CRYPTO 'Meet & Greet' with Pixie

Two weeks ago I organised a 'meet & greet' lunch in the rainforest at one of my study locations in the northern NSW ranges with two very good friends of the AYR, Tony Healy and Gary Opit and also another very well travelled fellow Fred Heyer who has been very busy visiting Crypto researchers around the country and the globe ( lucky duck ).

now I wont dob them all in too much but lets just say..." what happens on the road STAYS on the road"...NO I'm just kidding. They were excellent company. After lunch and a massive chat It was time to play and so we all went scurrying through the native growth and creek beds like little children for the afternoon...Yay!

This is a photo of a stick tee-pee Gary found out there. Quite interesting.



He writes:

This is the best photo showing the full wheel rut full of footprints beside the stick teepee. The wheel rut on the other side of the stick tepee has no prints in it at all. There are about a dozen prints but they are all scuffed up as if they were running back & forth along the rut & running across it but only on one side of the stick tepee. Mud was scooped out with fingers but if you look closely at one of the photo you can see where a stick was pressed into the mud. Gary

So is that a hand print you have circled or a foot it’s a bit hard to see? Sounds like a little tacker having a bit of fun running up and down that wheel rut.

Any ideas on why they make tipi like structures? It sounds to me as though it was just a little one playing in the mud with a few sticks and the mother or father decided to teach the little tacker on how to build a tipi. Just a theory.

Gary Adds:

"The tepee is 29cm high at its apex where all the sticks are resting upon each other & extend around another 15cm higher. One forked stick 66cm long with an 18cm fork rests against another 4 sticks ranging from 75cm, 67cm, 62cm & all are about 2cm thick.

The footprints are human-like. Length of toes from a left foot & 2 right feet as follows.

Left foot; big toe & next 2 are 3 cm long, smallest toes are 2.5 & 2cm long. Widths are 2.2, 1.7, 1.3, 1.0 & 1.0 wide. 8cm across the widest part of the foot near the toes. Widest part of heel is 5cm, length of foot 19cm.

Right foot; big toe & next 2 are 3 cm long, smallest toes are 2.5 & 2cm long. Widths are 2.4, 1.4, 1.3, 1.1 & 1.1 wide. 7.5cm across the widest part of the foot near the toes.

Right foot; big toe & next 2 are 3 cm long, smallest toes are 2.5 & 2cm long. Widths are 3.0, 3.0, 1.5, 1.4 & 1.4 wide. 7.5cm across the widest part of the foot near the toes.

Footprints are 23cm from toes of first foot to heel of second foot &

& 43cm distance between heel of first foot to toes of second foot.

A larger set of toe prints from a left foot are in a patch of thrown mud are; big toe 4 cm long & 3.5 cm wide, next toe 6cm long & 3cm wide, next 3 toes are 4 cm long and 2.5cm wide except smallest toe is 1.75 long. Beside it is what looks like a hand print with 4 8cm long fingers & 6cm across".

It's true!
we are having all the fun ..I wont even try to lie about that but
there is only a very small, in fact tiny handful of us up here that are extremely spoilt ,
however I am originally from the great Gippsland region and am still very fond of my home state, particularly along the VIC-NSW boarder and the coasts,
can i add ( I'm whispering to you now) there would be a few 'fellows' up in the Wabonga, Baw Baw, Walhalla areas just to begine with that wouldn't be too bothered by some nice respectful visitors..(smile)

Yeah I know about that area went for a drive up there a couple of years back looking for evidence didn’t find much, still its fair drive for me to get out that way these days. Talking 3-4 hours drive. I have some other closer spots I go usually.

You guys just have to step out your back door literally, and you have them there on your doorstep. Wish that was the case here.

Here is a typical Tee-Pee that we found at our usual research campsite on Private property at Springbrook. The owner swears that it was impossible for anyone to get past him without his knowledge this day. It is also a location where we always found stick structures and hundreds of sticks in the ground where we camped, even in areas where there were no trees.



The interesting aspect of this, besides the fact that it was blocking our door, it was an exact replica of how we built our fires each night. Under, was rolled up bark, which is also how we lit our fires.



When we camped there, she would often come and watch. Quite often taking our bait right under our noses, then storming off through the bush in victory, swinging around each tree as she went, making as much noise as she could just to tease. I'm quite sure she was fully aware exactly what we were doing there.

I believe this was the night that we woke up outside with these footprints surrounding us in the mud.



This is the Yowie that now has a little one by her side.

I think I remember reading somewhere Dean that she left pine cones out for you one evening is this true or am I thinking of another case?

She exchanged pine cones for our 20 Mullets that we had as bait.

When we tried the same at Taree, he didn't appriciate our offering, and stomped them all flat into the ground.

Interesting how the "fireplace" was built up against the structure you guys were staying in.

Almost seems to suggest the Yowie wanted you to burn the place down.
