Hi all................I thaught that maybe I was going mad, but twice I have spotted what I believe to be a yowie..............1st was about 18 years ago when I lived in Coonamble NSW....if you know your geography right next to Pilliga, I will go into that a nother time, but recently I was driving home from Jacobs Well on Norwell rd and as I turned onto Jacobs Well/Pimpama rd I spotted something running across the bridge then bolting underneath it.....................now it was about 11pm at night, and in the middle of no-where, and alone..now I am a big guy with many years of martial arts training, but there was no way I was going to check it out....scared the c**p out of me.......has anyone else heard of anything around this area............if anyone is keen to have a bit of an expedition I will be keen to join in

Thats it..........I find it strange though, it is in the open..........................the bridge is the only way across the creek.................without getting wet, there are a couple of houses close by, maybe scavenging?

So mate I don't really understand, you saw it cross the bridge - how did you see it under it as well? Was it using under the bridge to cross the road?

As I turned off the road and on to the bridge something was running in front of me.................As my vehicle started to cross the bridge, it was on the other side my car got closer it ran down the left side of the bridge then I think under the bridge.............as I said before, scared the life out of me and I did nt stop to look.........................though if one was to get away there is a bit of open field then scrub, could of headed that way, I would be willing to show you..................in daylight( i like to see things coming, so I can run the other way.lol)

Hey the captain

Welcome to the forums, I’d love to hear about your possible sighting near the Pilliga when you’re up for it.

it would seem that there isnt much television in the Pilliga...our hairy friends must be breeding up in the area, or other reasons for increased sightings??

Hi Chewy........................as for the Coonamble sighting, I had just got my licence so It was about 19 years ago, my parents lived about 20ks out of town on the Walgett rd, It was about 8pm and I was driving to town to go to a party.

All was well, dodged a few roos then just as I got to the 6mile( a stock route/common ) something crossed my path, no yes I was breaking the law doin 110kmh, instead of the p plated 80, now I am a country boy and I know the difference between pigs, roo etc on the road, I have always been taught to hit the animal opposed to hitting the brakes and swerving especially at speed, but as far as I knew it was a person on the road( as it was standing up) I hit the brakes, swerved, the whole time i kept eyecontact with this thing and..........holy s#@t i realised what it was, now the car spun round, hit the table drain and came to a stop.............it looked at me then wandered off...................no I was crapping it 1 because there is some strange thing out here and 2 i nearly totalled dads car............................well the car was alright I manged to get it out of the ditch, I cleaned it at a mates place, I thaught I was home and hosed, but dad drove the car and found out as the tyres were flatspotted(didnt believe the yowie story, but thats life).

As for other people in the area spotting things, another mate was shooting in the area and thaught he saw something about 3 weeks later, actually tried shooting it, reckons he hit it..........but he was usually full of c**p, but 1 must give him the benefit of the doubt as I never told him my story.

Well they are my 2 stories, I have another mate who grew up at Gwabegar( in the Pilliga), he has many stories from old bushies in the area, I have sent him a link, hopefully he will join...................he still lives there........

Thanks Captain

Anything to do with the Pilliga and the surrounding area fascinates me as that’s close to where I had my own personal sighting. So I know the area has high level of strangeness,

Anyway good to hear some more stories from the Pilliga, hopefully your other mate will sign up and tell a few.

has anyone else heard of anything around this area
Captain there has been many encounters in nearby Ormeau in previous years (check the QLD sightings page and previous threads). I lived in Beenleigh area for 8 years and spent a lot of time in the Jacobs Well/Ormeau area. As far as I know the activity in these spots has dropped off a bit in recent times (although Dean and others may be aware of more up to date occurrences?).

Would be interested if you could provide a few more details in regards to what you actually saw (Eg. Estimations on height, dimensions, colour, distance away etc).

Maybe the Ormeau Yowie has returned to visit old stomping grounds?????

hi..................as to some extra data about what I saw at Jacobs Well.

It was about 18 months ago, now I would have let this just be a part of my memories...until I found you guys and realised"I am not alone"...............thanks for letting me part of your group.

Height............about 6.5-7ft

Colour.........well like many people I am colorblind, but dark realatively short fur.

I had seen it from about 20 ft in front of me.

Now here is one for you all, as you head towards Pimpama.....I used to ride a harley and ride here daily and used to pick up a smell, I went for a drive today and stopped at the spot where I used to smell an offensive smell, well it is still there............I never made much of this until reading more posts in your forum, so travel about 3-4km from the bridge(towards pimpama), on the right you see a creek and a rickety old bridge.........it reeks in this area.....dont know if it means anything. But the place creeps me out.

Hey Captain

I would have been in the same boat as you letting my sighting just become a part of my memories, if it had not been the fact I stumbled upon this site many years ago, my guess is, I would have forgotten it all and put it at the back of my mind. I forgot about my experience for many years it was only because of this site that I remembered what I had seen and my memory came flashing back.

Its certainly strange how the human mind works. What it forgets and remembers is meant to be (thumb up)

Hey Captain,

Being a semi-regular driver in the Jacobs Well/Woongoolba area (thanks to need for sugarcane tops for mulch for my gardens), I can relate to your freaking out at seeing what you did.

Have googled some actual pics of the bridge and approach, and as you can see, the creek there is quite wide just at the bridge. There is also a lot of natural cover along the watercourse, but cripes, there is nowhere else to hide - it's just dead flat all around, and under cultivation for soybeans or cane mostly.

There is another little bridge that I thought you were talking about, and it's brand new, even has a boat ramp adjacent to it, and for some reason, every time I cruise down there, the place gives me the creeps. It's quite popular with fishermen, and there are almost always vehicles parked there, as they put their little tinnies in just there and head out into the estuary. I've also seen quite a few folks fishing from it.

Not far up the road from here is a pretty sizeable chicken farm - wonder if they have had any 'visitors' looking for a chicken dinner?

Kind regards,
Shazzoir

PS. Don't forget: there have been hairy man sightings (big and small) on the Islands east of here in the past. The channels wouldn't be too hard to swim, and I guess going from island to island in search of food would suit a nomadic lifestyle. I will see if I can find the stories in the AYR archives.
