HAIR TESTING

I know most hair testing comes back as unidentified and closest is primate, but wanted to send of some samples anyway. I had several still with the tips on so only sent 2 away to a person called Harry Jenkins.He received them and never gave me his lab testing results nor did he send my samples back.( luckily i didnt send them all away.) I know Rusty you told me to hang on to them but am keen to see who else i can send some to. I did get a full book of different hair types on every animal but the proper machine is to expensive for me to buy to do it myself. Any ideas ????? Thanks in advance Dee

Sorry to hear about Harry . You may have inadvertently sent him vegetation samples . It happens , and some vegetation samples can look like hair samples , I've been tricked by them myself .

Apparently the Hair ID program Version 2 is now free . https://ecobyte.com.au/shop.html
This program is all you'll need to identify Australian hair samples . It walks you through various techniques about hair analysis .

Microscopes these days are cheap . The following link will help you see the different views at different powers (x400) for hair analysis .

You will also need a Vernier Calliper to measure the width of your hair sample .

Alternatively you could buy a "stage micrometre" . A piece of glass for your microscope . It has measured microns to determine the width of your hair sample .

I have had hair tested in Oregon and in New York Forensic laboratory with impressive results, all results came back as higher primate , no cut ends ,the correct medulla. The problem is when testing they cannot return hair samples as they are destroyed in the process of examination, so I alway keep a few.
All hairs I have collected come from bed/ nests that I have found
