That's good info, Rusty. I've put a note in my diary for Dec. 21.
Also, just a reminder the Geminids meteor shower will peak this coming Monday night.
No moon means the dark sky should provide a viewing treat for night owls or early risers.

The above conjunction reminds me of a picture I took back in 2008.
It was called the 'Smiley Face' and involved Jupiter, Venus and the Moon.

I distinctly remember that but never took a photo . It was near dark and we were still working .

Well, managed to sneak a peek at the Geminids shower last night.
Saw the end of the F 1 Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi. By that time it was almost 2 am and supposed to be peak viewing time.
Watched for the best part of an hour but saw only a dozen meteors at the most, although some were quite bright and looked spectacular. Skies were dark with not many clouds.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Saw the end of the F 1 Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi. By that time it was almost 2 am and supposed to be peak viewing time.

More astronomy news from today's Herald Sun. The article says the Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon show will begin this Thursday.
At around 8.30 pm, a little after sunset, you'll see a thin crescent moon and two bright objects right next to it, Jupiter and Saturn.
And hopefully at that very early hour, Rusty will still be wide awake!
