Expedition to West Tasmania

Hello, I've been thinking about trekking the rainforests of West Tasmania for evidence of Yowie or other creatures. The west coast has some very dense forests and a history of cannibalism so it should turn out to be an interesting trip.

Can someone please give me information on what evidence would suggest a possible yowie?

Hey Tyko,

Any good field trip should involve a proportion of research, and I reckon if you could do a search on Tassie newspapers from the last 200 years, and find reference to any untoward sightings of the big hairy guys and girls, then I'd focus on that area.

Any leads you might have with loggers or forestry workers could be followed up, though they may be tight-lipped not only for fear of ridicule, but because there is some speculation that the logging companies do NOT want any cryptids found in their logging areas, as this would mean an immediate 'cease and desist' order from the Govt to their activities, which equals loss of $$$$. I've heard some pretty out there stories about people who have opposed loggers for one reason or another, and I'm inclined to take some of them seriously.

But look at it this way - you might spot a Thylacine instead, so as far as I am concerned, you have twice the chances of seeing something interesting.

Oh, and ditch the deodorants and such if you do go out there - no point in smelling like strong soap, de-pong-erant or Lynx - I'm pretty sure they don't work on lady Yowies

Last week I returned from fishing at Arthurs Lake in the Central Highlands, whilst up there we watched a dvd called " The dying breed" about the decendants of the cannibal convict Pearce. After watching that we all decided we were'nt going up the West Coast way fishing anytime soon. Make sure you don't watch that film before going.
On yowies in Tassie, I've never seen any real convincing reports that would make me believe we have a population over here, I'd be more inclined to be looking for tiger sign.
If you're new to the Island State, take plenty of cold weather clothing cause its wet and cold up that way this time of the year, and watch out for the leeches.

There could well be some hominids hiding down there, from what ive gathered from texts and talkiing to folks over the years our hairy hominid friend is found pretty well right across this country, and lets face it..a yowie could be 10 ft in front of you in some parts of tassie and you wouldnt see it. I guess it also depends on how long ago access to the mainlaind was cut off, as for cannibalistic convicts..they'd be the least of my worries...the bloody leeaches in Tassie are huge and voracious blood sucking, nasty $#**^...&^**#....###@* things
