which outlets will the monster hunters be availiable at soon, i tried abc shop they dont have it on there pc not even for 2 months ahead, and niethr dose other places i looked at , a place called sanity says they sometimes sell amazon.com dvds and if i arsk them on the date its suposed to be released then they could try and order it in for me , hopefully. im a pensioner and i dont have a bank card to purchase from amazon.com and if its american owned then , then we may never see the site of this dvd in assie shops , the abc shop says they sell dvds even documentaries that have been shown on abc tv, so maybe we have to wait for it to come on abc if it ever dose , what a shame really i was looking forward to seeing the yowie hunters on dvd , and buying that dvd for my collection . everything good seems to be in america and not here , i dont have a single dvd on yowies not even bigfoot , they dont have them in this country
No worries Steven, I'm happy to help.
AYR T-shirts are one of those things sitting on the backburner. There is a yowie T-shirt that we had advertised on the website a while back, but I'm unsure if they're available still. I will check up on this and get back to you.
Cass
thankyou cass

Thanks for those links Smiter, I enjoyed watching that. (I do hope the people who uploaded that to YouTube had the copyright permission to do so!

)
However, the documentary in those links is a "Monster Quest" documentary about the Sasquatch (the North American beastie), and is not related to the "Monster Hunters" documentary mentioned above. (Leastwise I didn't see a young, Dean running around, nor any mention of the Yowie!

)
PS [EDIT: OI!!! Who's half inched me avatar?

Ah, the allowable avatar file size has been reduced apparently, (possibly for bandwidth reasons?) I shall shrink it to the required 19kb avatar size when I get the chance.

I believe it is aired on the Discovery channel. There was a funny post about the documentary about to be aired, with Dean objecting, saying that he had lost a lot of weight since then!
In any case, I dare say that the Yowie Hunters' videos are lots of fun, and deserving of the international attention!

Yay! My copy of this just arrived yesterday (less than two weeks since ordering it from Amazon). - I hope to get to watch it on the weekend and post my impressions.

I got around to watching it on the weekend.
Initially I was struck by the comment on the front cover: "ordinary people on an extraordinary mission", and it reminded me of a comment that I once saw attributed to novelist Ian Fleming regarding his James Bond character, he was meant to be "an ordinary man in extraordinary situations".
My first worries were overcome when it fired up ok in my DVD player (I was worried that there might be some region specificity).
For those who haven't seen the DVD, it's a documentary series featuring six different chapters, each lasting approximately 18 minutes. The first episode was about the "Jersey Devil", which I found interesting as I hadn't heard of it before (it seems to be a phenomenon localised to the pine barrens of New Jersey). There was some well detailed background to the story and I found it fascinating how many local businesses had identified theselves with the creature.
Interesting to note was a comment by one of the "hunters" (they were actually armed with cameras) that they are careful who else they take out with them on their expeditions these days. Apparently they once included a guy who was slightly crazy, which led to them worrying more about him than the devil! Also they wanted to be sure that all the team members had the same idea, ie they didn't want to finally find the thing and start quietly filming it, only to have someone else pull out a gun and shoot it. (Perhaps sage advice for those planning Yowie expeditions).
The next episode covered the "big cats in England" phenomena. What I found particularly interesting here was how convinced the local constabulary where of their existence, even to the point of being interviewed on camera. (I am not too sure Aussie police would be so bold in analogous situations!)
The third chapter covered the dreaded Peurto Rican menace, the Chupacabra. This was by far the most bizarre of the stories, with lots of dead chickens, the hunters tethering goats in the forest, then lying in wait with guns (these being the only "monster hunters" to be such armed on the DVD), links to a nearby US military base (possible genetic engineering experiments on the loose), UFOs and to top it all off, the SETI radio telescope, (which is also based on the island), where a couple of psychics had had visions of chupacabras climbing the wires!
The next chapter took us off the West coast of Canada, where people had been sighting a sea creature called the "Cadborosaurus" for years. Apparently it has a body like a serpent and a head shaped like that of a horse, but is otherwise inoffensive. There was a follow up of a possible cadborosaurus carcus that had been retrieved from the belly of a whale in the 1930s, and some camera traps were set, which managed to catch some inconclusive, but intriguing footage.
Then it was on to Australia, with the Yowie episode featuring Dean and his crew in military fatigues. The paramilitary look of the crew, combined with the narrator using the term "commandos", gave me the false impression that they were hunting the Yowie with weapons. Fortunately, an interview with Dean later on in the piece helped disabuse this notion. I also enjoyed the interviews with Neil and his neighbour(s) regarding "Fatfoot" (which can be read about elsewhere on this site).
Finally, it was down to Tasmania, where there were interviews with a couple of different people hunting for existence of the supposedly extinct Tasmanian Tiger (thylacine). I was interested in the comments from the Tiger hunters that they tended not to share information and were rather solitary (professionally guarding their own tricks). I could not help but wonder if a more co-operative approach where they pooled their resources and knowledge might bring about a better result.
A fair bit of time was also devoted to an interview with a scientist, Dr Mike Archer, director of the Australia Museum in Sydney talking about the possibility of cloning a thylacine from DNA from a preserved thylacine pup. The impression that I got from this interview was that it was something that would happen in the near future. Given that the documentary is copyright 2001, and I haven't heard any news about it since, I am guessing either the cloning experiment didn't go ahead, or if it did, it wasn't successful.
(Edit, I was just inspired to do a quick Google search, and it seems the project was dumped in 2005 as 'too hard'.
http://www.abc.net.au/science/news/stories/s1302459.htm
Archer had left the museum by then, but he hadn't given up hope, and the project was renewed in October 2005with US help.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/20 ... 480720.htm Has anyone heard anything since?)
The extras on the DVD consist of a small photo gallery of a couple of dozen images, including a shot of Dean shaving with his knife.
All in all, I found it an enjoyable documentary, (tempered with the inevitable frustration that comes from watching such documentaries of 'nothing conclusive' being discovered). If you enjoy crypto-zoological subject matter, then it is likely you will enjoy this.
Well done to all involved.

Thylacines being cloned!, why do we need to, lets just protect the one's that are left;as i know there are numbers of them out there just doing what they do best, being stealthy, secretive and cunning...go the tassie tiger yay.
it's a bit like the big cats issue..Govt position.. no! no! now calm down everbody.. nothing to see here.. no big cats..just histerical members of the public..yeah right bull*%$#.
Its groups like this one that keep em honest and keep the searches going, collecting the evidence and the data...jeez we're good.
