I own my house in a small country town (KILMORE) in victoria australia, On sat 7th feb i drove to the station about 2km away and then home via the shops by the time i got home i could see the smoke east of my house the wind was blowing from the north and a strong gale, This day was deadly it was 49 deg c (for you americans 120f) the highest temp ever recorded,a wind change would mean me my family and house all gone it was that close and the fire moved that fast as was only about 3 km away from me.
The fires that started next to were i live have claimed 800+ home 100+lives and totally taken 2 towns off the map Marysville and Kinglake the toll is still rising and fires still burning.
Rip all you souls taken by this hell on earth and you bastards who started it may you burn in hell.
This day is the worst fires in history for us and they still burn across victoria and many toens still under threat Our country fire authority never give and put their own lives down to protect the rest of us to you guys i salute you as they dont get paid.
If i cant get on for any length of time its due to cut power our whole state is being affected mainly in the country towns

I went through Ash Wednesday, my heart goes out to all of you down their. This has brought back so many memories. While for the most its over anyone in the path of these fires please get out early, you can rebuild houses but you can rebuild lives.

My heart goes out to the CFA volunteer that was out fighting these fires and while he was away from home his wife and 2 kids lost their lives :( Also all the others, such a waste of life

Anyone caught lighting these fires I think life in Jail is a easy out, I can think of more fitting punishment

Stainmaster please stay safe, if you get advice to evacuate please get out

My heart goes out to all of those who have lost every thing... and those that have lost family and friends. The town of Callignee where I lived most of my life is nothing but ash. Like so many other towns through out Vic the lose of life has been terrible. Many friends in the area have perished and my deepest sympathy goes out to the families.

I would like to say a big thanks to the CFA hero's that saved Frank, and two of his mates, who where at my parents houses trying to save the house. The inferno was so bad the fire pump they where using exploded. They managed to take shelter in side a concrete water tank behind a shed. But the inferno was so intense the water tank started cracking and the water was starting to boil around the sides. They managed to get an sos called out to the CFA for help and luckily the CFA was able to pull them out in time. Others have not been so lucky....

This is what is left of my Parents house. Thank fully they where in NSW for the weekend but they have lost every thing

As I watched the news tonight, and heard all the stories of death and devastation, my heart wept for all those
affected by the fires raging along the Victorian bushland and through the towns.

Strange2 and Stainy, be safe, won't you. We might not be able to do more than be here for you to talk to, but if anyone wants to donate, you can ring Red Cross on 1800 811 700. Or you can make a credit card donation online at http://www.redcross.org.au/vic/services ... l-2009.htm

It's not much, but it will help those who have lost everything except hope.

Lasso, if they ever catch the terrorists that did this...WELL... dowsing them in fuel and lighting a match would be to good for them.

I couldn't agree more Shazz, help those who have lost everything except hope. The BLOODY ENORMOUS EFFORT the fire-fighters, redcross, salvos and everyday people have made already is nothing more than fantastic but the more support given, will make it, just that little bit easer for some of these families.

i looked on google street view of marysville, man that was very
eerie and devastating to see what once was, made me feel sick
to think the place i would love to retire is no more, and empty of life,
just terrible.

The way that everyone has come together to support those that have lost so much, touches my heart.

I was watching the news and saw a video of what a family went through, they are so lucky that Mum could not find the car keys or they may have not been one of the lucky ones.

The whole thing is so sad and my thoughts and prayers are with the families that are still living in hope that their friends and other family member are still alive.

The ones that were not so lucky......Rest in peace

I couldn't agree more Lasso..

It's great how the nation has pulled together on this one. (thumb) I know there has already been a lot of support in donations and clothing and the like, but The Red Cross urgently need's people to donate blood for the burn victims. So if any body wants to help and your not scared of a needle please think about donating blood.....

Cheers

PS. I have heard rumors some insurance companies are already trying to worm their way out of cough up... (2guns)

I recon there could be consequences... (guns pose) (2guns)

On a brighter note...The insurance guys came out to the property on Tuesday and approved my Parents insurance claim. The money was deposited into there account on Friday..unbelievably quick.

It's made thing's just that little bit easer for them...They have already started looking around at display homes and the dozers come in next week to start cleaning up. There also looking at building an underground sellar for peace of mind.

I know where I will be in 2012...lol
