Members with more than one (1) user name

Unread post by Hominidhunter » Thu Mar 22, 2018 6:50 pm

Tonight I replied to a post for the first time in ages, however, I feel that many of our regular contributors have been bullied into either disappearing or locking their threads. I’m not sure who some of the new guys are and in some respect agree with their point of view, but, I now feel that this chat site has gone from fantastic to dramatic and feels more like a show like desperate housewives of the junjadi , or something like that, Dave, please don’t leave, same goes for you to Russ, we need you’re input, it encourages others to do the same (research) we don’t need to lose any more. I always have a photo of myself as my emoji , time the rest of us did as well, as some of the conversations going on sounds like the same person arguing with themselves, or the one person with 2 user names bulling one contributor.

I'd have to agree with you there. Compared to some, I haven't been on here long (2012), but I've seen this site go up & down, people come & go.
At times, a while back, it was quite vibrant discussion.

There was a couple of weirdos that deserved to go, but some I feel where hounded out because they provided a different point of view. Some good longtime contributors just never come back. Maybe they visit but don't comment anymore.

I see things & pictures & think "As if!", but I don't say anything. People don't like being told or pointed out that they're incorrect.

It's very easy to read & Interpret the way things are typed sometimes & take offence, even if it's not meant.

But yeah, some people absolutely give to other contributors because they don't agree or take offence. Which makes them never post again or come back.

Hominidhunter, is a move from fantastic to realistic, a bad thing?

If anything, this forum needs a good enema.
As for new members, you're a new member yourself?

Myself, Wolf, and Dion each have photos of ourselves. I'm not sure where you're going with this insistence of selfies for our avatars? Would you prefer we all used our real names and used photos of our drivers licences as our avatars?

Hi Black, since the reboot of the old site , I’m listed as a new member, but iv been around for a couple of years, i just don’t comment or post much, but you clearly love the sound of you’re own voice, so what are you, have you seen one, do you want to or are you just another piss taker that wants to belittle anyone in this group that finds solice in like minded people that may help, or did you just take your user name from the best pearl jam song ever,

Hominidhunter, if you think I'm wolf and Dion, no wonder you're upset a couple of members who liked to post videos, are leaving. You'll have nothing now to satisfy your overactive imagination.

What's your definition of bullying and belittling? Pointing out a few oversights in a video?

Like minded people that may help do what? Feed each others furtile imaginations or occasionally come back down to earth from the clouds?

For what it's worth, I've known Dion here on AYR for many, many years, and his writing style and verbal delivery are not the same as Black's, in my opinion.
I also doubt Black and Wolf are one and the same for the same reasons.

And to my way of thinking, there is nothing wrong with robust discussion, especially in the Off Topic section - if both debaters keep a cool head, it can be a wonderful thing to witness, providing new points of view and knowledge. It's when things turn to personal attacks that people's feathers get ruffled, and it's also worth noting that someone's perception of conversational content and intent will vary from someone else's, and that's why those little emoticons were devised when this internet business took off in the early 90's. To aid in understanding the mood behind the words. For lack of a smiley icon, many a sentence has been taken the wrong way, and massive arguments and misunderstandings have resulted in offence and people flouncing off out of forums when there was no need for it.

Making accusations is different from making observations, and what anyone posts is their own opinion, which also varies from person to person, naturally.

Taking offence if someone defends themself only impacts you and your perceptions, but it can also rile others up. I'm always mindful of the time-worn but so very very wise saying "If you can't say something nice, don't say it at all", or if you can't resist, at least phrase your words carefully, to get your point of view across, but without seeming to skewer your online opponent with a different view.

And last of all, if you make a statement, prepare for others to call you to provide proof or evidence - this is why it's so important to understand how others reason and think, and it's part and parcel of any adult conversation. Having said that, AYR is not a place where a lot of proof may be evident, given the nature of the cryptids we are interested in, so that may not be possible.

Another valuable thing to remember is, if you wouldn't speak to another person face to face as you do online, or continue the general pleasantries of human interaction as if you were speaking to the person/s first hand, then you're going to have a hard time convincing anyone you are nothing but argumentative and looking to cause drama.

Please - use the emoticons to the right of your POST A REPLY screen - they aren't just stupid things for teenagers to use, they serve a valuable function in a forum where personal face to face interactions are not possible.

Well said Shazz

There is nothing wrong with new members coming on here and sharing their thoughts, if old members wish to have time away from the forum thats there business, we all have a free will to do as we please. I dont particularly like to see old members walk away from the forum either but everyone needs some time to evaluate their thoughts and mindset when it comes to this phenomenon.

Some members after many years of putting in the hard yards, time, money and effort come to a conclusion that there is something to this mystery that suggests that they might not be a Flesh and Blood creatures after all, that takes time for the mind to comprehend, evaluate and accept.

There are some members that do disappear and create new accounts either because they forgot their password or they wish to be known as as another member for whatever reason, again thats there business.

Life would be pretty boring if everyone was the same.

I applaud anyone that can keep a researcher honest, if there is something that needs to be said in regards to a researchers photo or video and just not be accepted as being evidence then by all means speak up. The old "if you have nothing positive to say then dont say it at all" works on some things but not all, If I had accepted every photo or video of a Yowie that was put before me I would have a very big collection of circled pareidolia blurry pictures, and a big red face  a bit of healthy scepticism doesn't go astray in this phenomenon.

And if some of the old times do get offended at healthy scepticism or a debate, then they need to harden up a bit we are dealing not only with a very elusive creature but also many many different personalties researching them.

Hi Dion and Shazzoir, thank-you both for your well thought out, insightful, and mature posts. You both raise some really great points, your experience here is evident, and are both a credit to this forum. (thumb up)

I believe AYR in general strives for a high standard, and asking critical questions helps maintain that standard.

Now, while there may be some genuine new members, after the site reboot, there seems to be a number of old members back with new names, who are not new members at all. You're right Dion, people do forget passwords, especially if using the automatic log in feature. Maybe there is a technical problem with members resetting passwords?
