'Booming' sound in Koombaloomba forest and Yowie location announcement theory
Hi Guys,
I just returned from a camping trip at Koombaloomba, where there has been a recent Yowie encounter which I am trying to tee up for an interview.
We camped at the mouth of the tully river about here: https://goo.gl/maps/RyAJqhx1kgGzPYME6
We were definitely looking for signs of Yowie about, and may have found quite a substantial structure in the forest with several logs rammed into the ground around a large fallen log, but the thing that stuck out the most were a series of loud 'booming' sounds which came out of the forest. These sounds appeared to happen at random times, and seemed to move throughout the forest during the day.
It was very hard to work out how far away it was, but I live 1.5km from a quarry and it was definitely closer than that. Several of us heard it very clearly three times before lunch time on the third day, and all remarked that it had moved through the forest and sounded like a boom, like a big piece of sheet metal landing on concrete... A big deep 'whooooof' sound about 1second in duration. We definitely felt the feeling of being looked at all throughout that day, and particularly around sundown.
I was then thinking a few people who in their encounters have described the Yowie's growl as an almost industrial deep and resonant sound, and extremely loud and was wondering whether the Yowies could be using this noise to announce to each other where they are in the forest? It clearly travels a very long way and would allow them to communicate across wide valleys and more. Or was it one of them telling us we had been seen? The communication aspect seems likely as they have such a huge chest with which to make that sound, and they frequently use 'infrasound' in their attacks on people...
I was speaking to Craig from Camping and Bushcraft adventures and he told me he has heard a similar thing several times, and I wanted to see if anyone else had heard it or had any ideas on what it could be?

Also if anyone has a recording of such a sound I would love to know. I'd be very interested to try playing it back at high volume in a known Yowie area to see if it elicits a response.

Sorry , never heard or recorded any "loud" booming noises .
I have recorded a very very quiet booming noise coming from an unknown subject near my recorder .

To clarify what i have heard in regards to 'booming' noises.
There has been 3 separate occasions where I have heard loud booming sounds. First time was six distinct booms/explosions, one after the other, in the dead of night. I was able to get the back end of the last one on camera. At the time, i assume gunshots - some drunk guy firing his pistol for fun.
Second time was a VERY loud explosion tpye sound. I assumed a gas bottle explosion at a campsite somewhere nearby.
Third time was similar to the second occasion and i assumed a gas bottle.
This is not to say im corect in my assumptions, they absolutely could have been something more unusual, definitely not ruling that out. I always tend to go with a rational explantion first. So i find this account very interesting and certainly leave the door open for this being something Yowie related. Im just yet to be convicned either way if honest. My mind remains open

Serious question: Can a "booming" sound ever be "quiet"?Rusty2 wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2020 5:05 pm Sorry , never heard or recorded any "loud" booming noises .

This was definitely something that was in the forest, moving around, was not a gunshot (very distinctly different, I likened it to a garage door slamming shut) and was quite loud and seems intended to travel a long distance...

Yowie Nakamato,
I have heard of the “booming” sound you mentioned a couple times on different forums.
What’s interesting is they used the exact same description of a “large sheet of metal” making the noise.
Maybe some sort of geological event could be responsible but it seems like a very specific sound.
Anyway, it’s interesting to hear it from another source.
Thanks for sharing.
Iwanna.

Come to think of it , I actually have recorded booms . Intermittent booms from a gas gun in an orchid 11 kilometres away .
It sounded like quiet distant booms , not sure how else I can describe it .gregvalentine wrote: Mon Sep 07, 2020 11:37 pm Serious question: Can a "booming" sound ever be "quiet"?

Holy c**p this description is so apt....
I keep trying to remember it. Like the lid of a sewer being dropped.

It was like a violent sound of metal hitting metal. Similar to a hammer hitting a frying pan. Needless to say we were spooked. Such a loud unnatural sound so deep in the jungle. There was no explanation.

Sounds like underground access holes opening and closing in different locations around you.Could be an entrance/exit to one of the alleged U.S military bases here in Australia.

@iwanttobelieve: Thanks for the link to this thread! We've had several of the unidentified booms (diffused/in distance), one explosion (probably a meth lab exploding! LOL!), two sonic booms which shook the house (those were identified.) Also, my neighbor's tractor tire exploded, unexpectedly loud true explosion! Yeah, sheet metal type noises. Metallic, no doubt about it. Stan Courtney has a very good website on sounds, possibly Sasquatch mimicking lawn mowers, trimmers, etc. The sounds that happened here were BIG, definitely noticeable. I can't ask my neighbor the farmer because he is often away in other fields.
I would like to know if anyone else has heard such things in connection to Sasquatch/Yowie activity.
