Very interesting Paul. Just an observation but I checked the National Museum of Australia Collections database for anything under 'carved stone' and I thought it was interesting. A lot of aboriginal artifacts have carvings including geometric patterns. From what I can see they are all unique patterns and crude images. Perhaps your stone is unique. Was it the whim of the carver or did it have a special purpose. That's the question

It is certainly a navigational object or mapstone. Beyond that I'm just speculating until some kind of forensic geologist looks at it and I wont hold my breath on that point in this country.

We can't even get the census website to work, or the NBN finished, or the education policy sorted, or the hospitals properly funded....so yeah, I reckon trying to get a straight answer out of mainstream science is going to be tough. Especially in this era of funding cuts and so on. They'll be more wary than ever about covering their professional backsides and I think they'll be unlikely to go too far out on a limb.

I found this interesting link -

Worth a read if you have some spare time. I found it interesting, and it links to a number of images from the AYR site as well.
I know it's stuff we've probably all read before. Just thought I'd post it for fun.

It's taken a bit of time but here are a couple of updates on the (now two) mystery objects I found whilst fossicking in the area.
The object I assumed was coal seep amber has turned out to be far more complex than I originaly thought.
After a mild dremmel treatment and a bunch of hours wet stoning to clean it up, I have to admit I'm stummped as to what it is....

The second object I have discussed here a few times. Turns out its black chert ,probably from Bitter Springs in the N.T
This raises a few interesting questions.
1) How did it get to where I found it and when?
2) How was black chert cut in such a refined and exact way? There are no signs that the markings were rubbed in with repeated passes, its more
apparent under HD imagery that the striations were single pass cuts into the chert....but with what?
As for the "Yuwie" relief carving on the reverse side of the rock, an even more complicated process....who knows?
I do have one theory and it relates to Aboriginal dot matrix paintings in some cases being a sort of topographical map of the artists ancestral tribal
grounds and knowledge accumulated during walkabout. With that in mid I took a look at some sat maps of Bitter Springs and got a possible BINGO
on the Ogam like markings on the rocks narrow side. (see images as they are not in the updated video yet, untill I get a few opinions).
I had a few other more speculative notions such as the markings being coordinates...interesting image on that idea below....
And here's the earlier video link detailing the "map stone/ yuwie stone"

Now call me crazy, but I couldn't help this last image comparison for a bit of fun.
