I have often wondered why an enterprising young Australian producer (please not Baz Lurhman) has not had a go at tackling a fictional piece about the yowie?
We have a wonderful tradition of horror/thriller/scary movies like 'Picnic at Hanging Rock', 'Wolf Creek', 'Razorback', the recent giant croc movie (that I can't remember the name of), and so on. Even 'Walkabout' and the other Gulpilil movie (can't remember the name, Sydney wiped out by tidal wave, etc.) were somewhat disturbing and thought provoking.
Yet the yowie has never had a gurnsey in my memory. I'm sure a yowie flick would be a winner if some clever writer could weave a story around a melange of some of the better yowie reportings over the years.
I suppose the dismal attempts at bigfoot movies by Disney and poor documentaries etc. might make such a venture appear risky.
Personally I think a well written and well produced yowie movie would do some good in the search for the hairy bloke. Sure there would probably be a short-term rash of dic&-he@ds and red-necks but I think the yowie deserves a bit more profile. After all the yowie story has been part of the Australian landscape for many thousands of years.
Any thoughts?
Any takers for a yowie movie...

your right a movie that could have some key reports and storys might bring the yowie out in the open for all to see,
but there is a down fall and that is people might start heading out to the bush and hunt them.
but all in all is is a great idea.
cheers tim

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

What a great idea Opus, do you remember a movie by the name of "The Legend of Boggy Creek" ? It was about a group of researchers out in the swamps that suffer a night of hell STALKING by bigfoot (scared the C..P !! outa me), I reckon a good mix of Blair Witch style alah natural filming would be effective & low budget, and OZ does have all the gorgous scenery, would be great !
P.S I still have my copy of Razorback (Cool as well )
P.P.S I too would have concerns of drawing unwanted crowds of tossers into the bush- Dunno bout that.
