Laser pointers for self defence

One of the reasons I haven't gone out looking for a Yowie by myself is the fear of being another "Missing 411" case.. The chances of even running into one is pretty slim, but I love and cherish my family too much to put them through the torment of losing a loved one like that.. Other than a firearm, does anyone know of any self defence methods for a pissed off Yowie?
Bigfooter/prospector, Bob Barrett from Texas, US swears a laser pointer once saved his life.
He pissed off a big boy in the Big Thicket one night, as it charged him his first reaction was to dazzle his eyes with the laser pointer on his goggles.. Needless to say, it stopped him in its 15 ft away which gave him and his son time to back off. From what I gather, theres a lot of aggro big foot in the Big Thicket, and this one was every bit of 9ft.
Its been probably been brought up already, but a laser pointer maybe a worth while investment..

I have read that a super powerful LED torch is considered a good way to dazzle anyone/anything and buy you time to back off if something big and hairy decides to go you... given that we think their night vision is immeasurably superior to ours, the effect on their ability to see for at least 30 seconds might come in handy...

Firstly i commend you for considering others before embarking, i have found comments on here a little disturbing when recommending using yourself as bait...
I spent a decade working with the australian sasr and a couple had encountered our hairy friend and they would never go bush alone again even in daylight, with a patrol was fine but never ask em to do a clearing patrol at first or last light lol, these were some of the hardest bastards you could ever meet both physically and psychologically, so theres no fucken way an attack victim would go back into the middle of nowhere alone, i know i wont...anymore..
Sorry off track, but i think the key to avoiding an attack from afar is eye contact...like most animals, thats why i am stunned most dont wear chest harness cameras, they shoot straight ahead even when ur heads down and arent half as shaky..but if u stumble on top of him i think ur fucked lol
I also think they are incredibly smart and receptive and if they know u are lookin he might wanna pay u back at night but if he thinks ur just out camping he might just snoop about as he doesnt feel threatened or vunerable...just a thought mate but i will definately get myself a laser pointer now lol

Since I wrote that post, I have gone out by myself but I have set boundaries I won't cross.
No night investigations, solo camps or searching in really isolated areas. Any strange missing persons cases in a particular area would ring alarm bells also, like humans they're probably creatures of habit..
Droughts or anything else that could create dire situations for local wildlife should also be considered,
Ill be doing most of my research during the Winter and early Spring, bush bashing in the heat ain't my thing. Summer and Autumn is better off left for fishing anyway.

Laser pointer or led torch may dazzle them or put them off a bit but most probably would infuriate them further and what about the others that could be around. Its said they travel in groups. If one is showing themselves then beware others could be there.

If someone has got away using a laser torch then the bigfoot has probably just let them run off and leave the area which would have been what the bigfoot were hoping to achieve in the first place by chasing the humans.

I wonder also, do they even need their eyes open to move around in the dark?
