Hey all,

As you might or might not know I have been conserntrating most of my time over the last few weeks up at Springbrook and the surounds with some very positive signs. :D

Ive get a recording of "something" that I was listening to for around 50 mins on and off ( Im trying to get it online atm so you all can hear bits and pieces of it :) )
Also ive heard tree knocks on a regular basis from this one place for a few night in a row (got one in the distance and a return knock alot closer to my position recorded also  )

Ive also organised a team to head up to Springy this weekend for a expedition/hunt :D

will let everyone know how it pans out :D

Cheers

I heard your recordings. Sounds interesting but too far away to make heads or tails of. Only had time to listen once at this stage.

Perhaps Alex is the man to play with that recording - he has some good tools to clean the recording up and bring out those howls.

hey dean,

Pity whatever it was was only in the distance :( and also no recording can ever reproduce the sounds heard at the time.

Alex has a few of the copys and im sure when he has the spare time, can cut out the cicadas and bring out the other sounds. :D

Cheers

P.S. If we are lucky enough this weekend might have some even clearer recodings

As mikka heard, i've cleaned up some of the sounds.. the one of "something" running away as the car goes past.. i isolated it to just the running, whatever it is, it's on 2 feet.

Having more trouble with the howls, as the cicadas are at a higher Hz than the rest of the sounds.. it'll take a bit of time, but, i'll have it done

Hopefully soon we'll have provision to add sounds and video to this site. Webslave are onto it.

Alex, regarding whatever it was 'running away' when the vehicle came past, that could have been anything. Sounded quite Roo to me, but I doubt anyone can be certain.

If you can clean up the vocals on the other track, I would like another listen to that and send it on to Gary Opit for his views.

hey all,

like I said in my first post ive got "SOMETHING" howling in the backround.

Im not saying it IS or IS NOT anything, I dont know what it was and because of the distance and outside noise makes it a little difficult.

Im totaly open to anyones opinion on what it was. :)

Alex is working on a few of the cuts I made and if anyone else knows anything about editing recordings, PM me and ill send you a copy.

I dont want anyone to get excited over an unknown at this stage :)

cheers

Mikka,

Above all, the most important thing is that you are making an effort and actually heading out with recording gear.

The more people actively in the field - the better.

Keep up the good work.

Have there been any recent expeditions by AYR or any other teams into Springbrook? if yes, what were the results?

Mikka,

Try some video around the winery, I was speaking to a past owner of it and he said some 'bush'man some times runs around his property.

Anymore details you know where to find me.
Tom.

First of all I want to thank Nigel, Jeannie and Darren for making their way down this neck of the woods. It was great to catch up again. :D

Here is basicly what we did and a few of the more noteable things we came across.

During the day light we desided to try a few differant areas and walk in on foot.

Of intrast, while nig, jeannie and me were decending down a valley, Hugging the tree line. We heard (and felt the vibrations through the ground) something very heavy (heavy enough for all three of us instantly looked at eacher as if to say - Did you hear and feel that too !!!-)take off from not 20 feet from our position deeper into the bush, then went to ground. We had a look in the area and come up with nothing. :!: :!:

Darren was cutting deeper inside the forest and came across a cleared out area, where all the trees and twigs were removed and almost kept clean.

After that we decided to head back up the hill and further along the trail and found a few smaller trails leading off it that were very hard to see from the road but once we got in a few meters they openedout a bit and were well used.
The only points of intrest were at a few of the big old logs covered in moss that had fallen over the track, Some of them had what looked like something had walked over them and as doing so had ripped a chunk of moss of roughly 6 inches wide and was really recent.

After dark we headed to a spot that I have heard tree knocks and a few weird sounds. Next to this clearing we found a old fire trail and heading in. Roughly 400 meters in we stoped and waited for darren to catch back up with us. When just on the hill above us something whistled once, Nig whistled back and a few seconds later it whistled again. We waited in the area for a good 10/15 minutes occationly whistling and tree banging and didnt get anything so we kept on going. The rest of the trail we heard a rough/gravly growl twice and in a few soots a few lil bumps and something in the bush but apart from that nothing much at all.

It was getting late so we desided to head back to the cars and along the way we stoped along a ridge to have a listen to the forest and darren took a walk along a edgeline of the forst and a paddock. he stoped at one point for a few minutes tree banging and whistling then moved further along. At the second spot he stoped at he got a reply from the first place he stoped at (which I heard as we were on top of a ridgeline looking down at his position. A little time later he radioed back that he could hear 2 "somethings" that were very careful and cunning sneaking around one above and below him. about 15 minuter passed and nothing rally else was heard to we continued back to the cars and called it a night.

The morning came and we just decided to head home and upon leaving we found a weird stick structure not 20 feet from where we sleapt that had not been their a few hrs ago :!: :!: And since we were up at daybreak something in the night had to of made it. :!: :!:

Also we discoved that the howling that I recorded more than likely came out from a deep vally and their was no way we could get into it from ourside, So im going to try and put some time in this area.

Some of the others have some pics and if they can im sure they will put them up. :)

Not an action packed time but enough to keep on working in the surounding areas.

Cheers

Glad to see someone doing Springbrook again.
I remember going there on a school camp in 1983. The staff at the camp told us of the yowies that visited there, though me being the big tough kid at the time thought they had all been smoking far too much of the green stuff because Yowies simply didn't exist.
I was in the very last cabin and the rest of the girls were all freaking out about a Yowie coming after dark, I was more concerned with the huntsman spider next to my bunk. Now I would love to be there again, minus the five other screaming 11 year olds that were with me at the time.
Staff told us that we'd know if a Yowie was around because its call would sound like a peacock. Well we heard peacocks that night, but I put it down to it just being peacocks....
who knows eh? might have been my first auditory yowie experience :D

Is there some 'magic' trick that lets you work out what is a peacock and what is a fake peacock? LOL! Its really funny isn't it.....I can just imagine a cabin full of 11 year old girls panicking whenever a bird opened its mouth just in case!

Hey Peta

Check out some of these sounds of peacocks, might give you an idea of what to look out for.

http://www.findsounds.com/ISAPI/search.dll

Last year I was up near the N.S.W, QLD border and heard ?a? something breaking branches in the valley below, I then heard what I thought was a bird call, similar to the local bush turkeys up that way, but a little different, a little deeper in its harmonics. It sounded out twice and then got a response in the preceding valley and that was the last I heard of the breaking of branches and the strange bird call. If it wasn?t for the breaking of sticks and branches I would have thought it to be a bird. It was only the velocity of the way the braches were broken that it convinced me that it was not!

Not saying it was the big fella, but I can say it wasn?t a bird!
