Your scoutguard camera has a PIR sensor. I have one too. Passive infrared is based on the same technology as thermal vision. Its a heat and motion sensor, not the same wavelength as other IR sensors.

Though the trail camera lights up like an IR christmas tree when triggered, until such a time, it can't be seen at all. So unless a Yowie can see PIR, which would be a skill developed far better than most night vision devices, it will be caught on camera. If it is triggered, its too late.

Other than that, the paranormal sensitivities come into play. I do think a PIR sensor camera is a good tool for investigation and may well provide the long anticipated visual evidence of the big fellas. Experience may prove me wrong, but I am up for that.

P.S. It all boils down to this. Unless a Yowie has thermal imaging ability or the paranormal sensitivities, it will be caught on this trail camera should it cross its path. Personally, I would like to go to a hotspot and test this out.

You mentioned sound gear earlier, I am at a loss as to what to hook my bionic ear into to record it. I would prefer a device that can run all night, not something we turn on after we hear a niose. Have you got any suggestions on a good quality digital recording device? (I have heard some horror stories about some devices) Or have you got anything to record on?

I have good sound editing programs so its not hard to find interesting noises in a 8 hour wave file.

The cable for the output is a 3.5mm TRS jack. The HD camcorder records it beautifully, but I would rather save those batteries for vision, so if you can think of anything I can do I would appreciate it Mikka. I am willing to spend about $300 on a device if you dont have anything that can be used.

The other option is more camcorder batteries but I would rather not be obsessed with checking battery levels every hour and a half - just want to plug it in, stick it on a tripod, leave it alone, and record everything.

YL1, I have a Mini disk recorder that I bought years ago, its perfect for the job as you just press record and forget about it for hours.

To be honest I dont know whats out in the market now, im sure their are units 100 times better than what ive got. I cant really recommend anything as I dont know whats available.

to where u were situated... I have a cam that has a setting for night shots, I have used it to great effect in capturing photo's
of badicoots at night on campin trips, it uses an ultra flash combined with the normal flash a 100th of a second apart when takin
the photo the results are unbelieveable, sony and canon are the only 1's I know that have this capability.... Anyway are u goin
