Ancient artefact?

Unread post by Karlyseidl » Fri Aug 26, 2022 5:40 pm

Hi all,
Found in Central QLD. I am an amateur (for the love of it) prospector and unearthed this stone 20cm deep. Very peculiar shape and composition. At first I thought it was ironstone but now believe it to be silicate based. From my research it bears resemblance to ancient American artefacts, indigenous Australians didn't carve angular shapes like this (I am prepared to stand corrected). There are several seemingly hand carved striations on the top and bottom sides of the stone.

Hi Karlyseidl

Welcome to the forums, that looks like an interesting find it certainly seems out of place to me but I am no expert, you must be happy you found it however. I am not sure there is anyone on the forum that could help you getting an answer? Australia is an old place you never know who may have traveled here or lived here long ago? As this is mainly a Yowie forum with oddities to it, you may get better luck if you contact a professional from a University etc they may be able to give you a better understanding as to what you may have.

I hope you find an answer and keep us posted as to what you find out.

Hello Karly
Maybe you could get in contact with Evan Strong.
Him and his son Steven are right into Australian ancient alternative history and stone artifacts.
Please keep us in the loop, I'm interested to see where it leads.
The more I learn, the less I know.

Hi Dion,
Thanks for your thoughts and yep, please move to where ever you need to. Thankyou Bluedog, I have contacted Evan and Steven Strong and a few other groups. No answers yet .
I just figured that we yowie lovers are usually finders too, and it may be of interest or that somebody may know something.
Cheers !

Hi Karlyseidl

Central Qld my home area, but not for years. Can you tell me which part of CQ? Just area, etc - e.g., near Mackay or Rocky etc. If you believe in Pseudo-Archeology, then there were some potential ancient activity near Sarina, etc. It is a strange looking object, almost like a key of some description. I also agree with you that it doesn't look indigenous. Hard to tell from the photo, but do you think it has been broken? For instance, does one part look snapped off?

Also, don't forget that it could have been brought to Australia by someone - gold miners, returned soldiers, etc. Was that the only object you found?

I would definitely like to here if you get some professional feedback on the object.

Hey Rowbe,
Found at the Gemfields, could possibly be broken at the lower end beneath the last step and smoothed by time. I didn't find anything else in the area that I know of but it was dug from an ancient riverbed. I found it in my sieve when washing sapphire bearing dirt, not sure exactly how deep it lay in the soil so it's plausible it was high up and therefore, could have been brought in by gold miners etc.
I did think it could be a key also! Or an item of trade, even a piece of artwork.

Thanks for your thoughts especially on Pseudo Archeology, more food for thought.

Hi
The other thing I thought of if it was a mining area it could have been left/made by Chinese miners and may not be indigenous. Not sure re history of gemfields or is chinese or even other cultures dug there. I know they mined gold in other areas of CQ (near Rocky).
Could be anything but it is unusual and looks man made.

Sorry for another post but I forgot to mention. The reason I asked if it looked like part of it had broken off was that the object you found may have been part of something larger, etc.
Its amazing what you find in the ground, or resting against a tree in the bush (another story).
