Mod Gods

Unread post by forestguy »

Hi All - I'm sure I'm not doing myself any favours, but I'm putting it out there anyway.

I've been a bit disappointed in the mods/admin team/ etc in the squabbles over the past week or so.

I know everyone decided Mike was wrong, but he wasn't as wrong as everyone seemed to suggest, and at least he was actually doing some mod work when moderating was required.

I know it looks better to have Mod in your title than just a little old contributor like me, but if you're not going to actually moderate then what's the point? There's well over a dozen people with mod status, and I've only ever seen 2 of those actually moderate.

Also, you guys have got your own secret squirrel forum - use it. You shouldn't be talking about each other on the public board, all that does is undermine you all as a whole, which benefits no-one.

Anyways, that's my say - feel free to give me a warning for showing the mods disrespect - in fact I'd be glad if you did... :P

...Tim... a good post and I agree with you my friend in regards the squabbling and such (thumb up) ... it did and always probably will at times get a bit heated between Admins and Mods... the simple fact is... we are not perfect and react and respond with passion and post before we think it out... just like anybody else will do... it's just an on the spur of the moment irrational and impulsive thing that people do I'm afraid... but after the last couple of weeks I'm sure that all of us have garnished some sort of insight on what NOT to do if it occurs again... a learning curve so to speak... I know that from my own lesson learned that perhaps getting involved with the churnings of quite volatile threads at times will make me think twice about how I react and respond next time (rad) ...

...to be honest... what with all the fracas that was happening at the time... I can sure as hell understand why Mike reacted the way he did... his passion for this website is unsurpassed when it comes to people bringing it down in any form... shape or manner... from my point of view at the time I saw banning people as a form of severe censorship that shouldn't have happened... I made that quite known at the time and criticised Mikes decision to do that... as it came to pass... Mike made it quite plain to me that it was his decision to do it and he is standing by that decision... in my dismay of his statement I posted a somewhat angry reply back and said that I would continue the discussion in the VIP section out of public view...

...and this is where I agree with you... it shouldn't have gotten this far... but it did... and no doubt will happen again one day... whether it is Mike or myself... who knows???... but it will happen again... that's just human nature I suppose... the fact that we are Admins or Mods means that we should be setting good examples on how to behave... that's true... but we are allowed to disagree just like everybody else does on the public forums... if we don't at times... I'm pretty sure that people will think that we don't have opinions at all... theres nothing wrong with open and robust debates within the forums no matter who is involved... it keeps the forums alive!...

...as it happened... when Mike and I went offline into the VIP section... both of us had calmed down... we both spoke our minds... (mostly very civilly)... and after comparing sections of what we were arguing about it came to light that we were both misunderstanding each others perceptions on certain subjects and sections... and from some of the reasons that Mike told me were the reasons for him banning people... I totally understand now why he did what he did... he did what he thought was best for the website at the time... and I commend him for that... whether it was right to do?... I think that is a moot point now... but as they say... live and learn eh??? (smart a**) ...

...as it came to be in times gone by...I was made a Moderator by Admins quite a while back... I was extremely chuffed about that I must say and pretty flattered by that too... the fact that I have not done much "Moderating" so to speak is because of the simple reason that I'm not to sure on exactly what that entails... when Cass informed me of my Mod status I asked her what that entails... she told me that she would teach me all about using the Moderator Control Panel and other whobewhatsits and whatnots of Moderating... unfortunately because she was always busy keeping this website running altogether... I was never fortunate enough to gain her knowledge!... my loss I'm afraid...

...I'm not game enough to twinkle around with the Moderator panel in case I make the website crash altogether!!!... my dad always taught me not to touch ANYTHING without knowing how to do it or what certain buttons were for otherwise he would throttle me for being so stupid for doing it anyway!!!... that being said... it prompts me to perhaps ask Chewy if he isn't busy one day that maybe he can talk me through the usage of the panels etc (uh uh) ...

...again Tim... another valid point made by yourself mate!!!... and in regards to giving you a warning?????... I will!!!... if the forums and website ever crashes for a few days... chances are... it was my fault because I didn't listen to my dad all those years ago!!!! (lol) ... (those buttons scare the hell out of me) (scared) (curse) (cries) !!!!... thanks for the post my friend and airing your views (rad) ... cheers... Stickyfingers. (cool) (happy) (jest)

I would like to add here that the frakus started with Deans original sensationalised irresponsible post. That was NOT done with the teams approval or with validation of fact from the audio recording.

In order to not have this happen in future I suggest that the expedition team approve of any post before its presented to the forum. I do not want to see a repeat of this heated rubbish because of the actions of a lone contributer.

It does not in any way help the credibility of the forum to have the general public witness infighting over the distortion of fact over the events.

Audio up soon...you will all understand my point of view after it when you have all examined the data available and commented on it. To me it's self explanitory.
