Just got an email from someone asking me to put this up for them.

(sorry for size of some pics)

location: SE-QLD
Time: 3pm found & 5:30pm collected
Terrain: hilly Dense to open bushland, dried up creek nearby
Weather: Fine
Found: Scat Found on a sealed road (was found exactly as is, With what looks like a semi digested paw) ...




Tree damage .....




Area .....







Termite mounds that had been damaged and broken into (surrounding area).

Dead wasp nest found next to the road of the scat.

Area is regulary used by bushwalkers.
No known sighting before.

They arent claiming that this is or is not yowie related. Just wanted some ideas.

Very very interesting, the bifucated grooming claws show that it came from a marsupial and the granulation up to the claw to me looks like possum.
I have seen big cat or thylacoleo scat with fox paws imbedded in it.
Can you reduce the size of the pics to more reasonable size please.
The pic of cells look like honeycomb.
I hope these specimens were saved.
Pro Garry Opit would be interested in this and could probably give a correct answer

The scat is in his fridge .. much to the horror of his girlfriend (in a paper bag with a plastic bag over the lot)

I made sure he wore gloves (surgical in this instance)

If anyone could pass this onto gary would be much appresiated

Nice pic Micca; it's almost certainly a Macropod back leg. Wallys right; the 2 little claws are the grooming claws (anatomically, theyre actually the second and third toes)
If you have a copy of Tracks, Scats & Traces have a look at page 14.
But..........who's been chewing on it?
The scat beside it looks a little like fox. They often mark their feeding site with a scat.
Did the witnesses notice a roadkilled kangaroo/wallaby beside the road nearby? Maybe a scavenging fox has pulled a leg off & dropped it in the middle of the road?

the original post says that the paw was partly digested so the paw would be imbedded in the scat.

When time permits i will look up Pro Opits add.
Regarding specimens in fridge.
A local nursing sister where I once lived had a placenta in a jug in the fridge. She had some friends come to stay and while she was in the surgery her friends set the table. Placenta in coffee is not a regular bill of fare.
After that when she had friends come to stay she brought her specimens over to put in my fridge

Did the witnesses notice a roadkilled kangaroo/wallaby beside the road nearby? Maybe a scavenging fox has pulled a leg off & dropped it in the middle of the road?

Nothing was found in the imediate area

This scat has had me thinking for a while now,

My thoughts:
The claw is actually quite big compared to the actual scat therefore if it was chewed up and pooed out something big must of laid it.

What else I notice is the 'wet spots' around the scat, doubt they are actually wet but something stained the ground, maybe blood? or?

Now what could of it been???
Feral Pig??? Dog(Possible)? Fox(bit small)? Cat(way to small) ... any other carnivorous critters that eat possums in our forests???

Ok, I went back for a ride this morning and bumped into a ranger, I told him about the Scat and he said it could be possible that a fox got lucky, however after I explained the size of the paw he wasn't to sure either.

He did tell me 2 dogs have been sigthed on the otherside of the forest, its possible they are feral or belong to an adjacent farm.

So I'm going to chuck the scat out and write it off as a feral dog attack.

On my ride today I decided to bring my camera and get some pics of the tree damage & termite hill damage: check out new post titled "Unknown Scat"

It is not a possum but the scat & hind pes (foot) of a wallaby, by its size & shape probably of a swamp wallaby. However the middle toe should be longer than the outside toe so I would imagine that what looks like a claw on the middle toe is actually a foot bone & the rest of the toe has been removed. However if it is a claw on the middle toe than the foot is highly mutated & the speciman should be presented to a museum.

That's just great, I just chucked it in the bin and there is no way my g/f will let me put it in!! damn it ... women.. can't live with em can't live without em...

I'm going to give QLD museum a call tomorrow and see if they want it.

Unfortunately these images are no longer available due to them most probably being shared on another file sharing platform.

Likely lost/deleted in the vast space of the inter-web.
