Well..since in live in "yowiecentral" in the Blue Mountains I tend to want to believe that manipulation of the enviroment in odd ways might be yowies...so I started to see rock stacks appearing in different areas near some well known hot spots for yowie reports.
Given that the area has probably had more reports, in a small location, of ape like thingys than any other place on earth..I sometimes get excited if something seems surreal.
And just to clarify..the number of witnesses, ie, about 50-70..is over probably 20 years so we are not fighting off yowies in the streets everyday.
I started to wreck the stacks to see if anything happened... in the "yowie relaxation area" the stacks would reappear..several metres from the walking tracks.
Last Saturday night I wrecked the latest stack..but for a difference, I placed a texta and a piece of paper on top of the wrecked stack.Ruby thought I was barking mad for 1/hoping it was yowies 2/leaving a texta/paper out for ??..probable kids..
Next day, the stack is back..with the paper and texta on top...great ..I am communicating with texta wielding yowies..?
Err..no..The note said "Trying to keep a small memorial to a close friend please leave my cairn intact thanks"

Good post. From my (skeptical) perspective this represents some sound evidence regarding rock stacks at last unless of course somebody wants to suggest that yowies are English literate and grieve.

You may not have proved that yowies exist but you have proved that that particular rock stack is not of yowie origin. Now, of course, you need to repeat the experiment with a different rock stack and see what you get.

But on the positive side you have conducted some research and got a result (albeit not the result some may have wanted).

Now, yowies aside and not knowing specifically where you live, I'm actually intrigued as to whether the person for whom the cairn had been erected actually died at that location or whether it is just a 'spiritual place' where the griever likes to remember them (perhaps they were a bushwalker).

It would probably be rude to ask (via texta). At least though there is one plausibe explanation of why rock stacks appear in the bush. May not account for all of them but must at least account for some. Note the rapidly escalating number of roadside 'shrines' for accident victims over the last decade.

I have read quite a few tthreads on the rock stacks issue and always keep an eye out when in the scrub for anything unnatural which may indicate a marker, only place i have seen rock stacks is about 100kms Nth of Alice in the Hasst range, it is a rugged isolated area only frequented by gem fossickers ( like myself), i noticed stacks from 4 to 6 stones high in several remote areas well off any road or track....my problem is that i cannot discount that these were set by Aboriginal people or other people.
Interestingly this area is very close to Yamba Station which had a scary yowie close encounter and is documented in the NT reports section

Still, I think it was a bit rude of the yowie that left the reply, not to leave you it's name also! Darn rude in fact! The pen pushing yowie really slipped up though, when he used the word 'cairn'. Sheesh, everyone knows 'cairn' is the yowie equivalent of 'tomb stone' in their native tongue!! It's just a good thing some of us are on to these mischievious yowies who continually try to out fox us gullible humans!

So Mike, when are we all invited up to conduct an archaelogical dig for the yowie bones, the subject of the memorial??

Sure...unless kids ar doing the other ones and they dont rebuild or reply to my pen/paper "trap".

Thats..sadly..the core of the problem.!the more remote..the more chance of possibly koori markers of some sort..

Interesting, I will have to check it out..when joe black lived near me..sort of..he tried to meet local koori`s for a chat about the yowie..that sort of didnt happen though...some koori say it exists/existed..some say its BS..some say its spiritual...

rock stacks? Thats like in Blair Witch. I saw someone on Big foot forums saying they have seen the same thing

Hi Rusty and welcome to the forum mate....Rock Stacks we think its some kind of marker for the big guy to show his fellow yowies that this is his spot other words you can walk past my fence but god help you if you come through the gate lol...

It makes sense to me though because I know that Brumbies up in the national park at the snowies, leave dung piles to mark territory.

You know, after reading this, I can remember somewhere seeing rock piles in the middle of the bush and wondered why the hell there would be rock piles in the middle of the bush. It wasnt in any area that was populated by people but i cant think where it was or when, i just remember thinking how old for rocks to be piled up like that
