First of all I want to thank Nigel, Jeannie and Darren for making their way down this neck of the woods. It was great to catch up again.
Here is basicly what we did and a few of the more noteable things we came across.
During the day light we desided to try a few differant areas and walk in on foot.
Of intrast, while nig, jeannie and me were decending down a valley, Hugging the tree line. We heard (and felt the vibrations through the ground) something very heavy (heavy enough for all three of us instantly looked at eacher as if to say - Did you hear and feel that too !!!-)take off from not 20 feet from our position deeper into the bush, then went to ground. We had a look in the area and come up with nothing. :!: :!:
Darren was cutting deeper inside the forest and came across a cleared out area, where all the trees and twigs were removed and almost kept clean.
After that we decided to head back up the hill and further along the trail and found a few smaller trails leading off it that were very hard to see from the road but once we got in a few meters they openedout a bit and were well used.
The only points of intrest were at a few of the big old logs covered in moss that had fallen over the track, Some of them had what looked like something had walked over them and as doing so had ripped a chunk of moss of roughly 6 inches wide and was really recent.
After dark we headed to a spot that I have heard tree knocks and a few weird sounds. Next to this clearing we found a old fire trail and heading in. Roughly 400 meters in we stoped and waited for darren to catch back up with us. When just on the hill above us something whistled once, Nig whistled back and a few seconds later it whistled again. We waited in the area for a good 10/15 minutes occationly whistling and tree banging and didnt get anything so we kept on going. The rest of the trail we heard a rough/gravly growl twice and in a few soots a few lil bumps and something in the bush but apart from that nothing much at all.
It was getting late so we desided to head back to the cars and along the way we stoped along a ridge to have a listen to the forest and darren took a walk along a edgeline of the forst and a paddock. he stoped at one point for a few minutes tree banging and whistling then moved further along. At the second spot he stoped at he got a reply from the first place he stoped at (which I heard as we were on top of a ridgeline looking down at his position. A little time later he radioed back that he could hear 2 "somethings" that were very careful and cunning sneaking around one above and below him. about 15 minuter passed and nothing rally else was heard to we continued back to the cars and called it a night.
The morning came and we just decided to head home and upon leaving we found a weird stick structure not 20 feet from where we sleapt that had not been their a few hrs ago :!: :!: And since we were up at daybreak something in the night had to of made it. :!: :!:
Also we discoved that the howling that I recorded more than likely came out from a deep vally and their was no way we could get into it from ourside, So im going to try and put some time in this area.
Some of the others have some pics and if they can im sure they will put them up.
Not an action packed time but enough to keep on working in the surounding areas.
Cheers
