before responding to Hominidhunters reply I took a look at his replies to other peoples topics on this forum. his comments were negative and unpleasant. he swears, accuses and and so on. I have seen others on this forum warned about swearing - why does Hominidhunter get away with it. I do not like this individuals behaviour and I won't tolerate it. so I will stop the nonsense before it starts. my response was well weighed up based on past observance of unnaceptable behaviour.

constructive criticism is one thing. however dumb unintelligent comments and trolling are another.

so a reminder for all. KEEP POSITIVE AND REMAIN ON TOPIC.

PS. if I have a tape measure on me I will use it - if not I will use the next best comparison object I can find. as I am out walking for relaxation and health maintenance I'm not exactly hunting. however if I do see something interesting to share I will take a picture. I only have my phone camera and will take as best picture I can.😊

easier to find trolls, then yowies.

it is absolutely clear now why yowies avoid getting close to humans. because they know better!!! research concluded.

all I see in the comments on this topic here is mindless unintelligent - blah blah blah.

armchair warriors with nothing else to do or say. with no topic relevant photos or new and interesting information to add to this forum.

I will post my interesting finds for the genuine people here on this forum. .. and with a bit of luck the "foes" will keep their comments to themselves and think before they type.

this footprint topic thread was looking good until the "foes'" wrecked it.

so how does one lock a topic?
And easier to find Snowflakes, than Trolls, it seems... (lol)
How does one lock a topic?, Well, it's a bit like "closing one's mind"...

As an old "Armchair Warrior", in future, if I see a post of yours, I'll refrain from commenting on it, OK?
I'm sure all your posts will be just brimming with interesting facts and full of never-before-seen photos of irrefutable evidence.
I'll leave all that positive commentary stuff to all the "interesting" people on the forum.
That way, I won't waste my time, and you won't run the risk of being (somehow) offended.

Yours,

I too see more than one print. A closer check could be carried out. Perhaps a search for similar tracks leading to, and away from this track.
If the ground was sloping the prints could appear larger due to the animal slipping in the mud. It was clearly soft ground when the print was made. Or if it was in a hurry to evade something it could have distorted the real shape of its print.
Its awfully silly to label others here as "foes". Its very similar to the children in early school years saying "I am not your friend anymore".
I don't see anything wrong with the comments from your "foes".
As we are each others critics, we must be prepared to take comments from all angles.
You have an interesting picture of an unknown footprint, or footprints.

we should be critiquing in all circumstances the "echo chamber for mindless approval" is a good way at describing the negative side where everything just gets accepted, ask the hard questions folks or else we will get nowhere.
It can sometimes feel a bit like the 'overly keen' don't really want this thing teased out, given the determination to cling to what are effectively obfuscations. I do think all footprints etc should be considered, but if it's plainly apparent that there's an error in conclusion, the researcher needs to forget it and move on. But then, if they're unable to do so we learn something useful about the nature of their interest in this field.

... terribly sorry... you seem to have mistaken me for someone who would give a (steamer) .

The point is, this 'field' cops far more than its share of hoaxers, attention-seekers, and genuine serious sufferers of various mental conditions (as any time on forums such as this will indicate).

It also is NOT made up of 'real' scientists with the necessary scientific training to add ANY credibility to the 'field'.

Most of us out of necessity apply Occam's Razor and the Devil's Advocate position in order to try and give this field of endeavour at least SOME credibility.

In fact EVERY serious 'researcher' SHOULD apply these same principles to EVERY bit of 'evidence' they find. To do otherwise is to risk damaging the field even further.

Some of those 'armchair warriors' you mention have probably been 'in the field' since before you were born.
If you come up with something you believe may be credible, here is the best place to post it. Then you know you will get some very intelligent, experienced people trying to debunk it (if they can). By trying to debunk evidence (finding possible other causes for the reported phenomenon, whether it be a game cam shot, sound recording of footsteps, or a footprint) is the ONLY way to remove other non-Yowie possibilities and thus conclude the 'evidence' has any credibility.

The 'armchair warriors' know from experience that 'not everything is Bigfoot'.

They also know that it is far too easy to take the mindset that every little tree break, cockatoo bite into a tree, rock stack, and wallaby thump IS the hairy bloke... that is the path to even more public ridicule and further disparagement of this field.

(cheers)
Well said!

ITD. for someone who doesn't give a "(kiss)" . you sure have a lot to say. if someone didn't give a "(kiss)" they wouldn't take the time of day to make a comment - two at that. I officially feel more stupid now than before I joined this forum for spending valuable minutes of my life which I will never get back reading "(kiss)" comments.

With respect, if you're not comfortable having your "finds" discussed, it's probably better not to post them and then invite conjecture.

Might be a good idea to decide whether you actually want the opinions of others, and with it the support of this community, or whether you'd be more comfortable flying solo.

Hi all, a middle aged newbie here.
I don't recognise the print and it could be a number of prints overlapping, as some had mentioned.
There is a book called "tracks and stats" or similar to that which has some really good info regarding track identification.

IMAG0263~2.jpg

FOOTPRINT

PHOTOGRAPHED AT:

LOCATION: Toowoomba, Great Dividing Range, South East Queensland.

POSTCODE: 4352.

DAY & DATE: Saturday, July 7th 2018.

TIME: 5.22pm

WEATHER CONDITION: Overcast with occasional light showers of rain. Previous day - same weather conditions.

LANDFORM: Steep mountains & Scarps, frequent sandstone rock outcrops & stoney areas along the mountain ridge top.

SOIL TYPE: Very shallow light compacted clay between stretches of sandstone.

FOOTPRINT MEASUREMENTS:
Heal to Toe: 16 inches, or 40 centimeters.
Width: at widest point across - 6.2 inches,
or 15.5 centimeters.
In my opinion there are two overlapping footprints (based on the position of the visible toe prints and the fact that there are two heel prints in that image). I'm not able to identify if they're from the same foot or a left and a right foot as the toe impressions are indistinct. The cigarette lighter gives us a fair idea of their size, which is considerable. It's possible that whatever made the prints changed direction mid-stride for some reason, causing the overlap. That's what the image suggests to me, anyway.

It's hard to make out how many toes there are - possibly due to the fact that it may have shifted its weight or changed direction mid-step. There seem to be at least four toes based on the image.

It's difficult to say any more as I'm not an anatomist or any kind of expert. I'm certainly not a tracker or bushman, and have no field research experience. You'd wonder why anyone would be barefoot in the wilderness, although that's not impossible. The sheer size of the prints, however, is what draws my attention.

It's impossible to say what it is or isn't - it's human shaped but extremely large. It looks like it was recently made when the photo was taken, so perhaps your presence caused whatever made the print to leave suddenly? That's just speculation on my part, though.

It's good that you included measurements and put the lighter there for comparison. I have size 11.5 feet and I put a similar lighter next to my own foot just now and it didn't look that tiny in comparison, so whatever made the track(s) had much larger feet than mine.

I did not understand that this forum was social media. I thought it was a factual information site. so I was not understanding why some people were horsing around. making jokes, etc. the whole time I was thinking that everyone should be serious on this forum and was getting annoyed with anyone who wasn't serious. this would be the only social media site I am currently using. it's OK, and I find the yowie topic very interesting. I like this forum. I will probably remain on the serious side myself however if others want to have an opinion, joke or whatever - so be it.

This is what a Wombat print looks like as I have just cast the front and back feet. Pictures and cast photos.

Assuming the measurements are correct, wouldn't it have to be a really massive wombat to have made the print(s) in missm4mi's original photo?

I'm no expert about wombat foot sizes, but 40 cm long and 15.5 cm wide indicates a fairly substantial animal. Do their feet get that big?

According to what I can find, the average weight for an adult wombat is around 26kg, so they could leave deep impressions (depending on the soil and the overall conditions). I can't find info about their actual foot measurements, though. As I say I have no experience as a tracker, so I'm genuinely asking about how large their feet can get. I have no idea.

there are no wombats in this region and the print has toes not claws.

and I'm certain the wombat did cause the obvious tree break (my other recent post) 3 metre's above ground level.

No one's having a go at you - I'm just asking questions, given that others have posted images of wombat prints with measurements, etc.

I'm convinced the print in your photo couldn't possibly be a wombat, but I genuinely don't know how large their feet get. I'm just asking questions I genuinely don't know the answers to. Lots of people on this board are highly experienced bushies...I'm not.

The tree breaks are a different topic. I've already stated an opinion on those in the other thread, but since this thread was about the photo of the footprint that's what I was referring to. I've already stated that I see toe prints in your photo, so I agree with you.
