Trail Cams

Hi all - just wondering if anyone here has any experience with trail cams and could offer any tips or suggestions? Worthwhile or not?

Hi there forest guy, i have been checking out the " Stealth Cam " brand, the most current models are selling in the US for about $150 - 200 US which is still cheaper than the less efficient models available in Aust, the ones in the states have the more effective nightime IR flash and has more megapixels, if you type in stealth cam on google it brings up several suppliers, i am in the process of aquring one for our forays up here in the top end.

on the subject of the trail cams, do other yowie-ologists out there think they are a good tool in the search, or are we going overboard?. i personally have purchased one from the US, ended up costing me $60AU plus postage, still cheaper than any supplier here in Oz, i opted for the less technical model with the normal flash, my only hope is that if a yowie gets annoyed by the flash he/she may turn it into spare parts, anyway i'm fairly keen to give a road test, if others have used them i would be glad to hear your opinion.

just wondering how this would work for daytime.

cover up the flash with tape set up your camera a day b4 you go into an area then annoy the hell out the them with banging etc then walk back past your camera/camera's and see who is following you :-) once you go back and retrieve your cameras

The flash is only activated at night, day time the flash does not operate. i could have opted for the more effective IR model, but it is very expensive..$400 plus, $500 in Oz. we here in the lovely topend will most likely set up some attractants ie; bacon, snags etc near a used animal trail close to fresh water ( hopefully avoiding any giant geckos/crocs ), up here evrything travels to fresh water regularily, will let you all know how we go

Hey forest guy

i have road tested it at home, works well, it took several pictures overnight and day, it even snapped a piccie of a dove coming in to land i the yard from a distance of 20 meters, i am about to tested on BIGGER HAIRIER targets in the next couple of weeks , my self and "iwantobelieve" are trying to head out to several places of interest.
On another subject i have just returned from working in Katherine NT, on the way back i stopped at aplace called Grove Hill ( really really old tin shed type pub ) to talk to a chap who had some info for me, turns out that up the road is a small caravan park nestled next to a large rugged gorge ( it is an isolated place , check it out on Google Maps ), he said that people are complaining of something coming around their vans at night, heavy thuds of footsteps, a bad smell and moving peoples camping equiptment around, also bin lids being removed ( the bin lids have clips on them ), one chap went outside his van to see what was out there, saw nothing but said he got the " heeby jeebies" ( his words not mine )
So i talked with this chap about us coming to stay for a couple of nights and set up our camera's, so i will make sure we give a report on the Forum
