Hi all,
I'm a long time reader of the forum on and off over a number of years now, First time post though. I would like to share a couple of Yowie encounters that happened in the early and late eighties as I believe any and all information about the Yowie is important and if not recorded, the information would be lost to time. I learned from both respondents, A reluctance on their part to divulge greater detail about their encounters, So I'll try and pass on details to the best of my ability.
The first encounter happened to a family member, and from what was described to me it was frightening. The encounter took place around 1981/82 when the family member and two friends went camping at a remote camp ground deep in the East Gippsland forrests of Victoria, The family member didn't say which NP or area they were in when I was told of this encounter.
They had a camp fire blazing with the tents setup and cars parked close by, During the night while they were sitting around the camp fire they heard what sounded like small twigs being broken and the rustling of dead leaves on the ground as though someone was stepping on them, They naturally thought it was a Wallaby moving around or Possum getting close to the camp and didn't think much of it, So one of them picked up a small length timber that was to be used as firewood and threw in direction the noises were coming, Moments later according my family member, A small branch from a tree or shrub was thrown back at them from bushes and landed next to the camp fire which really shook the three up, They couldn't make sense and were uneasy about it, As the night was getting colder my family member went to the car to get their jumper on, The back window of the car was rolled down, So the family member bent over and reached in the back window to the seat to grab the jumper, As the family member reached in they looked up the opposite car window to see two large red eyes and big hairy creature looking at them from the other side if the car.
As you can imagine, they believed they outstayed their welcome and promptly packed up and high tailed home. The details above are the only information the family was willing to share.
Second encounter happened to the father of the kids that my kids went to school with, I had to pick up my kids from their friends home and I got to talking to the kids parents about two UFO sightings I've had when the kids mother asked the husband to tell me about what he saw in the forrests of SW Western Australia, He said it happened in the 1970's when he was about 17 years old. He said the forrests over there at the time were pretty thick, He saw this massive creature about 8ft tall(to use his words) 'that was powering threw the scrub at speed' and as it moved the creature was just pushing over trees like they were nothing and it didn't go around anything, it just powered straight threw.
This was the only details he was willing to divulge and I didn't push it any further because him when he said that it scared the living daylights out of him.
The other piece of information I'd like to share is about the smaller Yowie, the ones that are around 4 ft tall, In VIC and NSW the small ones are known as Dooligaals/Dooligaa, However from my people in central QLD we know them as Yoongi's (the spelling is the only way I can spell the word) Dad always told me Yoongi's are reluctant to interact with human adults but they will interact with kids to the point they will get the kids in to trouble to the point of leading them astray. If the Yoongi reveals itself to an adult in the family, We know it usually means there has been a death,,I* know this has happened after hearing some of my uncles and auntie talk about a Yoongi visiting them.
I hope you all can get something out of the information I've shared, if anything its now recorded in written format rather than oral.
cheers Ron

Thanks for those stories and information.
Funny that you should talk about the Dooligaals in such manner (as being the smaller types) as some indigenous tribes think of Dooligals as the larger of the two, and junidee to be the smaller of them. I guess every tribe has there different interpretations and names for them.
Again thanks for sharing its always good to hear about indigenous perspectives and knowledge.

Ive spoken to an indigenous bloke who is well learned on the subject. His land was around Kingaroy Qld and he calls the little ones Junjarri and the large ones "tall man". Tall man being adult human size and up.
Im also sure there a very tiny ones as well but cant prove that unfortunately.
He also said the little ones ( junjarri) like to play with children and not so freindly with adults and are both physical and spiritual beings.
I have heard and read "Tall man" before a few times. I mentioned it to a few experienced researchers and they had never heard the term " Tall man".
Its different all around the country.
