THE PROPOSAL

by AL Pitman
I am proposing that this weekend coming , all who are physically capable and have time to spare , head out to your local hot spot and conduct some field research .
Report back here on Monday evening 08.02.10 and then let us relish the results , no matter how meagre the equipment you own , even old school 35mm film which still takes beautiful photos by the way . May be a widespread concerted effort will produce the extrordinary results that we all desire , nothing ventured nothing gained .

Oh, Al, "physically capable" is the key word! Due to some disabilities in my old age, I can no longer do any field research. Until a few years ago, I would go to Oklahoma to go out in the field with a couple of top tracker friends and saw tons of footprints and tree structures. I would also go out in the woods and on the river in southeast Texas, where I lived, and got some awesome results of footprints and tree structures. I heard those false "owl calls" at night from my yard, coming from the woods frequently, and even in the morning.
Once I went out and interviewed a lady with the colorful name of Princella, who had moved to the property of a deceased friend of mine who had had a sighting, but had refused to discuss it. Princella was very suspicious of me at first and thought I was insane; she had never even heard of Bigfoot. Finally she relaxed, but stated, "I ain't going to look for no hoo-doo in them woods!" Later she asked a mutual friend, "Did that crazy woman ever find her animal?"
Now, alas, I'm in the big city and can only be an "armchair researcher", except that I was never a researcher, just a Bigfoot junkie. I think it's a wonderful idea you have, Al, that all who can might go out and see what yall can find, be it signs of Bigfoot or Yowie. Who knows? Somebody could even have a sighting....or a least a real good time.

Great idea Al, however most people will need a little time to prepare.
Lets organise it for the end of the Month.
Is there anyone else who is open to heading out around that time? Just one night will suffice. WE can all load our pics and stories under the one thread.

Interesting idea, Al. An assault on a number of hotspots at the same time. Not sure if that's been done before. All participants would need to be vague about location details and refrain from any specifics.
I second what Dean says and it's not a matter of just willy nilly heading down to your local hotspot for a few hours of yowie time. Unless of course you live in a street renowned for Yowie activity, hey Mike?
Hotspots are usually in bushland and offtimes secluded. For example, in Qld at the moment, snakes appear to be on the move, especially brown snakes. The very long and thick tail of an adult brown snake disappeared underneath my house during the week, much to my concern, and then the following evening a baby brown snake decided to assume the striking position behind my work car as I've unlocked the boot!
Prior preparation and planning cannot be over-emphasised, and is essential. If a number of people were to throw their hands up, it could be done.

MIke and SAB are out on an excellent investigation together as we speak.
Correct Steve, we should see how many are willing to commit to a night or two in the coming Weeks. Most of us have obligations and commitments, therefore prior planning would be an advantage for all.
Enjoy your positivity Al.

Sorry guys I have been away attending to my other life that being work comittments , so my excuse for the late reply but yes the end of the month would be great , as the
[ THREADER HEADER ] suggested it was only a proposal and as such is open to adjustments . I think even those that are not in great health or somewhat physically restricted could act in some type of cordination capascity , perhaps by correlating and diarising the reports / replys to see if some type of genisis emerges from the collective expeditions .
I am still personally heading to a little spot close to home this weekend as we have good rain on the mid north coast nsw so hopefully it makes finding prints a liitle easier , on the down side the subject would probably become even smellier , you know the wet dog effect but then again this might allert of their nearby pesence . Has anyone used cling wrap or plastic to cover castings to protect them from rain as they dry . ?

End of the month sounds good.
If anyone can give me any info into any recent-ish sightings around the Carbrook/Logan area i'll head that way.
If not i'll stay closer to home and try and spot that elusive Junjadee people have been talking about. A few people have seen it the past few weeks. One person saw something about 1m tall run across the road, they said it looked like small hairy child. Another person I spoke to said they saw some eye-shine in a swampy area, paper bark trees as far as they eye can see from the road. I asked if it could have been a possum, but they said to me it scared the hell out of them.. as in there was this feeling they got of "get out of here now" kind of thing.

RAIN , RAIN , GO AWAY , ah well you know the rest
Dean the end of the month is turning out to be a master stroke as the spot that I had intended to cover over the weekend just passed , was to say the least washed out all the vehicle tracks in were impassable so now I am throthing at the bit can't wait till months end now .
Sounds like you have got a nice little hot spot to attend , good luck I hpoe it proves fruitful if the already presented thread by Mike & Sab is anything to go by you should have an interesting time , just take care .

I think everyone should get a pair of
http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/security/c3eb/ these. Spycam Video/MP3/Camera Sunglasses.
Capable of capturing excellent quality video and audio, these Spycam Video Sunglasses can be comfortably worn nearly anywhere to help you get the footage. Video is stored in AVI format on a built-in 8GBs of memory. These glasses also feature easy-to-use controls which are located on the sunglasses frame. The built-in battery is rechargeable via USB connection and has a battery operating life of about 3-4 hours. The 8GBs of memory can hold about 4 hours of video.
Instead of going "c**p, camera go faster!" just hit the remote in your hand and *bam*.

perhaps if we can gather enough people, we could conduct a sweep of a hotspot.
of course it would only work if the target area is reasonably narrow (bordered by pastoral land etc).
i'm just shooting ideas out here, but if it works for pilgrim indians trying to flush out a tiger... then why not here?

Hey Scuba
there are some historical articles where they pursued Yowies on horse back but even then the creature was able to effect an escape [ stiil haven't figgured out the quote thing as yet ] may be the good DR has merrit in his thinking that a more genuinely friendly approach would be best , ya don't wanna be &^%$#@ing any thing off that could be as large as the reports suggest , especially if you intend on spending a night in its domain .

Way I usually act when doing these things just go in pretending theres nothing there.. until there is and its game on. I don't go all aggressive or anything.. just sit around & wait. If i'm with people and the mood strikes us and we've gathered up our manhood to move, we'll go on the chase for a bit.. but not too extreme.

Maybe an annual general meeting / camp in a pre determined central location it would be good to share ideas at face value , pehaps even some tech gear supply companies could set up and sell cameras , sound equipment ect . It would be cool to able to meet all you guys at least ..

Great idea Al. I am definitely keen. I guess it`ll be upon the individuals themselves to designate an area and report back! Good hunting all!

Well, as for The Proposal:
Where are people located at, what kit do you have, who's in/who's not?

I think Dean wants to start a new thread to cordinate it all as for equipment I suppose what you can afford and carry at the time is best .

Where are people located at
Well if everyone who has indicated that they are keen could put their home location on their status (or even general wider area if they don`t feel comfortable giving up their home town eg. Far North Coast NSW - Central West NSW - SE QLD etc etc) then people nearby each other could link up. Just a thought.
I don`t think its a good idea to actually state where you are going to go on the public forums as you just open yourself up to possible hoaxes and/or troublemakers who have had a deprived childhood (or possibly have been accidentally dropped on their heads as babies) and would find enjoyment from harassing innocent yet courageous yowie hunters!

Well, I just changed/fixed my location so people who are in the same area can get in contact with me via PM if they're keen for some field research.

maybe i didn't word it correctly.
it is possible to conduct a sector search/sweep quietly with minimal impact to the area.
camera traps could be placed in forward possitions to try to catch anything moving out of the area.
if conducted properly, this could be a quicker way of finding any sign within the area.
still just throwing ideas out there...

Hi Scuba welcome to the forums
Yer I like your proactive thoughts, however to organise something along them lines may take a lot of time and effort. It also needs to be said that these beings are highly, highly elusive and masters of their environment. I have come to realise that if one is lucky enough to have an encounter with these things than on the majority of occasions it will be on their terms. I personally don`t think a sweep through a bushland area is going to catch them napping so to speak! However, as you mentioned, a sweep through a grid area may be a good way to look for evidence (eg. prints, tree markings, tree breaks, stacks etc etc). That way a wider area can be covered. Sometimes a more passive approach can bring better results in terms of actual encounters - such as sitting tight and conducting surveillance on an area of known activity! One needs to be careful walking through the bush as getting lost or obtaining injuries can occur quite easy. Taking the necessary safety precautions and preparation is essential for anyone seriously considering going into the scrub.

Hey SAB
RE: the annual meeting idea , what about Coonabarabran ? it is centrally located to the eastern states and has a rich history of activity , it could be good for the local economy to boot , just a passing thought at this stage but would be good to see it come to fruition .

I do not have a FWD to go bush (unless I take out Powerball) but do have a decent size tent to share.
Have been to old Coonabarabran for a school camp many moons ago. So I am keen as well.

It would probably be best to concentrate on areas where contemporary activity is being reported. The Blue Mountains anywhere from Springbrook to Katoomba is a gold mine, and for those some hours south in NSW, good as gold Mt. Kembla is there for the picking also!

Hey Guys just making sure we are all on the same page , THE PROPOSAL has now become an end of Febuary trip to be conducted by as many able bodys as possible in your own prefered area and as Dean suggested all reports to go on a common thread on the following Monday .
The Coona thing yowie88 is just a little idea i was chucking around , I just think it would be Kool to all get together for a meeting once a year , with the usual things that events like this have such as work shops , talks by respected authorities on all things crypto and perhaps even a charity run BBQ , just a little idea that is all .
