Hi all - Dan and I went out to one of our sites on Sunday - I'll post a report tomorrow, but in the meantime, I wanted to post this vid I shot:

At around 33 secs in you can hear a faint knock, and then it repeats about every 5 secs. Quite faint on the vid, they were much closer than they sound.

Any suggestions of what sort of bird/critter could be making a noise like this?

The only knocks I could hear, were 3 light taps near the end..
Due to the acoustics, they sounded like taps on the micrphone..not that I think you are tapping the mic.
Other than birds..I dont know of anything that taps on wood..

Question.

Have other people experienced Rock clacking, i read alot about wood knocking, but my last experience up here in darwin-land we heard very distinct sounds of rock on rock and i know there were no other homo saps around, mike is it as common as wood??

Hi Mike - yeah, the sound sucks, sorry. I'm listening on earphones so I can hear them at all... need to get myself a better mic for audio.

Toppy - I've heard reports of the rock clacking - also sometimes that's what I use if I hear a knock that sounds further off, just to boost my volume a bit.

Off the top of my head..I dont believe so..
Bummer that I am deaf in one ear(more or less)..I have been in the bush here with Neil and jerry..they are hearing stuff..that I can hear sometimes..and they get stroppy with me for not hearing what they are hearing..
On a side not-At least we dont play with 2 way radios much..
It used to drive me insane when I would hear on the radio "are you hearing/seeing anything odd"

I think it's pretty obvious that we were being hunted by a mini Predator.

i cant tell you what you may have heard but ill give you a tip of what it may have been, especially as you were near a swamp.
a large frog named a pobblebonk or banjo frog, they have just come out of their burrows in the lasr few weeks and are calling for mates, their call is amazingly similar to hitting a hollow log.

some of the frogs ive had in my yard have varied in double knocks and single and the tone deeper, in a lower basin shaped area the sound has more depth and really resonates.

The sound of the frog you linked isn't the noise we heard, but I've just looked at frogs found in Brisbane so now I've got 36 more to listen to.

I cannot think of any animal which could be responsible for the noise. The only thing that the noise did reminded me of is the sound of someone chopping wood in the distance. I have been on a mates property before and whilst out bush have heard his old man chopping wood from a fairly good distance - its suprising how far a noise like that can travel. Be interested to know if there were any properties nearby and what time of year it was (eg. in winter its more likely that someone will be out chopping wood). Also is this an area where there are bushwalkers or is it the middle of nowhere. If its a bushwalking area than maybe someone out on a track was responding to you? Dunno, just trying to think of possible explanations.

In saying all that though if the noises were responding and if you can confidently discount another person being in the area than in my opinion you probably have the real deal. Also if this is an area of past activity which I`m assuming it is from comments posted previously than its even more likely! Good research!

Ha ha ha paredolia may explain away photos but it doesn`t explain away encounters which take place in that very area less than 12 hrs before!

Tree knocks are extremely common in active areas. In one location in which we venture, there have been times where one would hit the side from one side of the hill and a sudden response of three more would emanate from the other. On one occasion we actually witnessed the foliage moving up a hill and stop near a tree, followed by three loud slaps. No known Australian native animal is capable of this that I'm aware of. In the U.S., the skepticals blame Woodpeckers, however they don't have such a luxury in this Country, nor blaming footprints on Bears.

In regards to rock tapping - yes certainly heard that myself and we as a group in the past. In fact we do it ourselves because it seems to broadcast for a longer range. The rock taps that we hear are performed in much the same fashion as tree taps.

I remember not being able to sleep at night due to 'something' playing with a rock further down the creek bed. Not only was it 'tinkering' with the rock, it was also grinding it around on another rock surface. That I'm sure was to get our attention.

The rock clacking thing for us happened a we were hiking from one gully to another..rounded the corner of a hill at the entrance to the gully..then clack clack from up the gully...we stopped quetly discussed it then took several more steps and clack clack again...we took this to mean NO ENTRY...........retreat back to base camp

Hey Doc - thanks for the comments. How would you make the trade? Just leave it in the fork of a tree? Just curious as to how you'd proceed.

Hi SAB#78... woodchopping - there're properties within a few km's, but the closest one's were actually at least 2 ridges away. I know it doesn't sound like it, but these knocks were a lot closer - basically behind the stand of tall trees on the far side of the swamp.

Bushwalkers - unlikely, but always possible. I figure if we're somewhere then someone else can be too. But they didn't start in response to our knocks, the knocks started when we stopped to look at the swamp, they stopped when Dan knocked in response, and then started again while I was filming.

As an FYI I've posted below a copy of the pic I shot before the video. I sometimes do this when we're stopped looking at something, I figure you never know what we might pick out in the background when we get home...

mmmmmmmm, it is odd, i dont know why we didnt continue into the gully, we just unconciously decided to turn around...maybe our decision was affected from a distance????, later when i was thinking about it, i thought SH#T why didnt we continue into the gully. i have read accounts where even Dean had been somewhere and "felt" like he wanted to turn around.....does our hairy friend have that ability???

heyy everyonee

just signed up on this site... after having a massive talk about this stuff with mates over alot of drinks i started searching the net for interesting stuff like this.

i saw this message thort i shud sign up and post a reply.

i live in FNQ around the tully innisfail area and my parents house is on the side of a mountain. most weekends i wud walk through the creeks fishing and follow them up as far as i cud go. i hear these wood knocks all the timee but alot more frequent then in the video you hav here. sounds exactly like wood being chopped from a distance but the sound is coming from close.

i looked at thtat frog but it doesnt liv up here and it makes more a a bopping noise. but i dont think its anything yowie/lost tribe type related cause ive heard the noise at the trees rigt in front of me but cant c anything. must be some kind of animal. and ill keep telling myself that otherwise next time i go walking by myself ill be shtting lol

When you don't even think that you are thinking, they are reading that too. So think good thoughts about the Bigfoot/Yowie, and they will be nice to you.

but really for this to be yowie's that would mean there are like 50 yowie in one spot cause i hear this sound non stop most places i go and from all different directions.

If the yowie can slip between dimensions/worlds, which I believe they can; where is their home base and how do they travel.

Was reading a book years ago and there were some talk of a link between UFOs and BF; however I just cannot see a yowie hitching a ride in a UFO lol.

theres houses everywhere for sale around her. ur just not looking hard enough lol. its pretty good place to live. i never really thort it to be a hotspot for stuff like this but i was looking through bigfoot forums and a guy on there called rod lives here and seems to know of hundreds of stories in the area ranging from yowies to tasmanian tiger sighting. i tried to sign up to hav a chat with him but it wudnt let me for sum reason
