Min min light stories
Hi all,
Just thought I would put out a couple of stories I have heard about min min lghts in the pilliga scrub area.
1. Some time in the early 80s a lady and her two children were travelling o a road through the scrub known as the western way somewhere near the woolybah junction they ran into car trouble and came to a holt on the side of the road. They had fallen asleep the lady awoke a couple of hours later to what she thought were car lights approaching, but the light was coming from out of the bush not down the road it came through the trees and rolled over the car bonnet she described it to be as large as a 200 ltr drum and to be bright like fire it then proceeded to disapear through the trees on the other side.
2. A stockman I know was out checking boundary fences on horse back and came across a cow birthing and having trouble so he stopped to pull the calf, time went by and night fell by the time he had headed for home. He noticed what he thought were car head lights headed for him. He claims that there was no noise the lights came sttaight at him then split either side of him then joined back up and continued down the road and disappeared.
Thes are a couple of stand outs, it seems there are many sightings in this area anyone else heard of anything similar?

I'm surprised that no one has started a thread with discussion on this. I never heard of such a thing, not in Texas in any case, and I have no idea what these lights could have been. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has had or heard of such an experience.

Ella;
It's lovely to see you visiting again Ma'am! I see from your repsonse to the min min lights that you haven't heard of Marfa.... http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/onli ... cles/lxm01. It's another night-light mystery a bit closer to home for you.
Cheers

Yeah for sure these stories of Min-Min lights have littered my childhood. With many friends and family being interstate truckers, stories would always come up in conversations either being followed or paralleled while driving. Along with many other odd out-back tales to tell.

Mucho thankoes, Nopolys. I am going to have to Google the Marfa lights, as I had only vaguely heard of them. I'm dying to know just what this type of light could be. I have heard of some strange lights in the Big Thicket that were suggested to be gas of some sort.

Re: Min min light stories
Where: Ghost Hill (Main Street), Hervey Bay QLD Aust
When: 26th Dec 2012 (just after boxing day) apprx. 12.45am
After a night visiting friends, driving home my partner and I took a shortcut over Ghost Hill heading back towards Maryborough. Before descending the hill we both saw bright lights (assuming they were 4wd spotlights) in the distance facing us. This hill has 2 dips at the bottom with 3 peaks (including the top) then goes flat with a cross road about 150m from the last peak (Chapel Rd). It has cane fields on all sides but at the time it was all freshly cut. Speed limit is 100kmph.
After going down the 1st dip and approaching the 2nd peak, we could still see the bright lights which were becoming blinding and closer. Going down the 2nd dip, we could notice lights at the top of the 3rd peak and about no more than 30m from approaching the top the lights disappeared. We had assumed they had turned off their high-beams/spotlights but there was no car in sight. We however could see faint red tailgate lights in the far distance heading in the same direction as us but no high-beams/spotlights in front of them.
Both of us stayed silent as we thought there was an explanation however could not find any signs of a vehicle driving towards us. We still had not spoke as we approached the cross road expecting a car down either road but again, no signs of high-beams or tailgate lights. After passing the cross road looking up ahead, noticed the tailgate lights had disappeared - we assumed the vehicle was about 1km ahead of us according to Google maps after investigating later. Also means the vehicle would've done a REALLY quick 3 point turn and had foot to floor in a high powered vehicle.
It was at this point my partner said, "did you find that weird?". I replied "yes" but continued to stay silent as my logic was trying to comprehend the event. No signs of dust with a car turning, no signs of other cars in all directions, and no lights on in the surrounding houses (not many in that area). Partner and I couldn't figure out any possible explanation after discussing it briefly in the car and again once arriving home.
Would love to hear a logical response and please feel free to look at Google Maps & street view.

Re: Min min light stories
Recently I saw a show called 'Aliens and Indians' on NITV, and there was one report form a Native American guy out hunting caribou who saw something which resembled the min min lights. He was a guy in his early 60's, and was embarrassed to talk about what he'd seen. One tribal elder, though, mentioned that there were many old stories about orbs and strange lights in that area going back many generations. It was interesting.
It could be something like ball lightning/St. Elmo's fire - an atmospheric discharge, influenced by magnetic fields and so on.

Indians and Aliens on NITV really is a good show - it's interesting to see a different context for all these types of reports. It's the only show I look up on "SBS On Demand" if I miss it.

Apparently my Grandfather has seen the Min Min light's in the Min Min area. May try to interview him about his experience.

Re: Min min light stories
ok - so these are the stories and they are fascinating...
But lets discuss what people think these might be.
Here are my thoughts.
If they are lights traveling down highways or bush tracks etc...they must be following roads as a guide.
They seem to travel close to the road or ground.
They are 9/10 times lights of varying colours and very bright like headlights in a car that can be extinguished at will.
They are silent.
They appear in various locations.
Sounds like either UFO's or Spirit Lights. I am leaning towards UFO's. There are many reports of UFO's behaving this way in other parts of the world. They seem to have intelligence...follow roads as guidance. Interested in cars and their occupants. Have the ability to divide into separate entities. Travel in groups.
Anyone else want to weigh in on what they might be?

Interesting phenomena, witnessed by many over last two centuries said follow people and appear to move with purpose eg coming close to people then moving away when they are approached.Reported by stockmen checking fences they float along the fence line.Witnessed by a lot of people these extraordinary lights are still being seen to this day. Many theories from methane/phosphorous to bioluminous algae, ghost orbs, fireflies and Ball lightning to name a few.Varying in size from golfball to basketball. My two cents.

Re: Min min light stories
I have seen these orbs that fit the description of the min min lights and they behaved much like Chris described. They were moving along in the bush some distance away, beside our car and travelled in an angle towards us and eventually crossed right in front of us as we drove along the newell hwy. They then bobbled off away into the bush on the other side of the road.
I saw them very well from the passengers side .They were brightly illuminated like round light bulbs bobbing along in the air, unattached to each other. They seemed to be independent of each other but grouped closely together.
I thought they were bicycle reflectors at first and when they crossed my mate said " they must be them fckn min min lights!"
Thats how i know they were min min lights..
I dont know what they are. Im inclined to think theyre spirit lights or some entity like they say but possible theyre alien craft also i suppose. Wouldve got a great look at us. There was a massive lightning storm much later that night but far away from there so ball lightning or another form of lightning is another more likely possibility maybe?
