We could always go literal? For instance my last name McLeod translates as "Son of Ugly" which is quite true.
"Big small hairy sneaky stinky?"
Seriously though, how about Nomadic primate?

I quite prefer Bunyip doolagahl myself.

Re: A new name?
The Origines call them The Old Fellas or Old Ones... it would appear they at least recognise them as related and not apes.
I have seen plenty of docos consisting of camera crews being led into sacred ground. The old Origine showing the way ALWAYS stops and asks out loud for permission and explains why they are there.
Whitefellas think they are asking their ancestors, I think they may be asking the Old Ones.

Re: A new name?
Can you elaborate, the story behind it (if you didnt know) was of a woman who did a kind of ceremony to invite the nature spirits (fairy's) to her garden, a home where she resided at.Yowie bait wrote: Senses summoning bunyip thing doesnt work..i tried it!
I would imagine that a summoning or a ceremony would take a while to manifest? Never tried it myself.

I know nothing about the back story. Senses suggested to knock 2 pieces of granite together and yell " i summon all bunyip dooligals to appear before me" or something similar. I also invoked the name " Jesus christ" immediately after as one rock broke and cut my hand so maybe that cancelled it out.
The only thing that appeared was an old bloke on a nearby track who did a double take when i spotted him and shuffled off as fast as he could.
I only tried it as i said i would.
Not saying it doesn't work but feel free to give it a go. I dont look for " yowies" anymore.
As far as "summoning" things for "real" probably not a good idea imo. Much like these people that want anarchy. May not like what they end up with after all...

That's disappointing Yowie but it wasn't my number one choice. I'm a little puzzled as to why nobody has adopted the tried and tested with a 100% success rate - the bush seance. Wonder why that is?
IMO, whether unbeknown or not we are pursuing the supernatural here so if anyone really wants to find the abode of these creatures try it.
# Note of warning.........I personally wouldn't.

Nox Gigas “Night Giant” in Latin was coined by Richard L. Soule

Yes, that's quite a catchy name. I like it. But I'm going to keep using "Bush Ape" for everyday purposes.Wolf wrote:Nox Gigas “Night Giant” in Latin was coined by Richard L. Soule

I'm not sure of the rules or who actually makes the decisions on the Latin name. I think it it could be a group decision at scientific conferences but I admit I'm not sure. Linnean nomenclature was never my strong point during my undergraduate degree!
I do know that Latin names are sometimes changed as new evidence or species come to light.

At this stage as we don't know for certain if Yowies are either simian or humanoid
so how about the deliberately vague, interim scientific name of
ANTIQUORUM CONLIS HABITARE which translates to
"ANCIENT MOUNTAIN DWELLER"
Thus avoiding the debate of their genus completely and still sounding lofty?

Re: A new name?
Just saw in another thread a link to a facebook page where someone calls the little ones "Bunji Jinjudi".
Bunji is very similar to Bunyip, and Jinjudi very similar to Junjudee. Just thought I'd put it out there.
