This is why we need cameras set up in that area... One day I will do this.We were visiting a family on a property near the Pilliga, and I just happened to mention my desire to camp in the area and asked if they knew any good spots. The family we were visting chorused "DON'T". When I asked why; they said, "there are things out there". What things ?, "Yowies", came the reply. We started to laugh when the room fell silent. They said, "we're not joking". According to the father and eldest son, they left the house around sunrise to do some fencing repair on the property and, as they alighted from the Landcruiser towards the rear of the vehicle they saw at a distance of 100m a large, hair covered creature cross the access road from right to left. Up until this sighting they were non-believers. This family were a humourless, no bs bunch. Listening and watching them recount the story, I have absolutely no doubt that they did see something. People ridiculed others for claiming they had seen panther sized cats in the bush. Then one was shot. From tip nose to tip tail 176cm, DNA showed it was a feral cat. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
