I have ponderd this question for quite a while now, Yowies ( or should i say object perceived to be a yowie, bias aside ) would they have a prefered area as a home base if so it would possibly need to meet certain criteria for them (or object preceived to be a yowie) such as the following

1. Rocky gorge or cave area?
2. availabilityof water?
3. X amount of distance from human habitation?
4. availability of food source?
5. Heavily forested?
etc etc

When i look at certain areas up in the tropics, i think to myself is this an area a " perceived object" would use as a base or nest area, i would be interested in other opinions

I for one will now replace the word Yowie with "perceived object" ..so i dont piss the skeptics off

Yes, I too have done this: walking through an area and thinking "this looks like a cool place for a Yowie to hang out - wonder if there are any around?". I have even done this driving along country road areas with lots of little daggy old timber bridges and such, going over overgrown but large creeks and rivers. There are plenty of farm areas backing onto forest, and the farmers probably rarely go to the furthest ends of their properties, so even in proximity to human habitation, a smart Yowie (is there any other kind?) would probably hear a vehicle or quad bike approaching and have plenty of time to make itself scarce.

I tend to think that places with decent rocky outcrops for shelter from the elements would be pretty crucial as home bases for the Yowie. I imagine them to be a bit nomadic though, travelling through a home territory into outlying areas when certain trees begin to bear fruits, or when animals birth young in groups (read: livestock farm areas), as this may be necessary to ensure they don't eat themselves into a desert. Access to water? Yep, that's a given. Plenty of thick cover to hide and hunt in, with lots of sticks and leaf litter around so they can hear when there are other animals about, including humans. Deep, dangerous ravines and such, where few humans go - sounds like prime Yowie real estate to me.
