Hi everyone,

I'm originally from QLD, not far from Ormeau, and have been intrigued by the reports on the Ormeau yowie on the main site. I was just wondering, has there been any action up that way of late?

I currently live in Melbourne, but every time I go back to visit family in QLD the pace of residential development up around Ormeau never fails to surprise me. With all these newly built houses in the area, surely more sightings or reports have been made since 1999 (the last dated sighting on the main site)?

Hi Jim,

We have had no word about Ormeau for quite some time now. As you say, the area has changed a lot over the years. I speculate that this was a part of it's grumble. If I never run into that one again, it would be too soon. Last I heard, it was hanging about on the left ridge of Peachy Rd. That was a really nasty piece of work.

We have reports from the 80's regarding Upper Coomera Rd, which as you know is a direct link. The Rebels have a base there at the end on the right hand side and they also had an encounter (or should I say a farmer), with a 4ft that followed him on his tractor displaying no fear.

Not a huge fan of the one at Ormeau. It forced me into what I do now, which is a good thing, but I really don't want that to happen again. The aggression was far too much.

You know I`m not sure who I would prefer to meet in the dark scrub of Ormeau. A seriously aggressive Yowie or a group of Rebel bikies... either way I don`t think it would end pretty for yours truly!

Jokes aside if the Ormeau activity has finally dropped off then maybe the creature/s have finally moved on to the more remote and protected Hinterland area. Mount Tamborine and adjoining park lands area would be a good bet. Maybe that 2003 encounter was incentive enough for it/them to finally move on!

It amazes me how many encounters occur within the confides of (or nearby) significant residential developments. There must be something to this.... Curiousity of humans, greater food sources, territorial areas......all of the above???

I would never have dreamed of being stalked and then chased within that small corridor of trees between Vaughan Dv and Norfolk. But it happend and its all History now. I still believe that he was more dangerous than the one that dropped me last Jan'. I think it had worse intentions due to the vocal anger it displayed. Completely differing vibe between the two.

By all accounts the Ormeau yowie was an irascible individual - I suppose most are happy that he's probably moved on!

I've read all the reports about your January encounter. Intriguing to say the least.

Yes the Ormeau individual was one of a kind. Definitely not one that I would ever want to meet again quite frankly. It was hard enough even for the SAS boys to make it turn tail, however after it ran through a trip, it quickly changed its mind. Tim said it was one of the scariest things he had ever endured.

The Yowie that dropped me back in Jan', was very different. Very direct, but very different. It didn't put on a show like the Ormeau model. Just went straight to business with no vocals at all. Not even a grunt as it was running at me. Still unsure whether the smell was from it passing through there before me, smelling it while it was on the hill (which I doubt), or there was already another sitting in there somewhere when I arrived. The more you think about it, the more possibilties and thypothesis comes to mind. Any each way, I know one thing for sure - I won't be tenting it out there! Car or nothing.....

I must admit that I lean on the skeptical side when it comes to the Yowie, as most people are, I suppose. But I'm not skeptical to the extent that I think the whole phenomenon is entirely bollocks. All those reports, and your work of course, just have too much of a common thread running through them to dismiss the yowie out right. However, I would love to have my mind changed by an encounter of sorts! Perhaps not being bowled over by one, that's for sure.

I have friends in the Otways. They live in the area where the Colac report on the main site describes. I'm quite sure I know exactly where that encounter took place too. I've visited these friends many times, taking long walks up into the catchment areas of the Otway Ranges NP. It wouldn't surprise me if there was something undiscovered living up there. Every time I've been up since learning of your website I've been a bit more observant than I otherwise would have been. Alas, nothing out of the ordinary so far.

The area that the witness describes was logged about two years ago - wonder if the truckies or fellers had any encounters during their works there? Next time I'm in the Gellibrand pub I might broach the topic with some locals (softly-softly, of course).

i think that your approach is spot on, if you go into this stuff blindly believing, then you will read into every little thing as being significant, but a dose of skepticism will keep you well grounded. when im out in the scrub and see " stuff" i always attribute it to the obvious first ie: roo, dingo etc, then if it still doesn't add up, then i will think along the lines of perhaps a cryptid.....nothin wrong with a bit skeptic in you.

I wish I had more time to write, but Ormeau was an amazing place years ago before development.

Also had corroborating evidence from different parties on some events, not known until later.

As for OP Last time I went up that way houses everywhere now, lots of bush between Ceder Creek and Tamo though

Is it possible they get more territorial around breeding seasons ie other males Human or Yowie going into thier piece of turf?
