Here in our great country we have a 2.5/3mtr built like a brick toilet moves through the bush like an express train do in his spare time but look through your windows at 3am and get your poo poo valve going among other things...
I have some serious questions...1. How aggro/timid are they. 2.Has anyone been attacked and killed by one,(people have gone missing in the past in or near bush areas with no explanation)example: A woman with 2 small dogs in Yowie country in QLD went missing with no trace on her daily bush walk with her dogs...police believe she met foul play but could not find an answer, its a open case file... please understand I'm trying scare monger but lets be real their not teddy bears, these guys are serious muscle... 3.Yes/No: They show large a degree of intelligence, their curious they communicate, they show self awareness etc..4. Are they the top of the food chain and maybe above us, are we a menu item... final Q... Being as big and powerful as they, WHY do they fear US...

Hi there HB - I'm sure I've read it somewhere before, but I can't find it - this case you referred to with the missing woman, whereabouts was that?

These are my opinions:
1) They can be both. Curious, timid or really pissed off. Depends which one you come across at the time and how they're "feeling". Refer to the SAS encounter for more information about that one.
2) Yes, there has been 'unconfirmed' reports of people going missing/killed.
3) Yep, they're intelligent, in a sense that they know their surroundings more than your average person would. They'll also communicate with each other. Or whoever person in the area by throwing rocks, growling, foot stamping.
4) Menu item? No. Threat to their territory? Yes.
5) Why do they fear us? I can't explain that one. Maybe they feel the same way about us as we do about them in that regard.

Re: Fear is an understanding not a word
the bottom line is treat the unknown with respect and caution as the predictable can turn pear shape in seconds, Any outing you should look at with a clear mind, And old survival trick i used when doing night patrols in the city was i would walk into a building or alley and play war games in my head IE if someone comes at me now i can use that table to block him and get out instead of giving him a lead injection and always know your escape route at all times. The same applies in the bush most hunters stalk and come from behind so if in doubt cover your back and hold out until safe to move from what i understand the best defence is light or fire so be prepared and dont be a Q2
and i agree with what dead wrote AKA alex :-)
with the only difference to Q5
all wild animals fear humans and those that dont we kill off

...hey Cass... I've noticed that you have changed your signature from...
...Carpe diem...(which I think translates to ..."seize the moment" perhaps?)...
..to the new signature...
...Croyez en vous...(um..."believe what you wish" or "whatever you think"?...maybe?)...
...quite the philosopher...philosopheress?...young lady!!!...great sayings and so appropiate for these forums methinks... I like the way that you think Cass... cheers... Stickyfingers.

Re: Fear is an understanding not a word
I read somewhere there was a test done. 5 people wore plain t-shirts and watched a scary movie or something, and then the shirts were given to other people to smell. They smelt the shirts, and picked out the ones who were scared the most. So to a degree humans can too.Cass wrote: Fear is something a human cannot hide from these creatures and their razor sharp senses.
Just not on the level of the Yowie. Considering any new smell to it is a threat/curiosity. As soon as you step into their territory, they'll know. Without a doubt.
Why do you think people get tracked all the time? They're just escorting you along the way until you've gone. If you step into their territory, well - anything can happen. Ask Dean, he knows.
