Ashley has an encounter with a rock throwing Yowie while on Expedition with us at Taree. He was more than flustered when he was radioing it in. I recorded when I reached him several minutes later.

Hmm, would the rock throwing be to distract or to warn off or both, Dean? I have heard of the throwing of stones, sticks, etc to get attention, but it sounds as if this one has pretty good aim, and was probably saying "OK, you've seen enough, now move on!"

Thats awsome! where abouts in Taree was the sighting? As I live here I'd love to check out the area.

Cheers Dan

That's a shame, Mike. From listening to this report, what made it so real was that Geoff was very matter-of-fact about the sightings, not grandstanding or anything, just stating what he had seen. NO duplicity at all. He sounded like a bit of a character, nice bloke.

Kind regards,
Shazz

Ash was staying close to Base, while Steve B. and Trevor went to the bottom of the hill and trekked the creek to the right. I went to the left.

I was very careful while navigating the creek bed, as I didn't want to leave any of my own prints and also didn't want to get my boots wet because I was unsure how far I was going to travel.

I receive a patch from Ash asking if we were in his location and asked if anyone had thrown a rock. I replied no. Ashley said that a rock landed directly at his feet. I said that he must have kicked it and didn't realise, but he still insisted it landed. I told him not to worry about it, as it was more than likely nothing.

Soon after I received a more desperate call saying that another rock landed and he was now more concerned and suggested that we head back and check it out with him. I said no, don't worry about it, probably nothing.

I then receive a third patch, this time it was far more serious and we moved! I ran all the way through the water along the creek bed and to the track leading up the hill where Ashley was. I was out of breath by then, as you could hear on the tape.

He had really panicked when the third rock came, then the Roo appearing on one side of the Lantana and "it" on the other side.

Ashley's view of the situation was that from how it looked, he had ventured into the bush while the Yowie was hunting the Kangaroo. As Ash came closer, it launched at him to warn him off - "Go Away". He kept going and another one came. Then the another....

By then, Ashley scared the Roo away and the Yowie lost his target. With that it marched back up into the mountain.

When Ashley's 3rd call came through, he was frantic, as by then he had already had his visual.
