We have had a TV production company contact us offering free DNA testing for an upcoming show on Cryptids.
If anyone has something they feel certain about, it could be a way to avoid the cost.

Re: DNA
Interesting to know how they (the TV program people or the analysts they employ) propose to classify any results.
If a "type specimen" is not available and some donated sample yields DNA that is not able to be matched to any reference samples, then how will the results be interpreted? It will be easy to say the sample contains DNA that is "NOT human", or "NOT chimpanzee", or "NOT kangaroo" and so on. But it will not be possible to state "this DNA is from a Yowie".
IMO.

Re: DNA
Definitely not shooting the messenger, but contamination control is another important aspect. It's important during collection, but correct washings of the sample hair by the lab (ie do they have a procedure/protocol for this) is importantly to rule out human interference.
So when they come back with 80% homo sapiens, contamination can be ruled out
