If Yowies were proven by science tomorrow ........

I was wondering what everyones thoughts would be, If they woke up tomorrow morning, Turned on the tv and the main story was that someone had found scientific proof (say a body) of a yowie.
Do you think this would be a good or bad thing for the species or not ?
Personaly I think in the short term it would be a bad thing, As I can imagine that all the Tom's, Dick's and harry's would want to go see for themselves and it would turn into one of these crazes that last a few months and hopefully die off. I think in this time alot of damage could and most likely would be done to the national parks and forests by these joe smiths trying to find and get a happy snap with these elusive animals.
I can see they would become the ultimate prize for some of the hunters out their, Who would love to pit their wit and intelegence against these "ape-men" and would track them down to the ends of our country.
Also their would be a big tourist push and yowie sighting tours which just like the hunters and joe smiths would put presure and stress on the envoronment and the yowies in more accesable areas, If not managed correctly.
One thing going for the yowies in this case senerio would be their remotness in most cases. Im sure the goventment would imediatly make them a protected species by law, But so far ive only seen success in the long term, Not the short term from these sort of laws world wide.
One of the good points would be that the government would make "No go areas" for the public, But unless this was done and enforced on a timely fashion I think that it could turn out bad for our hairy friends.
Im not saying that just because they were proven to be real that we would wipe them out, I just think that they would have more preasure to survive in some cases.
I really wish I could be more positive about when they are proved real but going on the human race track record im not to sure.
What is everyone's thoughts?

Mikka,
I'd have to agree with you in terms of our track record. I would think too that we would lose in a way a part of the excitment that comes with looking and understanding something that is so much a mystery. For me at the moment i am excited about the fact that it is such a mystery, do i beleive they exist? I would be pretty confident in saying yes, there is so much more out there that we possibly would not know about mainly because there are areas and boundries that we really do not have alot of contact with.
I think that if science was able to establish that they definately do exist, would be good but in a way we have also found out some humans have a disregard for laws and rules and it would only be a matter of time before someone went hunting for it tried to kill one, or more so it kill them. But we would also be introduced to an entirely different species, and in this era of species become extinct, would be a ray of sunshine.
Feel the same way as you on this, it is a good question and perhaps why some information is kept non disclosed to the general public, the way Dean is handling any information on the Yowie is good, there is alot of responsibilty to having such information and you really only need one person or group to cause trouble with such information.
Jay.

I would hate to think that one day someone would be driving a bus on a Yowie Safari. I hope that when they are 'discovered' by science, they have the good scence to keep locations ect. to themselves. And Alex, I would like to see some sort of protected species law enacted here, but then again, being protected dosen't help tigers and rhinos all that much!

Mikka, you are obviously new to all of this. I assure you that your enthusiasm in regards to hunting the yowie will wane sometime soon. There will come a point in time when you ask yourself "What the hell am I wasting all my time chasing this mythical yowie for". At that point you will realise your wasted time could have been much better spent elsewhere. Have you ever once considered that the founder of this website does not have a single shred of evidence in the form of photographs, motion video, or audio recordings that such a thing as the yowie exists?

That
YOU are aware of............

which would hardly preclude A.Y.R.s possession of such material now would it ?

My post was not meant to discourage anyone from pursuing the yowie, nor was I attempting to discredit the founder/founders of the site. I'm sure Dean has experienced encounters with the yowie first hand, and for whatever reason has not captured the event on camera or on audio tape as it has unfolded. I have pursued the yowie for just under a decade and I have come to two conclusions. Firstly, the yowie is most definitely a real phenomena, and secondly it is of paranormal origin. Yep, I hate to say it but I don't believe this thing is flesh and blood, it's something that defies our current undestanding and that really bugs me a lot. After having spent countless hours in the bush in the hunt for the yowie, I have not seen a single trace of it, yet dozens of people every year going about their business report seeing it. Surely if I'm in the area of a spate of sightings I have a much greater chance of seeing it, but nope nothing.

Byteman,
Thank you for your views.
I just happened to be looking through your profile, and took exception to you email address - eebiz_victims. I'm guessing you chose that address yourself? Strange word to have in your email address..... "Victims". Your Yahoo account is also easy to obtain.
Sounds rather juvenile to me. An email address such as that would be taken either as a grain of salt, ignored or blocked in fear of Spam or threat of virus.
Secondly, you graciously informed us of an encounter in the vicinity of the Glasshouse Mountains (of which you didn't properly elaborate on, despite numerous requests). I enjoyed the fact you spoke of the area with such authority. My problem is you clearly state the Glasshouse Mountains is behind the "Big Pineapple". It is not...............
Thirdly, you invited the company of females to join you to research - your offer is purely "Females Only".
Further more, you offer to assist or meet female only travel costs. Very odd.
On Feb 2, you ask (alias Chewy), after having explained a UfO encounter, if he was inseminated by Alien Grey or Reptile's, OR if at any stage.................... they removed a "FETIS" from him? Happens to you regularly I suspect.
On Feb 3, you speak of long lasting UFO encounters involving Emerald, Cranbourne and Belgrave. These encounters last long enough, you can make out every detail? I'm impressed that you can sit back and watch UFO's buzz about you, why no footage? (One of YOUR comments towards me). UFO's aren't 7ft tall and can't hide behind rocks and bushes in the dark.
Also on Feb 3, ....... you announced you are GAY to escape critisism from the "proposition" post. Good for you, but please go back in the closet - we don't care.
In addition your you infamous Feb 3 posts I will add the cruncher.........................
YOU are invited to a friends house for a few 'drinks' and ......"Quote".... Watch the UFO's.
You 'CLEARLY' state, you SAT (pre-warned) on the veranda to watch the UFO's (which you clearly state you did) - yet NO footage? At least my good man, YOU were PRE warned! Not just pre-warned, but INVITED to watch, "the UFO's........ ".
Love to see THOSE pictures - but where ARE they?
NOW... you claim your a veteran YOWIE HUNTER with TEN years experience and wish to criticise others in the field.
Do you iron your own Cape or have it professionally pressed?

I'd like to forget about Mr Diversion who has hijacked this thread for his own enjoyment.
Mikka, your great question 'If Yowie's were proven by science tomorrow...' could also have added to the question - 'would people believe?'
Footprints... too many people have hoaxed them which muddies the waters. Sound recordings... again, science would happily debunk it as an inconclusive. I'm not sure decent footage would do it, it's always easy to discredit and befuddle the masses with techno-jargon. It's happened before.
Even DNA...would find it hard to stand up as it would probably be classified as 'unknown origin' and science is looking for absolutes.
All the evidence previously mentioned has been tended and met with heavy skepticism from the larger scientific community. So unfortunately there's one last bit of evidence to obtain...
I tend to believe that the only way science would claim that Yowie's exist is either by the capture of a live specimen or more likely and sadly one on the autopsy table.
The ironic thing is that if such a discovery was made, release to the masses would be via television and print, the very media they easily discredit.
But blaming science is not the answer... It's like blaming religion for wars. Science and religion are only as good as the people that use them.
Cheers Buck

Sadly, it is the only way to 'prove' their existence.
I have nothing to prove. I used to, but not now... Like others, when first starting, I used to be an expert, but the more first hand experiences I had with the Yowie, the less I knew.
There is only one way to obtain a body, and that is to catch it off guard. The only way to catch it off guard is while it is concentrating on other matters, but this is no longer my interest.
You take a lot with you while researching - more than what you know - make of that what you will.

i have no interest in catching one off guard or proving to the world they are real. i just would like to see with my own eyes and maybe a photo or video to share with those i know would not try and gain money or fame, Let it live as it has lived in the wild without thousands of people trying to bag one dead or alive just for the fame.
On the other hand if i did somehow catch one i would contact certain people here and show them and let it go, followed by a couple of bottles of bourban
