Yowies near Brisbane

Unread post by fredofrog »

Gday all, I remember reading somewhere about Yowies being heard or seen arond Blunder which is a Brisbane suburb, beyond Oxley, Durack and Inala. It is still very rural but has seen much development of late. Anyway the account I read was that the person in question had heard the Yowie as late as the late 1960's ??

My question is, how close to Brisbane has the Yowie been reported, either historically or in recent years ? I am guessing Dayboro,Samford, Mt Cootha, what about any closer in during Colonial times ?

Thanks
Macaroni

Mt. Cootha? That close?

Nah.. no way.
I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. Run. He's fuzzy. Get outta here.

I don't think so man. I'm not an expert, and don't know of all the sightings, but, as far as I can make out, the closest you'll get to Brissy is either the Gold Coast hinterlands, or Gympie/Kilcoy/Kilkivan.

There has been a report or 2 from around Mt. Mee, also a totally unconfirmed report from the Cashmere area a couple of years ago, I checked that one out but could find nothing to support it.

North / West Side:
Mt Glorious, Mt Nebo, Mt Mee (I remember a news paper article? about one there). As for Mt Cootha... if it?s linked to Brisbane Forest Park I don't see why not.

West side:
Ipswich ? (Dean you might remember a report some guy made on the forum about one on the other side of those big freeway fences?)

East side:
Back of Cleveland (Report from about 3yrs ago)

South side:
Windaroo / Mt Warren Park (personal one from 6 or 7 yrs ago)

Tom, could you give me some more details about the Cleveland sighting. Where abouts, what area it backs onto, how far said area goes for, etc.

If you guys think something might still be there, i'll head out that way & check it out.

Here is my report from when I sussed out the area:

Cleveland Sighting - Man sighted 2 red eyes and shape of large man looking at him from bush near a large tree

Visual Report:
Foliage Damage
Tree 'X' Markers - On trail, normally on the ground, 4 Sited.
Tree Markers - 2 off the ground. (Broken branch placed in fork of another tree - branch hasn't broken from above tree)
Faint foot prints - On soft ground.
Scratching tree - Paper bark tree warn out on one side to the height of 3m, gum tree with paper bark rubbed into it. (Scratching post - no hair found)
Hand marks - on many trees up rooted (Visual of bark broken on trunk possibly grip marks)

Environment:
Dense bush land, with many creeks, small saplings, clearings between bush land, some dumped cars, some rubbish thrown about.
Hilly/thick bush land to open bush land.

Expectations:
7-foot Hominid, maybe more then one.

Monitoring:
Clearings provide safety, Road near by.

That said, I believe it could be possible for a Yowie to be in the area, and get to the area through bush passages backing all the way to Daisy Hill / Verman parks.

If you need any other details then please PM me, (trying not to go off topic on this thread)

Yowies Near Brisbane

Unread post by Peta »

Speaking of the Brookfield area...

I first moved in to my current residence at Anstead/Bellbowrie in the spring of 2002. Late one night shortly after moving in I was standing out on the rear verandah when I heard a strange call coming from the direction of the State forest in Anstead (3-4kms away). The hairs on my neck stood up and I hightailed it inside as fast as I could once silence fell and told hubby that I'd just heard a Yowie.

Obviously I can't say it definatly was a Yowie, but having lived both in the country and the city in different areas of Qld, I can honestly say I have never heard anything that resembles what I heard that night, (including the Bigfoot/Yowie audio tracks available on the web).

Ok, rehashing an old topic, I have more to add to my last post here. Since previous post I have moved out closer to where I believe the original call came from and am now on the border of Mt Crosby and Kholo with Upper Brookfield over the other side of the mountain. The property to the rear of us recently bulldozed along their fence line to clear lantana etc. The following night a strange animal call was heard by myself and hubby echoing through the gully. Every dog in the area started barking and at first I figured it was probably a dingo. As the calls continued and due to the speed the animal was travelling I had to discount the dingo theory. To cut a long story short, I thought it sounded like a mountain lions screams and hubby thought it sounded like a strangled goose. We decided that it had to be a dingo as we know they are in the hills around here. However couple of nights ago, calls were heard again travelling through the gully. Even the neighbours came out this time with a torch to try and see what it was. Definatly is not a dingo, travels too fast and no dingo has ever made a sound like that, was almost bird like but how often do all the dogs in an area start carrying on about a bird call?
Anyways, just thought I would update and get some opinions.

Calls

Unread post by Jo Blose »

Hello Peta,

First I would suggest you tape record the calls you're hearing from the bush. Next, you could phone up a park ranger or expert in night time animal calls such as Gary Opit, and play the calls to such person to obtain a professional opinion. Failing that, I'm sure someone on this site could put you in contact with the right person.

As for Yowies close to Brisbane, on the Western front, there have been reports of such creatures near Laidley back in 2002.
