2. Pine Creek rd Hinze Dam walked up a creek felt like i was being watched. couple of weird noises
3. Kholo Stumers rd luv this road. last Friday night i drove through there stopped every 100 meters turned the car off & listen for a bit then move on. got right to the end of that rd, the weir end, could hear what sounded like foot steps over the car running. didn't sound like hopping it sounded like someone was walking. turned car off heard a couple more like 1 or 2 steps. got out with torch nothing. but it sounded like down the road a bit there was more noises but sounded more like sticks braking like something heavy walking on them & coming towards me. then it was time to leave lol. Rang my daughter asked her if she would come back with me lol. so i went home picked her came back no noises now, but we could hear dogs barking not sure if they are local dogs in the area but there a signs up about wild dogs.

No I have not seen anything. Have looked plenty of times but a needle in a haystack comes to mind -
Heard one - 99% sure I have.
Bendalong NSW South Coast 1993 - pushing down trees in the middle of the night. Witnessed by 3 others at the time.
had a few cases where I felt someone watching me and 'the dread' and was not actually thinking of Yowies so that was strange....

Mate I've deliberately moved interstate, from Sydney to Tivoli north Ipswich after a couple of years hard study on everything I could lay my hands on concerning these Cryptids. I Mapped everything in order to put myself in the best possible position, based on that data, so that I could nail one of these things on a good HDD camera.

Been at it every day full time now since getting here in Jan 2017. Given that routine I've caught them very briefly on camera, inadvertently ( only seen when I review the recordings) quite a few times but never a money shot. I have to really squeeze the pixels hard in the still shots from footage just so that I can attempt to give people an impression of what they look like. I get labeled a lot as pushing pareidolia or random image matrixing off as yowies. That used to bother me a bit considering the effort all the post filming work I put into this...but I'm ok with that now because I'm dialing it all in and I KNOW i'ts just a matter of time before I get the HDD footage of them.

I go into the field on foot and alone every day to film and to reconasainse an area so that I can come back to the same spot after midnight, again alone and film the same area as the day trip. So far I know several spots where they like to habituate in really hot weather pretty regularly. I know the regions (but not yet the exact spots) where they retreat to in cooler weather. I'm sure that Deanne and Ron know where I'm referring to.

These creatures are so bloody environmentally well adapted its like searching for the invisible man on a clear day. I'm an ex grunt of ten years and comfortable in the bush but I understand 300 percent (which is an impossible percentage anyway) why they are considered as mythological to the general public and academics as well as hard nosed critics.

Have I seen one? Let me put it this way matey.....

Hey BigFootYowie
I'm the same as you I haven't seen one as yet.
1. On my first ever expedition in the Dwellingup area here in WA. My sons and I decided to go for a drive and have a look. We tried some wood knocks and my eldest son heard a knock off in the distance, we repeated knocking to rule out echo by knocking twice and heard a single knock in reply.
2. My family and I went for a hike along the King Jarrah Trail in the Dwellingup area again. I'd heard some mumbling like people talking just out of earshot. We stopped for a rest when my wife noticed the bush was completely silent. We waited for awhile to see if someone was walking up the track but no one else was around. Once the mumbling stopped the bush noise started again.
3. My youngest son and I went camping in the Avon Valley National Park. We waited until after dark to go for a walk, when returning to our campsite we walked back down the wrong track as we approached an overgrown area of the track we began to turn back when behind a large thicket of parrot bush around 10-15m away came what sounded like 'stamp stamp and slap on the tree'

Keep searching mate I'm sure we'll be lucky enough to have a visual sighting!

Cheers Slats

Howdy :)

Haven't seen anything which could be construed (or even misconstrued) as a BF/Y. But I'll qualify that by saying I've never looked for them (an important consideration), despite a lifetime of hiking and camping in wilderness areas, and despite actually living in a wilderness area .. and despite night hiking at least 4 times a week. I still don't really look for them, even though I'm now 'aware' of the possibility of their existence. I actually only became aware a couple of months ago, so it's all new.

In an aside, the most interesting and challenging thing I've yet read or heard on this topic, was the following. It was in response to an American skeptic who said "I've never seen a BF, and I'm in the forest all the time". The response was "they've seen you". That had me (eek) - not in fear, but in a philosophical sense. What a simple yet laser-accurate reduction of the whole pallaver down to its core truth .. assuming these creatures exist.

I've never seen or heard one. I don't know anyone outside this forum who claims to have done so.

I do think they're out there, simply because people with nothing to gain keep reporting that they've seen these things. People have had some frightening encounters and have no reason to lie about it. We don't know everything we think we know about nature in general, uch less what's going on in the wilderness areas of this country (or any country on earth, for that matter).

To dismiss all the witness testimony and physical evidence (such as it is) would be arrogant, in my view. History shows us numerous examples of supposedly 'impossible' things being achieved or learned (heavier than air flight, reaching the summit of Mount Everest, the existence of the Gorilla).

The people who are out there with cameras and other recording equipment in the bush are doing a great job. It's only a matter of time before more is learned, and the amount of evidence reaches 'critical mass' so that the reality of these animals becomes more widely accepted and understood.

This is the single most convincing thing, for me. Knowing human nature as I do (well enough), most of us are very reluctant to leap to 'unusual' conclusions when we experience something 'unusual'. We WANT a simple explanation. Something known and therefore reassuring. We don't want challenging new information, which may turn our lives upside down. We want predictability and pattern. These are what hold our minds together, as it were.

So when an otherwise oblivious (to BF/Y) person reluctantly reports an encounter, there can only be three explanations: a) it is what it is, b) they've been hoaxed, or c) mis-identification. All of which are the result of the honesty and innocence of the inadvertent observer. If the person has zero reason to conclude BF/Y, they are 'innocent' of the potential for confirmation bias. That adds considerable weight to such reports, IMO. Even though there is only a one in three chance they're correct, one in three is HUGE in comparison to the infinite potential of confirmation bias.

It also comes back to the question of subterfuge. In reality, 'acting' such things is well beyond the thespian abilities of the average person. Even actors struggle with creating genuine reactions. Coupled with a reasonable grasp of the markers for deceit, and it's easy to spot the real McCoy. There aren't a lot of them, but there are enough to demand further investigation.

Those are all good points.

The idea that everyone who's seen one of these things has either been hoaxed or is mistaken or lying seems statistically impossible.

There are reports about these things going back into antiquity, more recent reports from people who've never heard of Yowies, and reports by people who'd previously discounted the existence of Yowies (until they encountered one). The weight of statistics, if nothing else, makes the possibility of a large unidentified animal living in the wilderness seem just as likely as not.

I don't see why people would bother to make it up when they stand to be ridiculed for it. People who report to AYR do so anonymously for that very reason. They're not getting anything out of it, just relating an experience to others.

Whilst I haven't seen one where I go I have heard vocalizations with a rock clacking reply ( about 50m away ), I have heard
distant vocalizations inc some where I had my totally non believer son with me and he came up blank as to what it was .
I have found very suspicious footprints including some ive been able to cast , all the prints I have found are exactly 35 cm long except one
Wood knocks , Tree breaks even branches with a 4 inch diameter woven between 3-4 trees
So whilst I haven't seen one I am 100 % positive they are there

Hi BigFootYowie & all.

First encounter
1 -Cross paths - The Yowie was off to the left [approx 75metres] in open paddock running to the nearest scrub line, caught in our hunting spotlight for at least 5 or 6 seconds, witnessed by 6 people around 10pm at night.
2- Size & color - best way to put it was - put Chewbacca in that spot & add at least one & half foot higher with body bulk to match.
3 - When/where - 1994 - Hunting property in the Coolabah district, N/W N.S.W. Middle of a 20,000 acre property & at least 30min drive to village.

Our hunting party was shocked to see it. We had never thought about the idea of them being out that way & some of the guy's didn't believe in them. We were at least 200km's to the west of the Pilliga!

While I don't go looking for them - I spend a lot of time 4wding, camping, fishing, hunting in the Oberon districts & can say without a doubt they are in certain sections there.

Regards,
Paul

Most interesting story, Paul!

Are you in the Oberon area a lot? Are you also of the opinion that they're more active in autumn/winter? And have you see any in or around Oberon?

Many questions, apologies (oops)

Exactly. I've basically taken the approach that actual sightings fall into one of the following categories:

a) hoax (which I believe probably accounts for far more than we'd like to imagine)
b) mis-identification
c) tall tales, blown out from a core of a real (though not Yowie) experience of some kind

and finally,

d) liars with an eye to propagating interest

Whatever is left is the real deal - probably less than 1%. But that's enough. Those few which are left are very difficult to dismiss.

Hi inthedark

The question you have about when are they more active? - From what I have experienced, anytime, but for some it may depend on where they are or the conditions. The encounter I had at Coolabah was January & another one was February [Turon River area].

My 4WD crew & I have found the areas N/E & S/E of Oberon active, an army service man that sometimes comes out with us hates the idea of any of us trying to entice a Yowie, I respect his opinions, he has told me about his military training days encounters & he says - don't worry about the Yowie you see - worry about the other 3 or 4 with it you don't see!

I see you have been a member here just a few months - you may like to go into the archives & search for a thread from 3 years ago called - Prints in the snow at Oberon.

Take care in the bush everyone, especially those who like to get off the beaten tracks!

Cheers,
Paul

Thanks so much for your response, Paul.

It does sound as though you're operating in an area with a significant history of sightings. Which makes sense, since there is so much great habitat for any creature, animal or human, who doesn't want to be seen! And of course, for an animal with a significant pelt ... the climate is ideal.

Will try to find that thread on the snow prints, meantime.

Cheers,
ITD

Hi Wookie :)

Can you tell us more? Where exactly is the location? What state, and where in that state?

Can you describe the animal in any more detail?

Cheers,

Kilcoy is in South East Queensland. There's a whole other thread on the kilcoy yowie statue. The town is famous for yowie sightings.

I've seen one at Kilkivan.

Thanks for that. Is it a forested area?
