The centenary highway was roadkill central for awhile there when they developed the sugar glider forests at darra and 17 miles rocks. Seems they missed a few of those special Wallabys they "relocated"!
Now its the deer .Definetely wouldnt want to run into a deer on that road..or any for that matter!
Ive never seen one but am going to have a look at oxley common where someone saw one last week. I was working across the creek there a few weeks ago and a resident told me theyd been sighted across the creek from there. Not hard for them to swim across apparently.
One bloke nearly 6 years ago ( just after flood) said hed seen a stag run in front of him on the oxley rd roundabout from the floodplains, early one morning. Everyone was saying the poor bugger was full of it or on the piss!
Yes there are deer in the Royal National Park south of Sydney. Lots of reports of them in that area but many people state that its not the case!!
I think there is even one AYR report that talks of a Yowie stalking a herd of deer on a suburban street!!!
The one that lays next to the car and roars at the guy!!
Hilarious. Deer and a yowie in the one encounter and what a great one it was! People will argue anything. One lady tried to tell me king parrots are extinct which is a load of rot. I still see them in the burbs every now and then.
Yes thats the report I was referring to. Quite a good one and very interesting.
I've seen those King Parrots around also....
Been a different story if it was the ground parrot which has just been rediscovered not only in QLD but also WA!!

Thats great theyre protecting those ground parrots. Just goes to show how huge this country is. Still might be a few things we dont know about yet!
That royal national park encounter is so nutty. I just love that one. He copped the roar pretty bad by the sounds of it too!!

The presence of Deer also implies that the supposedly 'impossible' presence of ticks in Australia is another thing we need to think about. The medical authorities deny that there are ticks (for example) in Victoria, yet there are Deer farms here and feral Deer are present in the Grampians. If an animal can exist here then so can any parasites that live on it, and that were carried here over a hundred years ago with its ancestors, when quarantine laws were virtually nonexistent.

That article is from 2015, so it's hardly current, but I doubt things have changed much since it was published.
I often wonder just how 'scientific' some of these authorities really are.

That's a great photo, Shaz. Cheeky little buggers! Our apricot tree always ends up feeding the local bird population, so our tomato plants are usually safe.

Hi Shazzoir, There’s a few king parrots around where I live. About one for every 10,000 rainbow lorikeets.
There hard to get close to. They have that beautiful phthalo green colouring and the red is a bit crimson.
There my favourite aussie bird although they do come into your garden and pic at things.
They don’t seem to squawk like lorikeets but make a drawn out peep sound.
That looks like a nice stand of rosemary behind the Parrot.
I think I’ve pushed this thread even further away from its original topic, I can’t even remember what it was about.
Maybe we could have a fauna and flora thread in the off topic section such as you suggested with the books.
That was a good idea.
T.

I'm with Yowiebait on this one. The image is shockingly low-res, but I can see an upright sitting, glossy-black bird with a longish beak. Could be a crow or drongo, or any other black bird, it's just impossible to tell.

Simon, deer would definitely be a host for ticks, but there are so many native hosts too, such as numbats, echidnas, even snakes and lizards cop the ticks. The infuriating thing is that Australian medicine formally won't/hasn't yet recognized Lyme's Disease in this country, despite people having contracted it, and having to fly to the USA for diagnosis and treatment. >:( And yes, no stonefruit is safe from parrots, haha.
Tuckeroo, I will make a thread in Off Topic as you suggest - I would love to see people's images of wildlife!

I suspect there are native ticks also, Shaz - the medical authorities have just decided they're right, despite the reality of people contracting Lyme's disease (or Rickettsia).
