The sighting over the years of Large Black Cats and possible Thylacine is what attracted me to this sight many years ago.
I have had several experiences with Large Black Cats.
The first was in 1992 approx 50 km west of Esperance, we were fishing on a remote beach. A group of fellow fishers were approx 2kms further West of us. In the morning the other group packed up and passed us. Just after they left my mate pointed out a large black object moving around on the beach where the other group had been. Through Binos we watched what appeared to us to be a large cat searching for leftover scraps. We drove down to investigate and the creature ran off into the dunes behind. On arrival to the area there were prints approx the size of a clenched fist leading off to the dunes.
My second experience was ona chicken farm near Pinjarra. My neighbour at the time used to shoot foxes for a few extra dollars. On this night I went along. We inspected the fenceline to the chicken sheds and blocked all entry points except one. This is where the rifles were sighted. During the evening 5 foxes came to their demise. About midnight we were getting ready to go when there was a commotion in the shed. suddenly a black shape squeezed out of the tin siding with a chicken in its mouth. It soon became apparent it was alarge cat. We put the spottie on it as it scaled the fence. It was heavy build and approx 3-4ft long. I said shoot it! shoot it! but my offsider was just gobsmacked and stood next to me staring. The sighting was only a few seconds and it disappeared.
My next tale is of 2 possibel Thylacine sightings both in the same vicinity between Augusta and Margaret River WA. We had been hiking in amongst the Karri Forest collecting native seeds for a consrvation project in about 1983. When we got back to camp the two ladies who stayed behind were very excited. They claimed that after we had left a strange creature walked into the clearing and appeared to be awakening. They said when it yawned they knew it was a Tasmanian Tiger due to the jaw spread. The creature just stared at them and wandered off into the bush.
The second tale involves my now wife. We were camping in the same area. I had gone ahead with the dogs towards the beach. My wife was coming up behind after the call of nature. She says that as we went around the bend and out of view an animal appeared from the bush and stared inquisitively after us. She said it was striped, about the size of a medium dog. But what made her know it was not adog was its funny shape and it sort of hopped into the other sdide of the track like a roo. This was approx 20 years ago. I had not told her of the previous sighting in the same area and she is still convinced of what she saw.

I dont mean any disrespect mate but are you sure they just wernt wild dogs you saw instead of TASSIE TIGERS after all WA is a far cry from TAS

Mat, if my memory is correct (my brain does get scrambled sometimes) there has been thylacine remains found on the nullabor. One in particular was in such a good state of preservation it was initially thought to be recent, but it turned out to be ancient. The good state of preservation was due to the hot dry climate and sheltered area it was found in.
Enough reason to think "just maybe"

Geez Shaz, I thought I'd trolled around the web sussing out all the crypto stuff, but I hadn't seen that angelfire addressed site. Just had a quick look at it. Guess what I'll be wasting some time reading through today.
Heres a thylacine story I bet noone out theres heard before. My ex mother-in-law (now deceased) went to school with the daughter of one of the keepers at Beaumauris Zoo and she always said that her friend told her the last tiger didn't die like the story goes, but was in poor health and one of the keepers shot it. Fact or not? I don't know.

Everybody knows tthat Thylacines existed from one end of Oz to the other, we have aboriginal rock art depicting thylacines up here in Arhnem land, the Barkly tablelands and the Kimberely, whos to say they do not exists in remote parts of WA, it is a pretty brave statement to say they cannot possibly still remain alive in these parts

As Topender said, it'd be a bold thing to suggest that they couldn't still be here. We overestimate our knowledge of the Australian wilderness all the time (which is what this site is predicated on, I suppose).

I've got no doubt that there are all sorts of things potentially wandering around in areas where hardly anyone ever ventures. 21st Century society assumes more often than it actually investigates; to our own detriment.

I'm glad you liked it. It certainly seems to carry a little more weight when it's a government paper.

Lived in the sw of wa for 47 years and was always fascinated by the thylacine . Personally have never seen one . Hard to believe that they are still sighted in the area but I do know people who have .
In the 1930s they were quiet common around the busselton area . They were still around in some numbers in the 1980s . Sightings are rare nowadays.
Check out the pic on the net of Kevin Cameron's thylacine . This was in busselton in the 1980 s . It may be dead but it is still a real thylacine .
In the 1990 s I saw on numerous occasions a black leopard ??? Near Augusta . Once at 3 pm in the middle of a gravel road only meters away from me . I estimated its size as a conservative 60 kg at the time. I now have a dog that weighs 50 kg and looking back I'm guessing that cat would have been closer to 100 kg . I saw it at the same place on a semi regular basis for about 5 years .
There were other accounts in around the district at the same time. A mates grandfather even shot it with a shotgun . It leapt away .
In the last 20 odd years the sightings have diminished to nill .

Only last year though some shooters saw a large black cat in there scope . We're hesitant / shocked to shoot it . Finally at long range they fired and hit it . When they went to inspect it had gone . Both were a bit confused . A black cat in the Aussie bush that survives a hit from a high power rifle.

I saw a large black cat in Paulls Valley here in Perth last year. It was at an old settlement at the end of a track off Fern road, which is off Mundaring Weir Road. At the end of the track there is an awesome view of the valley and I was standing there chatting to my brother looking over his shoulder toward the bush. He was going on about some issue he was having with something or someone, when I notice a large dog sized black cat moving from a clearing into the tree line.
Was totally unexpected and only lasted about 3 seconds. Was definitely a cat not a dog because of the cat like way it moved..and looked like a cat. I have heard of large black cats spotted in the area but never really looked into it all. I have faint memories of when I was a kid visiting our neighbours family in the hills and remember the parents where concerned about a large cat that killed the chickens.

I ran into a guy in Nannup who has been studying the Thylacine in WA and has all the history, I'll try to catch up with him at some point. I found my avatar on a search one day not 100% sure who made it but I've seen a few places

My brother was living in Nannup not long ago and heard about all the Thylacine sightings they've had there.

Yeah cool, I got the image the same way off of google. Love to know where it comes from if anyone knows?

Nice fingers crossed they get something for there efforts it would go along way for cryptozoology in Australia

About 3 years ago I done an east coast tour with a few bands so it was between Melbourne and Brisbane. Anyways on our way back from Melbourne it was my turn to drive the tour bus and a bit out from Melbourne heading north I saw a big black cat dead on the side of the road! I wanted to stop and go have a look but with a trailer on the bus etc just stayed safe and kept driving. Considering it was on the freeway. When the tour was done I google black cats around Melbourne and there have been numerous sightings in that very area! Just outside of Melbourne heading north. Felt good to know that it wasn’t just me and that it was pretty specific on the area. I had also heard about black cats being in Australia before I saw that too so I was already fairly convinced that I saw it. Spewing I didn’t pull over though I would have tried to keep it and skin it. Or even just have a full body mount that would be awesome! Ah well maybe next time...
