Hey SAB
RE: the annual meeting idea , what about Coonabarabran ? it is centrally located to the eastern states and has a rich history of activity , it could be good for the local economy to boot , just a passing thought at this stage but would be good to see it come to fruition .
The Coona thing yowie88 is just a little idea i was chucking around , I just think it would be Kool to all get together for a meeting once a year , with the usual things that events like this have such as work shops , talks by respected authorities on all things crypto and perhaps even a charity run BBQ , just a little idea that is all .
Sorry Al I think I confused you.... I have been commenting on the upcoming February weekend... I wasn`t referring to an annual meeting.
In regards to that idea.... well...I don`t like to sound like a party pooper Al but something like that would be incredibly difficult to organise..... and you have got to ask yourself is there a sufficient number of people who are that committed to go - not to mention financial costs. Definitely not a fan of having it at Coona. There seems to be a large amount of people on these forums who live closer to the coast so if your going to have a conference why not have it in Sydney??? That way people who are keen to go and who live interstate can fly in and get there relatively easy. Apparently there has been Crypto conferences in Oz before... in 2001 I think there may have been one.... but its success was questionable. If your keen on meeting up with like-minded people your probably better off to organise an outing here and there. I just don`t think there are enough interested and committed people to support an annual meeting. Also if your looking for a hotspot area to have it in than why not somewhere like the Blue Mountains... I personally regard this as the mecca for Mr. Yowie... even somewhere in south-east QLD!

I also wanted to comment seperately on the February weekend. I think the whole purpose is for people to go out to a localised area. That way we can get a number of localities covered. If we can get some decent numbers than this could be a really interesting experiment. I`m pretty sure this is the first time such a thing has ever been attempted!!!

SAB I was not thinking like a conference type of gathering , more along the lines of a big camp , the Blue Mountains would be an excellent venue perhaps we could utilise a local show ground and its associated facilitys , the logistics attached to something like this would be huge but worth the effort . i am not saying that we all go off tearing around the local scrub on mass just a gathering along the lines of a jamboree , it would require volunteers to make it a success , I for one would put my hand up . I feel confident that there would be more attendees than what you might anticipate all a bit of good clean fun , no burn outs , no topless girls
shucks and minimal alcohol consumption . As I have mentioned previously it is just a little twinge in the back of my mind but it does have some meritt .

In regards to the gathering.. perhaps organise it for the middle/end of the year? So people have time to plan ahead for it?
In regards to the proposal itself: anyone in the S.E Qld area thats wanting to head out I have a few ideas of where to go.. if interested, PM me & we can all organise it.
Either that, or each state starts its own thread and organises it in there instead, that way it would be easier to throw out ideas without constant PM'ing?

Come back with something interesting!
Also, when you're in NSW, if you get the chance, check out some spots around there!
Enjoy your trips!

The Daisy Plains - Kookaburra area is a very remote area west of Kempsey with a history of strange occurrences. Also, for another good area not so far off the beaten track try the Kumbatine National Park. This area is very close to the site of a well-documented January, 1995, yowie sighting. I`m always amazed at the density of the forests in certain sections of that park.... Amazonian-like!

I always get a very strange scared feeling in the NSW bushland so i dont think i'd like to do a trip by myself
On the other hand, Tasmanian bushland doesnt seem as strange so i'll do a solo tonight.
Wish Me Luck.

I have become sieged by the dreaded dog's disease [ the flu ] over the end of month weekend so I have spent the time in bed recovering and did not get out into the field , Iam keen to read any reports that you all may have . OH WELL ! there is always next weekend . Maybe DR Scream was correct in that the Yowies knew I was coming and telepathicaly infected me with the flu virus in oder to stifel my attempts at procuring good field evidence . Nature does appear to work in mysterious ways ..
