my sighting
as i was 7 i cant remenber a lot ( to many parties ) but i will try.
it was winter so it was the dry season in QLD, it all happened in a pine forest that we hired off my school near Kilcoy, at 12pm we decided to go yabby hunting,so we walked 100 - 150 meters to the entrence to the creek and procceded down the creek 200m when we heard loud crashing going away from us, so we just shugged it off as nothing and continued down the creek for another 150 - 200 meters, when we heard the crashing again all of our attention was drawn in to the direction of the crashing we heard. (at this stage it had stopped)
i decided to go down the creek abit more, but as i took my step i looked up and saw a yowie crossing the creek in front of me. it was 8ft tall, white fur, with grey skin on the face, hands and feet. it just passed in front of me with no care in the world, i was the only one to see it because everybody else was looking in the bush for what caused the crashing in the scrub.
the people with me were my mum, my mates mum, my mate, mates brothers and my brother. in total 7 of us.
i didn't tell my mum or my friends mum about it untill my brother told them about a creature following us when we took a afternoon walk up the loging trails, when i told them what i saw in the creek we packed up camp and went home.
before the sightings there were a few werid events that happened.
my dad walked out of the kitchen and somthing growled at him, he thought it was a koala but when we got home my dad remembered it was a pine forest it couldnt of been a koala they wouldn't survive there.
when we were all asleep, except my mum who was just laying in her bed, somthing heavy walked on to the verhanda and was breathing deaply.
after my sighting i knew what to look for if a yowie had been there.
my school goes there( im not at the school any more) and have heaps of camps, our new principle wanted to make a new enterance to the creek closer to the camp, so me knowing the area like the back of my hand i had to help her, armed with a machete we walked across the loging trail and started to cut, when i started to walk in to the bush behind my principle i looked at the ground and saw a huge foot print that was fresh, i stopped my principle and showed it to her and she turned white.
my principle had told her about what i had experianced at the camp site but she didn't believe him, i guess it took seeing evidence to change her mind.
Cheers, FlashTimmy

Re: my sighting
Wow, I would have soiled myself if I had seen that.
Part of me just LONGS to see a Yowie, but the other part of me that is mostly obsessed with self-preservation would probably mean I would leg it outta there like all the hounds of hell were after me.
What on earth went through your head after you saw it? Do you know of any local stories about this Yowie, or is it not really spoken about?
Thanks for posting the details here for us to read.
Kind regards,
Shazz

Re: my sighting
the AYR team have been to the camp and have confirmed that somthing is there.
the only reason i knew it was a yowie, was because in the town park of Kilcoy there is a statue of a yowie, but when something like that happens to you and your 7 yearsold you don't know what to think, but when i go in the scrub now i am always looking for strange things and watching my back

Re: my sighting
Rightio, I missed the Kilcoy location in your story, but now it all makes sense.... I hope you don't mind me highjacking your thread a little... story time.
Let me tell you about one morning when I woke up at 3am, couldn't sleep, so jumped in the car to go for a drive (my sleeping tablet method, and less addictive!). I just followed my nose, and ended up heading out past Caboolture. I remember driving along this rainforest-y sort of road as the sun was just starting to come through the trees, and it was still early, and a bit misty. No idea of time of year, but it was a little cool.
I was long past Kilcoy, and was getting low on petrol, and hoping like hell there was a servo somewhere ahead. When I got to Jimna, the road ended, and though there was a little country all-purpose store with a petrol pump out the front, it was still sparrowsfart, and nobody was around, so I decided to risk it, and headed back towards Caboolture.
You guessed it, I ran out of fuel on that winding road, nowhere to park, and as I was one of the lucky people way back then who actually had a brick-sized 'car phone', I lucked out and had enough reception to call RACQ. Sitting back to wait, I just had the window down, and was listening to how quiet everything was. It was actually quite lovely, but after a little while, I started to look around, as the area was really quite quiet - no cars going by, just the bush and it's sounds and scents. I recall hearing whipbirds, and other bird calls, and then it got a bit spooky, and I started wondering if there was anything you know, "out there", since Kilcoy area is famous for its' Yowies.
Well, within ten minutes I was starting to get a bit freaked out, and when the RACQ man arrived with a jerrycan, I practically gabbled like a demented woman in relief at seeing another human being. I was starting to feel relieved again, as he refuelled the car, and as he finished up, I was thanking him, when he said "I wouldn't want to break down in this area - you never know what's out there" and he pointed to the forest stretching all around us. He told me some rellie of his was a rural fire brigade volunteer or something, and that he had seen/heard something when out in the bush, and as a result, he wouldn't go out alone after that. That had me properly freaked out! I was never so relieved when the old girl fired up and I was on my way again.
Unfortunately (or is that fortunately - for my state of mind) I've not seen any Yowies but I've been through some areas they are supposed to frequent, and I'm still keen on learning about them.
Just for a teaser, also, I've heard there is something odd living in the bush behind Rocksberg, east of Morayfield. I have a mate living out that way, and he tells me there have also been odd rumblings felt through the ground, and strange 'subterranean' noises reported in the mountain areas nearby. I would dearly love to have a word to the local banana farmers around there...

Re: my sighting
Hi Tim,
You look a lot more grown up since the last time I saw you!
Its a great place to go. Hiring a cabin out there is far better than tenting it, plus you have toilet, shower kitchen etc.
My brother was up there a few months ago and they had a good sighting at night. Has been many years since I have been there, however I plan to get there sometime soon.
In regard to the "white", for some unknown reason there have been a few reports of them between Kilcoy and Esk, which as you know are a close proximity to each other.
Hey Seeker and YL1 - this place would really suit you guys.

Re: my sighting
What a top read
i think we all hope for close(pants soiling) encounters, it occurs to me more and more that any part of this country that has state forest or natioanl parks etc must be frequented by our homind friend either regularily or occasionally. I think they get around a lot more that we think...all the hills and forests are their "suburbs" and roadways, i for one think every bit of hilly forested country is fair game for activity, like most native animals they must be squeezed into ever diminishing pieces of real estate and as they are not hunted they must be still breeding........this whole yowie phenomenom is going haunt my daily thoughts till i go to my grave.... i think about them at work...at home...fishing...driving...every-bloody-where

Re: my sighting
Yeah Dean...sounds like a great place for Seeker and I to go with someone else too. The equipment aquisition is still going on and now I have a recorder for the Bionic ear that can record high quality all night - apart from other things comming very soon.
The toy list keeps growing but all these things are for not missing that chance encounter for getting great evidence in the future. The budget for all this is quite serious...its going to be great fun using it all.

During Primary School I often made kids wet their pants.
Now I educate how not to......
Guys - we need a major trip. Another Operation Rotation, which was one of our best in the past. A mission where everyone is involved.
Give me some time to think it out.
