Kangaroo hanging around above Clyde River, NSW..
I couldn't copy and paste the piccy, so have provided a link to the site..
Could it have fallen into the river and ended up there after a flood...
...Or did something put it there..??

Re: Kangaroo hanging around above Clyde River, NSW..
I would say that a very dedicated fisherman has found the dead roo nearby, and put it here on purpose. As any good fisherman would know, dead animals mean maggots. Maggots are one of the best baits for many freshwater fish, and I reckon he knows this, and has put the roo there as a 'bait station'. Any bass in the area would be congregating around the area under this carcass, ready to pick up any maggots that drop to the water below (this is part of the fly life cycle, where the maggots drop and move towards a dark area usually under a leaf or in the very top part of the soil, to pupate).
Come back in two or three days time, cast out into the 'free falling food' zone, and WHAM! Hopefully, you have a nice Bass!

Oh well... at least the kangaroo went to a good use if that was the case... certainly fulfils the food cycle in more ways than one...Shazzoir:

Hi Dust Dog, and welcome to this awesome message board. I've learned lots about the Yowie and even our own North American Bigfoot, and I hope you'll enjoy being here.

Welcome aboard Dust Dog !
Maybe the Roo got caught up in the tree during a flood , you often see them come to a ghastly end when they get their back legs stuck in barbed wire fencing then it's open slather for feral dogs and pigs , kinda like TV dinner for ferals really !

Et tu, Al? Grosser than gross! That is absolutely ghastly. I don't know anything about Australian kangaroo protection, or even if it's possible, but how horrible! Isn't there some way to keep the poor creatures from getting stuck in bobwire fences? Are they particularly prone to that sort of ghastly death on account of the fact that they're hoppers rather than runners? In the USA, that kind of thing can happen to deer and calves once in a while, but not routinely, and then it's the coyotes mostly that get them, and in a few areas, wolves and cougars, and of course even packs of feral dogs. E-ew! Nature can be so cruel.

Hey Ella .
Yes they are prone due to their hopability but it is also due to the remoteness and lack of population in this island nation some of the stations or USA [ ranches ] are so huge that some of the fence lines are only checked and maintained once per year . there are many holdings that are 1,000,000 acres plus , who knows what exactly is out there ! .

Re: Kangaroo hanging around above Clyde River, NSW..
Wow, Al, you're right, I understand the Outback is a lot like far West Texas--very dry climate, much of it desert, and scarcely populated at all. There are huge ranches here in the Altiplano (Texas panhandle) and el Extremo Sur toward the Rio Grande valley--I'm sure you've heard of the famous King and Goodnight ranches. The Outback is very beautiful in the pictures I've seen.
I learn something new every day here. In Australia, stations are ranches, bonnets are hoods of cars and trucks, etc. There are more equivalents, I just don't recall them right this minute. And oh yes, Yowies are Bigfoots, LOL, but of course with some differences. And kangaroos are just roos. Poor old roos!
Checked Google for Brendan Fevola, and it sounds to me like he could use Alcoholics Anonymous. Is there any AA in Australia? He's the first Australian drunkard that I ever heard of. I assumed alcohol abuse was mostly a phenomenon of the Americas.

Ella I am fairly sure that Australians drink more beer per capita than anywhere else in the world , I know i have a drinking problem , I only have 2 hands and 1 mouth !
I know of a farmer that traps wild birds by soaking seed in rum , it is just a simple process of picking them up once they have become subdued , I wonder if a similar process might work upon Yowies / Bigfoot ! oohh a scarey thought , drunken hominids roaving around the bush , just like a friday night at the local really ! ..

ROTFL!!!!!
Two hands and one mouth! The solution, Al, is to drink it through a straw. Take two drinks, put a straw in each, insert both straws into your mouth, suck it up, and presto! Your drinking problem is solved. You can now get drunk twice as fast.

I am sure our Bundy Rum OP would knock even the biggest hairy beast for a loop as it's a kind of no smoking while your drinking type of alcohol and if Yowies had underwear by the end of the night they would surely end up on their heads .
It is the next best thing to petrol / gas , I don't know if you can get it in the states Ella but look out for the squareish bottle with a picture of a polar bear on it ps: consume with caution it is likely to bring on a bout of infidelity ! .

Al, I looked up Bundaberg rum on Google and it sounds about like "petrol", LOL! So it must be real strong! Unfortunately, any kind of alcoholic beverage makes me sick at my stomach so I avoid all of them. In my lost youth, I loved dark draft beer from a barrel, and also a pink liqueur from Italy called Campari mixed with sparkling water--best taste in the world! I had never heard of your Bundy rum before, so probably it's not available here unless you can get it at specialty stores.
As for a bout of infidelity, at age 70 and terminally single, I'd rather have a colostomy than mess around with some nappy old geezer. Besides, I'm on a fixed income ("pensioner") and can't afford to buy the Viagra for such an old fool anyway.
I still say you could drink dark draft beer through a straw and get just as drunk, it would just take somewhat longer!

Re: Kangaroo hanging around above Clyde River, NSW..
Very excellent... thanks for the hellos... I was wondering which was the best way to sneak in, and then sneak out again. You know, me being a Lurker and all that. I'm the lucky one who gets the pleasant job of driving the rotten drunks home, especially when the cops are sniffing about. I can't ever imagine drinking a beer through a straw... boggles the brain...
Yup... it is the remoteness in some cases, which can cause animals and birds, when they get into strife, sadly suffer a slow tortured agonising death. But there are also some crappy people about. There are a couple of incidents which affected me badly. One was on the Hill End to Mudgee Road when I sort of lived part time for bit. Early one morning about 5am, a tourist fancy 4 wheel drive blazed past me and yup, I could see in the distance, ended up hitting a kangaroo, but never stopped or went back for a look. I truttle along soon after in my not so fancy ute and what I saw horrified me to no end...
The poor kangaroo was managled with twisted limbs in the strangest of angles I have ever seen. No open wounds. And I've seen more than my share of roadkill. I stared at it and caught it's eyes and they looked so shocked and pleading... hard to describe, just horrible.
The kangaroo had no hope. Lucky for me, because otherwise I would have had to finish the job off myself, a local put the poor animal out of it's agony with his, 'I forgot to register it' shotgun... When you travel you take responsibilty for what you hit or for what runs into you, not scram away like that. Two other stories, but don't want to make Ella feel sick all in one go. Best I do it a bit at a time eh?

Shazz got it.
me brother puts a dead roo in a tree hangin over a nice patch of deep river.
people who hit animals should make sure the animal is dead, n not suffrin.
just last week i hit a medium wombat n it was pretty messed up...i went back n made sure it was not sufrin.

I agree with your principle of never letting any animal suffer that has been hit by a motor vehicle, but to always check to make sure the poor creature is dead.
