How did you become interested in Yowie?

for me it was when travelling through Kilcoy when my youngest family member (4 years) asked - what was that? - when passing the infamous yowie statue. I said a yowie - which youngest replied - owlie! - everyone in the car laughed. I realised I knew absolutely nothing about this creature and so my interest began.

Mate at work asked me if i heard of the pilliga, then he played me a youtube video of bloked called Bongo.

as a kid growing up I had a passing interest in the general subject of cryptids including bigfoot. would always stop to watch any of the monster quest type hows.

years go by and I become an avid fisherman and outdoor type. then one day while with my friend I was up in the southern sierra mountains of California setting up at a fishing pond when we heard what we believe we're sasquatch screams heading our way. first starting from a distance and then getting closer towards our location. we packed up in a hurry and left.

have had a interest in the creatures since then. I spend several months a year in south Burnett area of qld and my interest has transferred over to the yowie.

My interest was sparked back in 1990 whilst camping at the Nowra bike farm.
Heard some unearthly screams at night coming from the hills above the camp ground and awoke to find that the esky had been raided of cheese and leftover meat from the previous evenings BBQ.
Those screams were not the work of a sexually frustrated Koala either Lol .
Additionally the improvement of the Internet and the discovery of AYR and the many similar reports have started an interest that at times due to normal life commitments is not always at the forefront of my thinking albeit it is always there .

I grew up running wild in the bush on my parents' couple hundred acre Santa Gertrudis stud nestled in a high valley just outside Toowoomba.

Mum was a field naturalist and most weekends when I wasn't mucking about somewhere in the surrounding hills I was hiking or camping in National Parks all over the state.

My love and understanding for animals extended from domesticated stock on the farm (cattle, horses, dogs, pigs, chooks, geese, goats, etc) to all native critters as well.

Although neither of my parents believed in Yowies the idea of their existence fascinated me and I kept my mind open to the possibility. As an adult I lived all over the eastern seaboard in various bush environments and shared my love for the bush with my soul mate. And as an adult, if anything my thoughts regarding the possibility of a hominid cousin living stealthily on the edges of human civilisation only increased as the 'adults' I used to respect proved themselves more and more to be as ignorant and as arrogant in 'modern' concepts of what could be possible as I imagined Victorian Britons to have been.

I knew I could survive indefinitely on the fringes of society undetected if I had the benefit of a natural ghillie suit, natural protection from the cold and rain, and the ability to see at night so I began to look more deeply into the possibility.

Part of my interest was my lifelong interest in natural history and human evolution and when taking the many witness reports into consideration I came to understand there is more evidence 'they' exist than there is for 'God's' existence.

Then when I got a job driving for six to nine hours a night and discovered podcasts like Sasquatch Chronicles I was able to listen to hundreds of hours of reports directly from witness' mouths. Today, even though I have never knowingly had an encounter, I am thoroughly convinced a not-so-distant relative has evolved naturally alongside humans and their technological evolutionary path and still largely remains hidden in the darkness.

Always while listening to accounts I place myself in the animals feet (so to speak) and felt the need to present their possible point of views so badly I wrote my novel and various short stories. As we get closer to disclosure I feel a need to present some assistance in providing some kind of understanding of these animals, so I write...

How did I become interested in Yowies? Good question… fairly easy answer. Since my teenage years, I have always had a keen interest in the unknown.
My fascination with the unexplained began when my grandfather introduced me to astronomy. The mysterious universe eventually provided a doorway to the allure of alien life and of course, UFO’s.

From there, I became absorbed in anything that was literally outside this world or highly strange within it. This included the subject of cryptozoology that contained reports of weird creatures including Yowies and Bigfoot.

Mainstream Australia is still blissfully unaware of the Yowie enigma. I was also very much ‘in the dark’ until around 8 years ago when I began to take notice of reports online. Some years later, this led me to the fascinating pages of AYR.

So now I am here with the rest of you, checking the site most days, living in hope to see some earth shattering, ground breaking and sensational news PROVING the Yowie’s existence beyond all reasonable doubt. I just want to be among the first to know if and when that finally happens!

Also, maybe just to say to friends and family…”I told you so!!”

Back in 1990/91 I heard something at Mt Glorious (account is in this site) and many years later heard a Sasquatch audio recording that instantly took me back to that moment as a 13/14 year old. Ever since I have been a crypto/paranormal fan.
I have been keen for confirmation of what I heard as it was a long time ago and if I’m lucky enough it will happen again.

I was listening to the most recent Outlaws podcast and Ye were talking about how today when they go out and do calls they very rarely get any genuine responses... but lots of other Finding Bigfoot fans calling back or tree knocking...

Very recently, I somehow got a Sasquatch sound recording in my YT recommended list late at night .. and decided to listen to it. I'm an absolute skeptic in all matter supernatural and cryptid, so thought it would be fun to try to identify what they were mis-hearing, or spot the fakery. Was mildly interesting, but nothing special otherwise. Figured it was probably a cougar or similar, vocalising threats to another male. Literally no sooner had I finished listening to it, than I heard something spookily similar within perhaps half a km of my house. I live right on the edge of a vast forested area, which has no roads or human activity other than hikers etc, so you know ... we do hear stuff. This was unique, though. Didn't sound like fox or dingo, and it wasn't human or koala. Moving on, about 20 minutes after I heard the sound, a chopper turned up and was circling the general area with a spotlight. It continued for 15 or so minutes, left, and was immediately replaced (I heard them cross paths) by another, and so on. This continued for hours. It went on the next day .. all day, then continued for almost 3 weeks. Very very bizarre. I've lived here for many years, and have never seen, nor heard of, this kind of chopper activity.

Granted it could well have been some kind of large cat, as such critters are also wildly rumoured to exist in Australia. Either way, it was a strange old business.
