Hey guys,
This is my first post here. I am interested in hunting for Yowie, but I don't know where to start when it comes to cameras and technology. I live in the Northern Rivers area and have heard that this area is one of the hotspots for sighings. I have a Cannon 5 50D and an EOS 6D (mark 1) with a Rode Video Mic. I am not sure what equipment is best and currently have no lighting for my cameras. I was hoping some of you guys could recommend some (hopefully cheap) equipment.
I've never hunted before so you guys are gonna have to help me through this!
Thanks

It is said that you don't find Yowie, Yowie finds you (if he wants to) . . .

Hello anonymousguy42,
If you want to camp out and go looking for these things that would be very dangerous indeed, especially alone, go with another person and be very careful. If you want to get close to these things than your best bet is you have to let them come to you. Firstly i would not start out using or playing around with cameras or recorders. You have to find a spot in the wilderness where you think they might be, camp out there to get used to the place and the surroundings and just keep going there hoping that they come in... that is exactly what i did and i encountered 2 of them, though i covered up the windows in the car prior so i did not see them, i only heard them.
I would not start feeding them because then they will expect food every time you (or anyone else) goes out there. If you stop feeding them then they will throw a fit. At the very least if you want to use food to help bring them in then only use fruit, meat or vegetables, DO NOT USE CANDY, HIGH SUGAR OR HIGHLY PROCESSED FOODS and do not place the food somewhere repeatedly as if it is a gift to them, just drop some food in the area randomly.
I would not go alone out there (I don't recommend it) I have not played around with cameras or recorders too much at all because i am trying to get these yowies use to my car and me before i start doing that. I take a lot of precautions when i go out there. Before i had my first encounter i would try and find a spot to hide a camera... don't do that, it's a waste of time, you can't out smart them like that. I have heard people establishing some kind of a relationship with them, if i get up to that stage i would probably try and hide a recorder and record their vocals, though i have not got up to that stage yet.
