AUSTRALIA'S original "Yowie Man", Rex Gilroy was in town this week investigating the recent yowie sighting near Connelly's Creek Gap, which shocked two Wingham women.
It was at 7.30pm on July 31 when Faye Burke and Alana Garnett said they drove past a yowie, standing on the side of Nowendoc Road, towards Cundle Flat. "We are absolutely convinced," Faye said.
Serious "yowie" investigator Rex Gilroy drove from Katoomba on Tuesday to investigate the area with Faye and collect information.
Driving out to the location with Faye, Rex said they went into the bushland for more than two hours and gathered enough evidence to prove the yowie's existence.
"These ladies did not imagine what they saw," he said. "I cast a footprint 40cm long and 26cm wide. And I am almost convinced there was not one yowie there but two."
Rex said he found a second footprint of a different size further down into the gully.
"I found the second footprint by following a scent trail," he said. "It was a faint smell that I have recognised before."
Rex has been investigating and researching yowies for more than 20 years and is quick to dismiss the detected scent and footprints as belonging to anything else.
"It definitely has nothing to do with cows and it was not a cow odour," he said. "The footprints match ones I have found in the Blue Mountains."
Rex said he is convinced the area contains yowies. "Convinced enough to make an ongoing investigation."
Fay said she is relieved to have met Rex and "nothing worries me now I have Rex to back me up".

Re: Yowie sighting near Connelly's Creek Gap
This is an incredible account. There is definitely significant activity going on in the greater Taree / Manning Valley area. The description of the creature being around four feet across reminds me of the possible male creature which I may (by chance) have photographed in Tapin Tops NP during 2007. (viewtopic.php?f=45&t=1204) The width and dimensions of this entity are amazing. It would be good if these women could provide a drawing of the entity.

Don`t bother me with the facts my mind is made up.

Is it possible, with the right type of tracking dogs or scent hounds to visit the site where a sighting had taken place and allow the dogs to follow the scent trail. Although the dogs may not like what they find."It was a faint smell that I have recognised before."

Re: Yowie sighting near Connelly's Creek Gap
This sighting has now got international intrest, in the local newspaper here in Taree on thursday it said that a letter had been sent to the people that sighted the yowie
care of the local newspaper requesting that the two people send a letter back to this person saying what they'd seen on that day and any photos that they may have. It was said that the envelope had money in it to cover the return postage. I think that the letter came from America.
Good to see that our local yowies
are known worldwide!!!
Cheers Dan.

Re: Yowie sighting near Connelly's Creek Gap
I think a major reason why this sighting has become so popular is because of the willingness of the witnesses to discuss their sighting to the media and researchers alike. Its pretty rare that witnesses have the courage to go public because at the end of the day its really a no win situation for them. In fact, many witnesses are subject to ridicule as has happened in this case already. Hopefully the researchers who investigated this case gave the witnesses some peace of mind by giving them a good insight into the yowie phenomenon and also made mention that they are amongst thousands of other witnesses across the country. It just makes me wonder if all witnesses came forward with such courgae than maybe the general public and scientific community would begin taking the subject seriously.

Re: Yowie sighting near Connelly's Creek Gap
Unfortunately most newspaper reporters feel compelled to run stories like this along a comical line with a funny heading , then conducts the interview along some "pi#* taking" line, attempting to make the witness seem like a kook. i have seen the odd serious attempt to treat a sighting along serious lines but it is rare. its like the reporters are incapable of simply doing the interview and let the facts speak for themselves.
so if you know of one of those rare reporters who gives the subject the respect it's due then keep his/her number
