Just found out with the latest version of Google Earth you can record a "tour" and save it as a .kmz file (google earth overlay) and give it to other people to look at.
Maybe useful in regards to showing areas of interest in regards to activity?
Also.. just out of curiosity, would it be possible to imbed <html> tags into the forum? If so, you could use MapLibs (3rd party web application for Google Maps/Earth) to add an area, add in placemarkers, then on those placemarkers, you can add the basic info about the sighting, and a link to the report/forum thread. You'd basically take a snapshot with Google Earth/Maps, use MapLibs - then enter in all the specific details on the placemarkers & post it on the forum. If not, one of us could just make a MapLibs account and add links to the maps as we go along. Just some ideas to help people out/show people where they've been/show areas of interest.
Came across this when helping a friend make one for a gaming community. Could be very handy in helping others show general locations to have a look around.
