That’s entirely up to you Fisho although I would not recommend divulging exact co-ordinates on the forum just a general area would be sufficient, what part of NSW are you talking? I for one would love to hear about your possible activity.

Thanx Chewy, Activity occured on the central coast nsw.
About 2 weeks ago i went into the bush to nick some car parts off a burnt out ute, i was with my girlfriend and it was around 9pm, it was a very still night and i was making some racket getting stuff off the ute, we both heard a noise that i can only describe as a young guy yelling out mimiking a bird - almost like a galah, this went on for about 10 seconds and was loud enough to create an echo, sounded maybe 80 - 100metres away. After that we then heard a very very low voiced slow grunt - almost like a humm, asif grunting through the nostrils instead of an open mouth. Instantly i felt 1. Scared and 2. Unwelcome, packed up quickly and left without getting what i was after off the ute.

So after most of my mates didnt belive me, and the missus a bit skeptical, i decided to go there on saturday night 1st May with a mate and our g/f's in my patrol. We arrived at the same spot at around 9pm and hopped out, there was a slight breeze and lots of fog. Within seconds of hopping out of the car me and my girlfriend heard a short deep grunt sounded 60-80 metres away maybe closer but in a different direction to our first experience. We looked at each other and both said "did you hear that" then my mate thinks its funny to throw a small rock over my bonnet ( we are all standing just outside the car, my mate in the front passenger the girls in the back passengers as if everyone had hopped out and just stood next to each door) in my direction which scared the c**p out of me and made the others giggle, i didnt have a torch with me as i knew it was 2 nights after the full moon and it was a spare of the moment trip.
My mates humour was short lived as he tells me he can hear something running around 50 metres away behind the Patrol, my eyes then catch something which im not sure if it was a tree swaying in the breeze or not but looked like a massive creature (sihlouette due to full moon) very wide and approx 60 metres away up hill of us, i then turn back around and am looking downhill, im then greeted with another rock which i hear hitting the long grass and then hitting the hard ground sounded slightly smaller than a golfball in size, at this point i had a go at my mate calling him every bad name i could think of and yelling at him "why would you do it again" rar rar ra. He is surprised at what im saying and tells me he swears on his life he didnt throw the second rock which landed approx 15 ft or less from me. By this stage we had been at the spot for about 5 minutes if that. After i see my mates genuine announcment that he didnt throw a second rock i said stuff this lets go, every hair on my body was standing on end and i was hoping i could reverse up this slight incline without engaging my hubs (4wd). I was out of there so quick, my face was so hot from the fear/addreniline. I have never felt like that ever

I had just pegged it for about 2 km and i start to slow down to a more safe speed and we are talking about what has just happened, at this point we are nearing a main road only 800m or so from houses when my mate squeels like a girl ( he is a big guy 120 kg) and starts swearing and asking me "did you see that? tell me you saw that" i said no and asked him what he had seen and he explains he saw a large creature just metres off the track jump onto a fairly large trunked eucalyptus tree and do three large bounds up the tree. I could hear fright in my mates voice. We pulled over once we hit tar road and my mate said he felt ill from seeing whatever it was he saw. He hopped out and i hopped out to see if he was ok - thought he was going to be sick.

The whole situation left me feeling very un easy and yeah im still shaken up from it.
Dont know what to do about it really except share it with you guys, dont know if i could venture there again no matter how many people are with me, the depth of the grunt i can only describe as lower than any animal i can think of and carries very well- very powerfull.
Im not sure of any animal that can "lob" a rock except a human or something with arms.


Its definetely an eye opening experience and i hope it doesnt rattle me for too long, as i am a keen 4wdriver and beach fisho (sometimes remote).

If anyone wants more details as to the exact location send me a p.m.
If anyone has any questions which might jog something i have forgotten feel free.

chewy i only just realised your location is the central coast, this will obviously be of some interest to you. Curious to know if there are any other experiences on the coast both from yourself or others.

Hi there Fisho

Yes any Yowie sighting in Australia is an interest but especially the Central Coast as that’s where I’m based.

In regards to other experiences on the coast both from myself or others, I have had no definite encounter here, I do know some stories of others either having had an encounter or finding possible evidence though. Usually it’s pretty quiet on the central coast I don’t hear of that many encounters.

The Watagans NP has a history of sightings and Brisbane waters NP has a history of possible evidence fondly enough Brisbane waters NP also produces the Gosford Glyphs.

I am glad you said your encounter was possible and not definite. The rock throwing is a trait of Yowie, the stalking and inquisitive grunts also but I am a little unsure about your mate’s recount of seeing something bound up a tree in three large steps.

Can you be a bit more specific on where about’s on the Central Coast it was, send me a PM if you wish to delvuldge the exact co-ordinates.

Well Sunday afternoon I met up with Mike Williams before we headed up to Fisho’s location where he and his mates had their possible encounter. After getting to know Mike for a bit talking about Yowies, cameras and so forth, Fisho and his old man arrived at a meeting point, while we waited for another person to arrive (name withheld as I’m not sure he wants to be known).

After all of us had arrived we all jumped in our respected vehicles and headed up to the location. Once arrived Fisho run us through the circumstances surrounding his possible encounter. What was heard, what direction the sounds came from, where the rock fell etc.

As we got there before night fall we decided to stay there for a while to get an idea of the place at night and have the possibility of an encounter ourselves.

Most of the afternoon was spent just scouting out the area, chit chatting and getting to know one another. Nothing much happened while we were there other than myself hearing a few Howls in the distance which were most probably dogs.

Fisho, his old man, and myself stayed to about 7:30pm or just after while Mike and (person withheld) stayed back longer.

All where great people to get to know and the area could be worth further investigation

Leaps and bounds up a tree? I know in situations like those, where you're scared, etc.. your mind does tend to play tricks on you sometimes.

Could it have been a Koala? Or a possum? I know it may seem like i'm taking the piss.. but I've heard grunts/snorts that at first I couldn't explain until I had the balls to throw my torchlight in the general direction to only find it was a koala or something being angsty. Admittedly that was back when I didn't know.. well, one thing from another; the guys at AYR (well, reading this board, etc) have helped me "honed" my instincts to a degree now where i can tell straight away what it is. (well, 99% of the time - theres usually the occasional false alarm)

As for the tree bounding.. I know our hairy friend tends to use trees to propel itself through the scrub, etc.. kind of like pushing off markers to gain acceleration, etc. But as to climbing up trees themselves; the only evidence I've ever read of that is the Almas in Russia/Central Asia; the local "lore" is that they sit in trees waiting for unsuspecting victims or whatever you'd want to call them come near, jump down, scare the c**p out of them and run away. But, on that, the Almas is about 6"ft at most. More closer to a Neanderthal-looking type creature than anything else.

Funny thing was my mate wasnt scared before he saw this thing, me on the otherhand was still packing darkies from the rock that landed near me.
My mate described it to be about 6 feet tall and the same colour as his dog, which i can tell you is similar in colour to a dark dingo (browny red). The tree this thing jumped up is around half a metre in diameter and on a slight lean - im not ruling it out as a yowie, infact if these creatures are as strong as they are made out to be, i dont see why they couldnt charge up a big enough tree like it was nothing at all.

Although when i showed this place to the ayr guys we didnt have any action (there were 5 guys + 2 cars)
I have been back since. Trust me - i have made up my own mind, and it wasnt hard to do.

I do seem to remember a couple of accounts of yowies climbing trees, a report from Bathurst springs to mind.
But fear does do funny things to your perception of what is happening at the time.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, and now you've said the tree itself was on a slight lean.. now i'm starting to picture it. Have you gone back since to check out the tree & any sign of claw/fingernail marks?

next time im up there i will check it out.
