The loudness for instance and feel of the raw howl up close is not something someone would confuse with a dingo or wild dog.
If an experienced group that have heard dingo and wild dog howls many times before say its wasnt then its probably what they say it is...yowie.
Of course i understand thats not enough for everyone else and fair enough so but if we all had this advanced audio tech that can tell the difference and gigapixel cameras etc then we would have had our answers long ago. Like Trevor says, give it ten years or so , its only a matter of time.
Hi Yb. I agree with what you say about hearing it live, up close.
I always liked the late Ian Price’s description of what he heard.

Hi Dan, thanks for the location pic. I really hope your hard work pays of
and you get some more recordings.

Thinking of going over the creek and set up a trail camera for sometime and maybe sound recorders for a period of time. Other than a power supply how can I attach a battery to the sound recorder for non stop recording.

The bigger the powerpack the longer the power I would think. I run a sony notetaker with lithium batteries and a verbatim power pack. I get just over 7 days in warm weather. I haven't used it this winter but I'd expect much less in sub zero temperatures like I get here. Rusty might have a better idea on power extension for audio but I basically use his setup.

Thanks for the link Tuckeroo!
Always good to watch/ listen to Ians accounts. He describes the all encompassing fear and shock well. Id love to see someone tell him that his encounters were no more than anecdotal evidence!!
Yes hearing something from yourselves up close is a different thing altogether no matter what it is.
Personally i dont know if i can tell the difference between a wild dog and dingo howl. Ive heard dingos plenty of times as well as dogs howling. Im assuming wild dogs are still just plain dogs or do they change or something in the bush and howl differently? Beats me??
Anyway if the experienced group say they can tell then ill pay that. They were there to experience it.
Now if that was a full on territorial yowie roar then i doubt wed even be comparing it to willd dogs or dingoes! What a treat it would be to have a good quality roar to listen too!!

That's right Dave BUT I bought a larger capacity one and it turned itself off . I only collected 100 hours . The verbatim one you now have doesn't turn itself off .
Might be best just to wrap them up in something snug so they don't get drained from the cold .
