Save the trees, save the environment for Yowies?

Unread post by Shazzoir »

Looks like the Government is planning on privatising forestry harvesting, meaning land used for forestry may be able to be sold for residential and other purposes. I know we have a number of Yowie sightings and reports from the plantation areas between Caboolture and the Sunshine Coast. Pine plantations don't really provide much for any animals in the way of shelter, food etc, but they do serve as green corridors that our hairy friends may use.

If you feel like signing an e-petition, here's the link and info about the proposed change:

Well, I would have signed it, but found they only accept Australians, and only current or former Queensland residents at that, oh well.

Interesting to me that I had never heard the term "plantations" in terms of managed forest land, but I checked Google and it's an American term too. When I think of "plantation", the word only summons up a large cotton farm in the American Deep South back in the 19th century. (taz) I learn something new here every day..... (thumb)
