UFO Swoops Police Car

Unread post by Rusty2 »

Does anyone remember this national news headline from the late 70's or ealry 80's .

UFO Swoops Police Car , a channel nine national news headline . They were using graphics showing a ufo a swooping the police car .
There was a ufo flap in Victoria at the time , the sightings went on for four or five days but I can't find anything about it anywhere . I emailed Bill Chalker twice but got no response .
My father and I had an early morning sighting at the same time and my school friend who lived in the vicinity , his dogs freaked and crawled up under the house and they couldnt figure out why .

Sorry Rusty, can't help you with that one.
I was in my early teens then and living in Plimmerton, NZ.
Was all about Rugby and Cricket back then.!

Rusty… I do have some vague recollections of that encounter. I was a VUFORS member at the time and I still have a pile of their newsletter reports in booklet form. I’ll check when I get some time!

Welly, you would have been in NZ at the time of the famous 1978 Kaikoura orbs sighting. The mysterious lights were filmed by a NZ cameraman with a name you just can’t forget… Davey Crockett! I have spoken about this case with the journalist Quentin Fogarty who was there on the aircraft when the filming took place and also the Channel 0 News Editor who sent him there. The News Editor is a close friend and I have discussed this sighting at length with him.

Thanks for the feedback wellymon !

Thanks Searcher , it was on the news for 3 or 4 days but there was that one headline that I'll never forget .
I remember watching the footage from that plane and one of the images taken off the film showing an infinity type sprial loop which is obviously impossible from any conventional aircraft .

You have an excellent memory, Rusty! I was fortunate enough to have access to that footage and I recall projecting, freezing and studying the frame showing the spiral loop. That single frame represents just 1/25th of a second on the 16mm film. Camera speed was at 25 frames per second. IMHO and also the TV Station's Chief Cameraman, the strange frame was the simple result of an extremely small but sudden camera movement while focused on the fixed object. Just my two bobs worth... :)

Well there you go , milking the story just a little ?

I put my ufo lightning photo in the local paper and never ever once mentioned the word alien but the reporter said suggested I thought it was an alien spacecraft lol .

Very interesting Searcher, I do remember that, but was a little tacker of ten years old and UFO's used to scare me;)
You are very knowledgable man Searcher, thank you, I now understand (respekt)

Hi Alex , below are 2 videos .

The Bendigo UFO Wave 1983 which was the same time as my sighting and , as Searcher has mentioned , the filming of a ufo from a New Zealand aircraft with included commentary from Dr Spock and cheesy music .

Thanks Rusty,

Great historical Oz UFO videos! In both the QUFORS and In Search Of programs, a lot of memories came flooding back for me. At least half a dozen old work colleagues were shown. The Valentich disappearance is extremely puzzling and I would rate it high among the world's best documented cases. The authorities still refuse to release the actual transcript of the full conversation between Valentich and the Control Tower.

I still have a strong memory of how I first learnt about the Valentich case. I had been working in the Ayres Rock area for about a week, got back to Alice Springs and jumped on a jet to head back to Melbourne. In those days there was no telephone communication in the Outback... so when I sat down in my seat, I asked the gentleman next to me "what's been happening in the world?" He reply was along the lines of "Not much... except a guy and his aircraft have been taken by a flying saucer down in Victoria". That certainly got me attention! Couldn't wait to get back to civilisation and check out all the details. (alien)

Yeah right , did you also work with Darren Curnoe ?

This is slightly off topic but relative to Australian UFO cases , as you mention , the Valentich case .

That's a sensational claim by the farmer! Had not heard that one before... thanks for posting.

Yeah, we're getting a little off topic from the "UFO swooping the police car". The UFO subject can be a bit like that... one thing leads so easily to another. :D

As the Valentich case is arguably Australia's most famous UFO incident, and a quick check shows no dedicated topic in the ET & UFO phenomena subject list, it would be a nice move to shift some of the above posts across to a new "Disappearance of Frederick Valentich" thread.

Your call, Mr Moderator! And no, I have not come across Darren Curnoe.

I'm sure you know a lot more about the case than I ever would Searcher . Why don't you start a new thread and we can transfer the linked video .
