DANGERS OF YOWIE HOAXING

I`ve come across an interesting article recently in the Manning River Times which details a near fatal attempt at pulling off a Yowie hoax. This is an interesting little sidenote in the history of the phenomenon in Australia.

http://www.manningrivertimes.com.au/new ... 11986.aspx

There have been previous incidents involving hoaxes in Australia which are detailed in The Yowie pg. 167 - in particular one incident in 1959 when the perpetrator was nearly run over!

Nice spotting ...if only another hoaxer had been fired at..it might have ended their media "careers" at the start.. (happy)

That's a great article! The Yowie phenomenon certainly lends itself to hoaxing. Usually, the "hoaxing" is done in the spirit of good fun and revealed as such later.

If I ever meet a yowie hoaxer, I will buy the larikan a beer! Yowie hoaxers are great in my book and I'd even buy the Georgia boys a beer!

I'd never think of shooting at a yowie...

But i wouldn't think twice about shooting a hoaxer (2guns)

Believe that!

The biggest hoaxer doing the rounds these days is this nightwanker guy who spams all the boards accusing everyone of being frauds. This time hes gone after Tony claiming hes a fraud too.

According to nightwanker everyone is except himself! Narcissistic and delusional little man.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

Ha! Yes, he's a Rocket Scientist........!

In fact there's a group of about 4 or 5 that stick together apparently, who spam the boards calling everyone hoaxers and frauds. He's just one of them. They aren't researchers, just try hards. I think some of them have links with the sceptic society, so that speaks volumes.

Obviously when he tried to get a life, they were out of stock.

I wouldn`t worry much about this guy. The majority of people who follow Yowie research seriously are aware of him and pay little attention. It has become pretty clear to me that the person involved is in desperate need of some serious psychological counselling!

Howdy Pete I see you are a Kempseyian - me too (originally) - be interested to here if you are aware of any encounters (which are not already widely known) from the area. Cheers.

I must have made the big leagues - he's recently christened me a con-artist, a hoaxer, and a fraud on another board...

Forest Guy... *Hugs*..... AYR tissues have been deployed. Support group is being organised. Hold strong.... Your now in an elite group of, er, every Australian researcher, as he targets us all. Ok, well, perhaps not so special then. (We had to laugh when we saw he now refers to himself as a "Yowie Reseacrher", more than amusing, considering he has never done anything himself besides attack those of us that actually do?). ....

Tony seems to have been all out on his Youtube. I think he now has more than us! "rickrocket2010's Channel". Interesting uploads - he is certainly a Character, and does have strong conviction. Definitely well worth watching. It's great to see people out there doing their own research and being active. Refreshing...

We uploaded 3 more today. Part 3, in my view, was the most interesting.

Mike, nice find.

The three new stooges on the scene (Nightwalker, Marius and Oopus), as far as I was made aware, are connected with the sceptic society, therefore, can we expect any different.....

They ridicule the researchers and Historians, but that is to be expected I guess. They have their agenda and pre-determined angle, which is to dismiss research and findings, however our agenda is to research. I would much rather be proactive.

We don't pay attention to this minority of small time detractors that know little of passion, dedication or knowledge on the subject. Let alone, ever get out there and get their hands dirty, yet believe they have the right to put down those of us that do.

My point of view is quite simple - Research. Eye on the ball and not the Man.

They shouldn't make their entire aim to detract from those of us that have made the effort. Have heart, passion, spend the time, effort and resources and turn their energy to positives and actually research the subject. Why attack and dismiss those who do, and those who have been here a long time before them, based on no knowledge of their own other than their own selfish personal assumptions. Mostly stemmed from their connections with a sceptic society?

Glad we have a healthy thinking group here!

 Mike! Remind me never to get on your bad side! I would hate to find myself on your hit list!!! Great work (claps hands)

Well said DH! I actually consider these people cynics. A true sceptic actually looks at evidence objectively and then comes to a decision based on the evidence presented. This mob have already made their minds up - so they will only look for an answer which justify their belief systems! If they cannot find a rational or scientific explanation to debunk sightings than out of desperation they attack the character of the person and/or researcher involved. I applaud sceptics who are willing to look into a subject with an open mind and put in the research. However, I have no patience or tolerance for armchair cynics like NW!

On a brighter note I am planning on heading out with Tony in the near future. It`ll be good to finally catch up with him as we have been trying to organise an outing for quite some time now (even before he became famous on You Tube)! Looking forward to it.

You mean you're NOt a hoaxer, Forestguy??? (kidding!)

I've been christened many things on that board too! Liar, perpetuator of hoaxing, deluded, and deceiving the simple man. I even put up my own personal account which is almost identical to Tony's with the absence of a filming video camera, and the response was cricket noises.

Opus and Marius are doing the best they can and I'm happy to agree to disagree with them! That's respect. Nightworker though, thinks he can simply backpedal and retract all the dirt he has typed about actual people who have done actual research, if he ever needs to. He is the Anakin Skywalker of Yowie research who had so much to offer, but instead of looking to the blue sky, fell prey to the easy road and the Skywalker became the Nightwalker.

What these critics fail to comprehend, is for every yowie encounter reported by a researcher, the odds are anywhere between 1 in about 50 to every time the researcher may visit the same hotspot. The critics also mistakenly believe a true researcher would put his/her own selfish interests before the interests of the yowie. The other thing is the fallacy that you can read an account or watch a youtube clip, and discern whether a person is telling the truth. That's part of the reason yowie research involves face to face interviewing of people! Body language is always a liar's biggest downfall, and body language is something you don't get from an article or a youtube presentation! When you know where a person has lied, it's ridiculously easy to zero in on the lie and catch them out!

Armchair research is for antique shops, not increasing knowledge on the yowie.

Interesting blog, Mike!

Hi SAB8. I have lived in Kempsey a while and still have all my own teeth.

sceptic society ARE cynics, theres no group named the cynics society, naysayers society or raise your NO sign to everything society. sceptic society is made out of same minded people that call themselves a sceptic society because those other names don't sound right.

For some reason, I had assumed that the only such hoaxers were Bigfoot hoaxers in the USA. Why, I don't know. If hoaxers in either country would just use all the time, energy and ingenuity they use for hoaxing in actual research, they might possibly get somewhere. (no no)

Hoax \Hoax\, n. [Prob. contr. fr. hocus, in hocus-pocus.]
A deception for mockery or mischief; a deceptive trick or story; a practical joke. --Macaulay. [1913 Webster]
Source: The Collaborative International Dictionary of English v.0.48

The problem is Ella, not only are we dealing with misidentification ..we are also dealing with two classes of nutters.
The first class will hoax an encounter for fame and fun,
The second class will hoax some supposed "research" of theirs and claim they have proven or not proven something.
They will also make claims about academic qualifications which are false..and then they fail every form of logic and reasoning that is accepted as normal.
Anyone can sit on their arse and claim they have tested a claim..or prove their beliefs by rhetorical sleight of hand.
The desk bound, unemployed hoaxer called Nightwalker has never proven he has actually done one thing he claims.
Other than partly read one book..and making hundres of defamatory posts..
He has a monsterous ego where he truly believes that his opinion..is valid.
Follow my post signature and have a laugh..god knows others are at this moment...there is more coming..which more than slays the obsessive little coward..

Mike, your web page and blogs are really valuable. I really didn't know that Australians gave a toot about whether or not Yowie really exists one way or the other, and thought they had a much more relaxed attitude, just considering the Yowie part of the scenery, just an undocumented (thus far) form of wildlife. But I guess your society is not that much different from ours when it comes to accepting something that seems impossible to most people for various reasons. Of course, I'm absolutely certain we have a huge government cover-up here for fear of mass panic. I firmly believe, though, that the Yowie and the Bigfoot/Sasquatch are one and the same, with maybe some slight regional differences. (taz)
