........Ormeau.

A couple of years ago, the National Rugby League decided it might be a good idea to enter another team into the competition. All you fellow footy freaks will know what I'm talking about. They were tossing up between a new Gold Coast team or another Sydney-based Central Coast team.

The Gold Coast side was in need of a mascot, so the Gold Coast Bulletin held a competition for their readers, to see who could come up with a mascot and logo. I had a few ideas, so I had a bit of a scribble and sent one in.

I thought you guys would get a bit of a kick out of it. :)

Anyway, the NRL ended up deciding that they didn't want another team until further down the track, much to the disappointment of both parties, however the Gold Coast adopted a mascot for further reference.

Now, I would have assumed that a bloodthirsty, 8-foot cryptic hominid would strike fear into the hearts of their opponents. But you know what they went for? The Gold Coast Dolphins.

Fairies.

Now, in regards to Ormeau....

Last Saturday, at about 11:00 am, a few friends and myself were driving along a very rough dirt track out the back of Ormeau Hills, looking for a suitable stake-out position for that evening.

We came across a very nice little clearing, about 5 metres by 6 metres, close to thick bush and very close to where the car would be, in case sh*t went down. Anyone who's wandered through the Ormeau bush in the middle of the night will know exactly what I'm talking about.

We got out of the car for a bit of a poke around. About 5-10 metres into the bush from the track we noticed something. A tree, about 7 or 8 feet from the ground had been snapped in half in what appeared to be an incredible feat of strength. Not only that, but it seemed that other branches had been strategically placed around it. We decided that this warranted some more exploring.

After another few minutes, something about 20 metres away, down in a gully, caught my attention. It was hanging from a tree, swaying in the breeze. You know that feeling you get? Your blood runs cold and your heart skips a beat? I got that. It was the corpse of an animal, hanging from a tree.

I decided to have a closer look, despite one of my mates turning into a quivering mess and locking himself in my car. :D

On further inspection, I noticed something quite unexpected. It was indeed an old carcass, a kangaroo, and it was hanging in a tree, but it was tied there by a rope. Now, either 'Big Fella' has taught himself to tie knots and decided to hang his lunch in a tree until dinner time, or someone has placed it there.

Which brings me to my next question......Why? :?

Keeping in mind that this is bang-smack in the middle of an infamous hotspot.

My assumption was that we had stumbled across some sort of set-up where it was being used as bait. I can't tell for sure, but what else could it be? I mean, you put 2 and 2 together, a roo carcass hanging from a tree, a short distance from a mangled tree, in down-town Yowieville?

What do you guys think?

Can anyone claim responsibility? Should I continue my research elsewhere? Or does this matter deserve further investigation?

First things first, killer sketch man. It owns.

Secondly, roo carcass hanging by a tree? Hrm. Don't suppose you checked for traps around the place. Either that, or ole' matie has figured out the advantages of using rope.

Personally, i'd say, keep going with what you're doing out there, but tread more carefully.

Peace out.

Love the sketch Romeo. :D

It sounds like someone is setting a trap/ baiting with the roo, just take added precautions around there.

How common is yowie knowledge to the locals in the area?

I think the locals have a fair idea of what's going on. Apparently most of the Ormeau sightings described on this site have occurred within the vicinity of this area. I also recieved a tip-off from a mate with some positive news from the same place.

I will be heading out that way again shortly, so I will keep everyone updated on our progress and I'll be sure to take a camera.

Photos of the roo and the snapped tree will be posted soon, along with any other discoveries we make.

I dunno about the roo but, its pretty heavily decayed and had it's insides ripped out. I don't want to cause offence to anyone. If anyone has a problem just let me know, and I might take the photo from a distance.

I think the roo was morbidly depressed and hung itself...

Great sketch... I would sign up to watch yowies play footy.

Stupid question, did you you do your avatar?

It is very obvious that the Roo is Yowie bate. I also know for a fact that there are a LOT of people researching this area, so take care and do not creep around there at night because I can't guarantee nobody is carrying weapons.

There are many people who are followers of this site who inform me of their movements in certain areas, and there are silent followers/readers out there that do not........

Ormeau right now is a dangerous place, not because of the Yowie, but because of Humans - some with bad intentions.

Do not head out there alone, beware of traps and do not let anyone mistake you for a Yowie at night.

You could be right, Buck. I think he knew that sooner or later he would end up as a meal anyway, and just couldn't take it anymore.........

As for my avatar, I would like to say I did, but I didn't. I found it on some other site. That's the kind of stuff I like to draw, but.

And thanks for your concern, Dean. I shall be more cautious in future.

Romeo,

Pictures tell a thousand words - it's always worthwhile travelling with a camera and taking photos of anything odd/out of the ordinary that you come across. We would have loved to have seen a pic of your discovery.

All in good time, my dear.

If I have a spare few hours this afternoon, I'll go straight back out and snap a few.

Mystery over. I know who put the Roo in the tree.

Is that a fact?

I have just returned from the site. I took a camera and snapped a few pics, which I shall post as soon as I get the chance.

There was one thing that I did not mention before, mainly because I did not see the relevance. Around the area of the tree in question was a blue tape-like material, with an approximate 6 metre diameter and the tree in the middle. The photos will illustrate this. It looked like rubbish to me so I ignored it.

Today, upon further inspection, it seemed that the tape was extremely sticky on one side. Which led me to believe that whoever left it there knew exactly what they were doing. It was quite clever, really - leave out some enticing bait, and surround the area with a sticky substance, in the hope of retrieving some hair samples.

Speaking of which, I found some VERY interesting black hair attached to the sticky side of the tape. I will post a sample of it along with the photos.

Some of the other photos include the snapped tree mentioned before and a rather intriguing structure consisting of some pretty large branches.

And who did leave the roo there? Am I intruding on anything?
